         * * * * * * * IDENTIFY CURRENT VERSION OF FIRMWARE * * * * * * *

              Prior to performing the firmware update, verify the current
              version of your firmware, using the following steps:

              Step 1. In a diagnostic window on the Test Station of your
                       system execute the following command:

                           diag_version

                       Identify the diagnostic revision. The output from the

                      above command should be one of the following:

                           Exemplar Diagnostics, Version 5.2
                           Exemplar Diagnostics, Version 5.2.2
                           Exemplar Diagnostics, Version 5.2.1

                       If not then do not proceed with this update.

       * * * * * * * * MOVING FIRMWARE TO CORRECT DIRECTORY * * * * * * *

       Step 1. Install the new PDC firmware in the correct directory
                by executing the following commands in any diagnostic
                window on the Test Station:

             mv -f /spp/firmware/spp.pdc /spp/firmware/spp.pdc_301
             mv CV220108.frm /spp/firmware/spp.pdc

       Step 2. Verify that the permissions and user/group ids are properly set
                on the file /spp/firmware/spp.pdc. The user and group must be
                set to sppuser. Change the user/group with the following commands:

             chown sppuser /spp/firmware/spp.pdc
             chgrp sppuser /spp/firmware/spp.pdc

                 The file permissions should be at least 0444. Change the
                 permission with the following command:

             chmod 0444 /spp/firmware/spp.pdc

                 The file permissions/ownership should look like this when you
                 are finished.

             -r--r--r-- 1 sppuser sppuser 225464 Jan 24 2000 spp.pdc

       Step 3. Verify that you are installing the correct version by SPP_PDC
                by executing the following command in any diagnostic
                window on the Test Station:

            what /spp/firmware/spp.pdc

                The output should read (the date/time may differ):

            /spp/firmware/spp.pdc:
                    SPP_PDC (64-bit) Release 3.0.2 (01/04/01 13:38:14)

         * * * * * * * * * * FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCEDURE * * * * * * * * * *

              Step 1. If your system is at the OS level then shutdown the
                       system via the /etc/shutdown command to the OBP prompt.
                       When the system completes the shutdown process, either
                       the "Command: " or "[] ok " prompt should be displayed
                       in the console window.

              Step 2. If the "Command: " prompt is displayed then execute the
                       following command to switch to the Forth interface:

                           fm

              Step 3. Execute the following commands at the OBP prompt:

                           fwcp 15.99.111.99:/spp/firmware/spp.pdc spp_pdc

              Step 4. Now reset the system by executing the command:

                           reset

                       and wait for the OBP prompt.

              Step 5. Now boot the system as normal. The Banner should show
