Symptoms:
PHSS_23021:
1. PANap19426 - New ATI Xpert98
New ATI Rage Pro Xpert98 PCI card renders but only
in half of the screen.
2. PANap19541 - vg-31 font/ATI memory conflict
When user types a 'M' character with the vg-31 font the
xterm hangs.
3. PANap19567 - Floppy Date
The floppy date is of by one hour when using the
Daylight Saving Time (DST).
4. PANap19583 - Audio CP problem
When starting the AudioCP utility the customers get the
following error message : "Old Audio Server (Aserver).
Aborting Audio Control Panel."
PHSS_22074:
1. PANap19362 - Audio compatibility between 9.11 Aserver
and DCE clients
Recent changes to the Audio library (migration from
NCK to DCE protocol) on HP-UX 11.00 have made the Audio
software incompatible with NetStation Software B.09.11.
2. PANap19440 - Date set to Jan 1 1970 when copying file
to floppy
Files copied to the floppy are timestamped Jan 1 1970.
3. PANap19472 - XDM and large UID
When login through XDM, UID is set to 60001 when larger
than 60000.
4. PANap19493 - CAP Lock problem under NS B.09.11
Holding down the Caps Lock key for about 1sec (one
slightly long keypress) will cause the LED to go out
at key release.
5. PANap19428 - How to specify telnet port to hpxt.hpterm
The hpxt.hpterm local client used in telnet mode does
not permit to specify the port to connect to.
6. PANap19424 - Lost the ability to alternate boot methods
With a FlashDIMM in place, the config screen can be
used to enter a fileserver to use as an alternate boot
source.
Upon installing the later Netstation patches such as
PL09 and PL10, this ability to alternate between booting
from the file server or the FlashDIMM as described above
has been lost.
When trying to boot off the fileserver with a programmed
FlashDIMM in place and the above patches installed,
the Entria hangs.
7. PANap19356 - Multiclicks missing in hpxt.mwm
Multi-click functionality is missing when running
application under hpxt.mwm on a NetStation II.
When catching 'XmNactivateCallback' events under
hpxt.mwm, the 'click_count' parameter is not incremented
for repetitive clicks, unless one of either "alt",
"shift" or "ctrl" key is pressed and held down whilst
repetitively clicking.
8. PANap19251 - XDMCP Indirect behavior changed
XDMCP Indirect is failing when only *ONE* XDMCP host is
configured. Instead of XDMCP Indirect, a chooser screen
is displayed.
Configuring *TWO* XDMCP hosts cures the problem.
9. PANap19246 - Tablet serial parameters being reset
Unability to change some serial settings when
"Input Drivers" is set to "TABLET /dev/serial1".
For instance, 'stop bits' could NOT be set to 2.
10. PANap19237 & PANap19549 - ICA corrupt display
Problem when scrolling windows displayed from Windows NT
using the Citrix ICA client.
To demonstrate the problem, login to an NT server, start
MS-Word, and load a document of several pages. Set the
display mode to "Normal", then use the down-arrow key
to scroll through the text. The fonts displayed in the
window will become corrupt, until the window is
completely redrawn (resized, minimized, etc).
11. PANap19172 - Audio pb when playing 16bits linear streams
When playing a stream in 16 bit linear mode
(AFFRawLin16), the only result is noise. The audio
server doesn't complain about this format. Playing
mu-law (AFFRawMuLaw) works.
12. PANap19552 - XDM pb when logging out
XDM does not update `wtmp' file correctly when user
logs out. `last' command shows that user is still
logged in even after he really logged out.
PHSS_20427:
1. PANap19429
Missing files in B.09.12 - 'archive' binaries
* Harmless in most cases, because NetStation default
is to use 'shared' versions of binaries.
* Flash File Manager complains when flashing FlashDIMM's
(in this case, it uses 'archive' versions of binaries).
For instance, when flashing
'ENVIZEX II 4 Mbyte Standard Package (B4485GA)'
you get the following error message in the status panel:
FLASH FILE MANAGER Version 1.0
All rights reserved
Processed config file $(NsRoot)/xthome//lib/ffm.pkg.
Files not found:
/bin/archive/C/mwm
/bin/archive/C/xterm
Format complete.
Starting package copy ...
Package copy complete.
Please note that the package flashing completes.
Once flashed, the output of a :
# remsh <XTerminal> ls /dev/ffs2/bin/archive/C
does NOT show the following :
/dev/ffs2/bin/archive/C/xterm 816876
/dev/ffs2/bin/archive/C/mwm 1725596
Hence, when booting off its FlashDIMM, the NetStation is
unable to run any of these applications (xterm & mwm).
2. PANap19439
Missing files in B.09.12 - japanese config. files
Japanese config. files of 'dtwmlite' are missing.
This only impacts japanese users of this local client.
