Personal information including Social Security numbers of about 450
current and former University of Rochester students was stolen by hackers
this week from a UR database.

According to the university, the information was taken from a non-academic
student database and copied illegally to an off-campus IP address. The
breach was discovered by school officials on Wednesday. An investigation
is continuing.

People whose information was accessed are being notified by the University
via e-mail and letter, according to a UR press release.
