OpenSC goal is to provide a PKCS#11 lib.
sc_detect_card_presence() is not part of this PKCS#11 API.

It is not bad. Is it, maybe, overkill to use OpenSC just to detect if
a card is inserted or not.
You could use SCardGetStatusChange() instead.

And it may not be safe to use an (internal) libopensc function in a
multi-thread process.
