    I know that the old Aironet 4800 ISA adapters won't take anything but an
    Aironet 4800. I tried putting a 340 in there and all I got were nasty
    errors from the driver.

    Not sure what this means for the PCI adapters -- I don't have one.

    There are tons of them out there. One I have is an "SCM swapbox" but I
    don't recall where I got it from. These are *far* more effective for
    testing purposes than using a PCI or ISA card, but in my experience the
    ISA card is much more efficient because it lacks several layers of
    drivers.
