What does a NEMP do to the aluminium layer of a CD ? Anyone who's ever
put a dish with metallic paint decoration in a microwave and seen the
sparks fly might not be too optimistic about that. To protect any media
against NEMP I think I'd go for storage with Farady shielding.
OTOH I'd guess that few civilian fallback scenarios are NEMP-resilient.
Infrastruture which was not specially shielded could be unuseable. Backups
are not much use when there's nowhere you can do a restore to. Also, not
much chance of doing a realistic dry run ...
If, however, we take 'optical media' to imply COM (computer output on
microfilm), then the infrastructure question is possibly not quite so
delicate, but aren't b/w film images composed of metallic silver? I wonder
what NEMP does to microfilm ...
