Not able to run any ddl & dml

I have created a Max db instance and issuing a create table command in the
command prompt from Database Manager. I am getting the following error messahe.

TEST> create table temp(name char(15));
ERROR
-24977 unknown command "create" [create table temp(name char(15));]

Could you please help me on this.
