Hello Lon,

you will find a message complaining about incompatibility of log and data in the file knldiag, because you restored a data backup into a previously used (e.g. started) database with it's own log.

Reinstall the database with DBMGUI's Installation Wizard, choose "For Restore" as installation mode, do not start the database, restore with the help of DBMGUI as usual. Restart the database.

Best Regards,

Subject: Moving SAP DB from one server to another

Hello,

I tried out SAP DB on a lower end machine and we've decided to use it for our project. Now I'm trying to move the data base from my development server to an actual server it will run on.

I installed SAP DB 7.4 on the new server. Then I made a backup of the development server to a file. I copied the file from the development server to the new server and, through the Database Manager GUI, I restored that backup to the new server.

Now whenever I try to set the run level on the new server to Online I get an error -24895 with the description shutdown of database occurred [db_warn -f]; -71,connection broken.

Also the new server has a different size log and devspace but the new machine is much larger, so I don't think that would be a consideration.

I guess I didn't migrate correctly. Could you provide some hints as to what is going wrong?

Thank you,

Lon Palmer
