Which data structures? Can you be more explicit?

I would like to avoid using this trick and properly solve the problem.
What would be the proper way to solve the problem?
I do not have an ARM system so I can't try different solutions myself.
It looks like it is related to Debian bug #502947 "needs to set
"CFLAGS = -fno-strict-aliasing" on arm" [1]