Defect Description:
PHSS_23021:
1. PANap19426 - ATI Xpert 98
When switching on a Netstation with an ATI Rage Pro
Xpert98 PCI video card installed a corrupt selftest
pattern appears on the monitor.
2. PANap19541 - vg-31 font/ATI memory conflict
Modifications have been made in the mach64Ext driver for
the ATI Mach 64 Rage Pro video card.These modifications
caused a conflict with the 'M' character in the vg-31
font.
3. PANap19567 - Floppy Date
In the time structure the DST (Daylight Saving Time)
field was ignored.
4. PANap19583 - Audio CP
The problem is caused by the fact that the new variables
introduced by the Chennai lab in the Alib.h file are
ignored by the Aserver. This makes the Aserver return a
bad value at the initialization.
PHSS_22074:
1. PANap19362 - Audio compatibility between 9.11 Aserver
and DCE clients
Enhanced the Aserver to accept incoming DCE requests.
2. PANap19440 - Date set to Jan 1 1970 when copying file
to floppy
Each every date is considered by mktime() as prior
to 1901 !
3. PANap19472 - XDM and large UID
Before HP-UX 10.20, user ID were limited to 60000.
Old applications have to be recompiled to be able to
use UID greater than 60000.
4. PANap19493 - CAP Lock problem under NS B.09.11
The state machine driving the toggle keys got broken
when ported.
5. PANap19428 - How to specify telnet port to hpxt.hpterm
Enabled this ability in the telnet driver, as well as
the command line parsing in the hpterm.
6. PANap19424 - Lost the ability to alternate boot methods
Deadlock in OpenBroker.
7. PANap19356 - Multiclicks missing in hpxt.mwm
hpxt.mwm grabs to much events, thus preventing their
processing by the client application.
8. PANap19251 - XDMCP Indirect behavior changed
Enhanced 'XDMCP Indirect' behavior.
9. PANap19246 - Tablet serial parameters being reset
Hard-coded values in the DDX of the Xserver.
10. PANap19237 & PANap19549 - ICA corrupt display
Graphic chipset registers left in unproper states after
some draw operations.
11. PANap19172 - Audio pb when playing 16bits linear streams
Hard-coded values in the audio server.
12. PANap19552 - XDM pb when logging out
Merged patch PHSS_18765 which fixes this problem.

Defect Description:
PHSS_23061:
Id = NSMex03927
PHSS_18242 does not include latest packages.
Resolution:
New patch introduces latest packages.
PHSS_18241:
Id = NSMex02921
Accessing an empty drive produces a misleading error
message instead of a mount prompt.
Resolution:
Mount prompt issued now instead of the bad error
message when a DDS drive is empty.
Id = NSMex01898
When doing an appended backup the backup completes
successfully but in fact the positions on tape are
not correctly updated in the database. This is only
a problem on tapes created with Solaris BMA which had
st.conf configured as proposed in 2.10 Release Notes
and after it was upgraded from 2.10 to 2.55 and the MA
agent was installed without changing the st.conf as
proposed in 2.55 Release Notes
Resolution:
Special environment variable has been introduced to
enable old restore type. See Special Installation
Instructions on details how to use the variable.
Part of SSPUX255_116.
Id = NSMex01958
Cleaning tape is not handled properly with DLT 7000
devices.
Resolution:
The tape cleaning now works with DLT 7000 the same way
it does with DLT 4000.
Part of SSPUX255_120.
Id = NSMex01968
When mounting a tape into a drive and a aci_mount
returns EPROBVOL (d_errno=6), OB2 tries to mount
another tape and this can cause all tapes to become
poor.
Resolution::
EPROBVOL is now treated as a failure and agent is
aborted. It will not try to mount another tape, and
the drive needs to be checked manualy.
Part of SSPUX255_122.
Id = NSMex02048
If StorageTek robotics cannot dismount a tape and some
other Media Agent tries to use the same tape in another
drive, then ACS error STATUS_VOLUME_IN_DRIVE occurs
and the session is aborted instead of using another
tape.
Resolution:
Special environment variable has been introduced
to avoid this situation. See the Special Installation
Instructions for details.
Part of SSPUX255_124.
Id = NSMex02165
OmniBack is able to simulate device error conditions,
if there are some special files present in the tmp
directory. Checking for the presence of these files
causes bad backup performance.
Resolution:
Checking is only done, if the environment variable
OB2SIMENABLE is set.
Part of SSPUX255_129.
Id = NSMex02315
Busy drive dismount does not work. An error message is
issued instead of dismounting the media from the drive.
Resolution:
Busy drive handling improved.
Part of SSPUX255_137.
Id = NSMex02145
After the system reboot and potentialy the SCSI Library
reboot, the first use of the SCSI Library fails with
the error message:
"Can not load exchanger medium (...)"
The file syslog.log is filled up with SCSI Request
Timeout system reports because device doesn't responds
to the device driver in expected timeframe.
