Having just signed up for the exam last week, I remember seeing question(s) re criminal record during the registration process, but as I recall it was asking about felony. And if you answered yes there was an explanation block. It didn't just kick you out of the app....

A quick test would be to pick an exam and start registering to get to the questions, then cancel.

Of course, call ISC2 for the definitive answer.

Since the rules don't explicitly state that you are not allowed to take the exam if you have a criminal record (if in fact this is the case, I have not checked) why is your 'friend' :) trying so hard to prevent himself from taking it? As far as I'm aware it's not even a question on the application form.

To briefly mention an old subject; ISC2 seem much more concerned about how many years experience you have, rather than whether or not your are a convicted criminal :)

        A friend of mine (it's actually true in this case, believe it or not) has
        a question regarding qualifying to get his CISSP certification. He has a
        felony conviction for computer crimes. He'd like to get his CISSP, but
        the requirements are not clear. He's fully aware of the code of ethics,
        and has no problem with that going forward. The question has to do with
        past behavior. The code is written in present and future tense.
        
        So, assuming all the listed qualifications are met, will he have a problem
        obtaining his CISSP?
