Hello all,
I don't know if the fist post here should be a question, but actually
it seems there is no other newsgroup that aims to people using
wireless lan.... :-)
My problem looks like this:
1. Configuration:
Linux Debian kernel 2.2.17 with wireless lan suport compiled in.
Typical atx standalone Celeron 633,
PCI-to-PCMCIA board Ricoh RL5C475 rev 80
packages:
pcmcia-cs-3.1.24
linux-wlan-ng-0.1.7
2. My steps:
instaled and configured ( propertly ?? I hope... ) above
packages.
pcmcia cards ( PROXIM RangeLan DS 11Mbit and other type: ZOOM
Air 4100 )
installs themselves ok. module prism2_cs registers device wlan0.
( buzzer beeps in ok. mode )
after that there is a script autorunned like this: wlan-ng
start wlan0
3. Problem:
PC freezes. You cannot do anythning, even change the console....
When you remove pcmcia card from the slot - cardmgr unloads device
and everything goes back and looks ok.
No errors are reported in syslog.
4. After some hours I found line in wlan-ng :
... in section
#=====STA STARTUP=====
....
$WLANCTL $DEVICE dot11req_associate "listeninterval=0"
......
#=====PCMCIA NET DEVICE====
( WLANCTL=/sbin/wlanctl-ng $DEVICE=wlan0 )
removal ( commenting ) of this line makes the script to go back
after running
manually or automatically when you insert the card.
And resolves the problem of freezing the PC
But I cannot ifconfig the device.
ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.1 broadcast 192.168.0.255 netmask
255.255.255.0 up
tells me
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No medium found
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No medium found
5. ifconfig wlan0
shows good MAC addr.
6. There is no ( I think ) problem with Irq ( it takes 5 int ) or port (
it takes 0x100-0x13f )
and everything looks good in /proc/ioports or interrupts....
WHAT HAVE I MISSED?
OR WHAT IS WRONG??
Really waiting for help....
