As long as you stay on the same endianess it will work.
This works:
===========
Windows - Linux X86
Windows - Linux X86_64
Windows - Linux IA64
Windows - True64 (OSF 5.1)
Windows - Solaris x86 (and X86_64)
This does _NOT_ work:
=====================
Windows - Solaris SPARC
Windows - HP-UX (neither IA64 nor PA-RISC)
Windows - AIX
If you want to do one of the latter three you need to unload the database in
an indepentend format and reimport it in the target database.
