Hello,

Does the SCM Microsystems SCL3711 contactless smart card reader work correctly
on Linux (i586 and X86_64)?

I wish to use a smart card reader and PAM (Pluggable Authentication Module) to
enable using a contactless smart card for logging into my computer. I need
the data in the contactless smart card (that enables logging in) to be
securely encrypted, to prevent unauthorized access or modification.

Despite having some familiarity with Linux, I am completely new to smart cards
and am having much difficulty learning what is necessary to achieve my goal
stated above.

On page 2 of the the SCL3711 data sheet:

SCM Microsystems claims the reader to be compatible with Linux; yet, gives no
clues or details what software makes that possible. I would like to verify
the validity of SCM Microsystem's compatibility claim before I waste any more
time or money on this problem. I have not yet purchased a SCM Microsystems
SCL3711 contactless smart card reader.

The SCM Microsystems SCL3711 Reference Manual (on page 17) says the NFC
controller is PN533 (NXP). I do not know if that information is useful, nor
what that means.

I sent an email to SCM Microsystems asking what Linux software enables using
the SCL3711, and have yet to receive a response.

I apologize if my question was previously addressed and I was not able to find
that answer.

results contained no direct references relating to compatability or lack of
compatability between Linux and the SCM Microsystem SCL3711 contactless smart
card reader. MetaCrawler.com is a metasearch engine that uses Google, Yahoo!
Search, Windows Live, and more.
