1. "EDITORS CORNER"
Everybody knows that domains cost $70, right?
It has been a fact that if you wanted to register a domain name you had to
pay $70 to Network Solutions and that covered you for 2 years. This fact has
been so ingrained as to become an "everybody knows" type of thing. This
"fact" no longer holds true. It is now possible to register domains for MUCH
less. In fact, Free Name Registry is registering domains for $10 for a year
until the end of August!!! This means you can register that name that you
have been thinking about getting and not have to worry about the large expense
and that fear that you may never use it. Free Name Registry will even put up
a free "Under Construction" web page until you do decide to use it. You can
get to us with the following link: http://www.freenameregistry.com

2. TECH TIPS:
Have you noticed that the longer you have your computer the slower it seems
to get? I know the computers today are so fast it's astounding (at least to
us techies), but there is a way to make sure your system doesn't lose
performance. When you use a computer you are constantly writing information
to the disk inside your computer. Now, your computer likes to put the data
nice and neatly together, but after time that gets harder and harder for it to
accomplish. This is due to the fact that the files get fragmented or broken
apart. The computer can put them back together but it takes time. Hence the
slower performance over time. You can use a defragmentation program to put
the files back together and make it much faster to access. In fact, a recent
study found that you can get an extra 2 years of life out of a disk by
regularly defragmenting them. I know of a couple of great defraggers out
there. One is Norton Speed Disk (my favorite) and the other is Diskeeper from
Executive Software. You can find these here: http://www.symantec.
com/sdnt/index.html (Norton Speed Disk for Windows NT) and http://www.
diskeeper.com (Diskeeper for Windows 9x, NT and 2000.

You've probably heard all the hype about MP3s and how you can download most
any music from the Internet. Well, the guys that make it super easy to find
exactly the music you are looking for can be found at http://www.napster.com.
This piece of software actively searches for the songs you want and then gives
you the choice of where to download them. If it's MP3s you want, Napster can
find them for you.

4. HINTS AND TIPS:
How can you be sure that the email you read is really coming from the person
you think it is? If it is digitally signed you can be pretty certain. A
digital certificate is an encrypted bit of data that accompanies an email or
file that completely distinguishes it as being from the sender, or at least
the sender's computer. There are laws being made that give a digital
signature legal standing equal to that of a traditional signature on pen and
paper. You can read more about that here: http://www.commwatch.com/digicert.
html. You can get your own personal digital certificate for free at
http://www.thawte.com. It's a good idea to get a personal digital certificate
to protect your email from being tampered with and it's the perfect price.

5. SHAMELESS PLUG:
FreeNameRegistry.com is offering a discount on registering domain names.
Until the end of August 2000 you can register a domain name at http://www.
freenameregistry.com for only $10! We are able to offer this price for a
limited time, if you don't register by the end of the month the price will go
back to $19, which is still much less than Network Solutions. Now is the time
to get that domain. What are you waiting for!?! :-)