Resolution:
A timeout added to wait for the device to become ready.
Part of SSPUX255_141.
Id = NSMex02763, NSMex02816
If an I/O error occurrs on a device, it is possible
that the subsequent operations (rewind, offline) fail
and the medium is stuck in the drive.
Resolution:
Timeout and retry has been introduced for the rewind
and offline operations before giving up. See Special
Installation Instructions for details on setting the
timeout and retry values.
Part of SSPUX255_144.
Id = NSMex02668
When a dirty drive is detected in StorageTek ACSLS, a
Cleaning Tape is loaded and Media Agent tries to open
it. Open of the cleaning tape fails and the tape is
dismounted, and immediatelly mounted again. The whole
procedure is repeated over and over again.
Resolution:
Dirty drive cleaning on ACSLS is now handled correctly.
Part of SSPUX255_146.
PHSS_16709:
Id = NSMex01577
After opening and closing the CAP, uma misinterpreted
the library status. It could fail with the message:
"Cannot open exchanger control device, ...".
Id = NSMex01499
I/O errors which occured during backup or restore
(write or read) were not thoroughly checked. Solution:
Additional device checking was implemented.
Part of SSP255_84 and SSP255_95.
Id = NSMex01447 & NSMex01627
When copying a medium with omnimcopy, receiving the
early warning EOT caused session to abort, and tape
being scratched. The reason was an incorrect
counting of filemarks after the EOT warning.
Part of SSP255_64.
Id = NSMex01587 & HSLco09947
Import of a tape failed, or appended backup to a
tape failed due to a seek failure. The problem was
that end of tape was not marked correctly. This
happened when backup was used with reconnect
option and was been aborted.
Part of SSP255_80.
Id = NSMex01592
Restoring data from ExaByte EXB-480 fails because
of an 'unexpected status of medium'. The read function
returns 0 when it hits the filemark. OmniBack II then
checks the status of medium to verify that it hit a
filemark. The ExaByte device didn't respond as
expected.
Solution: Setting the environment variable in .omnirc
file to:
OB2READ0_FSM=1
causes OmniBack II to ignore the 'unexpected status
of medium' and take it as a filemark.
Part of SSP255_84.
Id = NSMex01511
When a magneto optical medium is dirty, then backup
may fail with the error: "Can not switch to exclusive
access.".
Solution: Setting the environment variable in .omnirc
file to:
OB2MO_REOPEN=1
causes OmniBack II to retry switching into exclusive
mode 5 times.
Part of SSP255_84.
Id = NSMex01641
Door of a SCSI-II exchanger was not locked after
entering the cartridges. If evironment variable is set
in .omnirc file:
OB2DOORLOCK=1
Solution: The door is unlocked with the 'eject'
operation and remains unlocked until the 'enter'
operation was performed. (Note that this is not
exactely the same approach as for door locking with
ACSLS configuration)
Part of SSP255_94.
Id = NSMex01682
UMA fails with the "stat S1" command, in the case when
slot 1 has internal address 0.
Part of SSP255_94.
Id = NSMex01494
The tape drive in the ADIC autochanger immediately
reported successful completion of the 'offline'
operation. A following 'move' operation was then started
too early and therefore failed. To solve the problem, a
new variable OB2OFFLINESLEEP was introduced. It allows
to specify the number of seconds the device has to wait
before an attempt to move the tape from the drive is
made. We suggest this variable to be set between 30 and
60 seconds. Apply the variable only to devices which
experience the described problem with unload operation.
PHSS_15793:
Id = NSMex01357
In the case that media agent failed for some reason,
two "DOWN" commands were sent to GRAU.
Part of SSP255_57.
Id = NSMbb18594
When entering multiple media into a library with
only one mailslot, then if a medium was put into
the mailslot immediately after the previous one
had been taken out, the operation could fail
and the medium was not entered into the slot.
Part of SSP255_62 and SSP255_73.
Id = NSMex01438
If the ACS-LS Media Agent was aborted two unlock
commands were sent. Because of that error was shown:
"StorageTek ACS error in "acs_unlock":
STATUS_LOCKID_NOT_FOUND."
Part of SSP255_66.
Id = NSMex01463
To append to a medium, omniback uses the seek function
which is supposed to fail at the End Of Data. This
function could fail for other reasons, causing the
write operation to start from a wrong position on the
tape and overwriting valid data. An additional check
was added to prevent this. If the seek failed then
the tape, that was used during seek is marked as poor.
Such tape has to be verified.
Part of SSP255_68.
PHSS_15466:
Id = NSMex01379
If the direct access medium (optical disks, disks,
files) contained a great number of small backups
(maximum 475), there was a possibility of corruption
of the data. Number of the segments on the medium
is now restricted to 950.
Part of SSP255_54.
Id = NSMex01411
If the offical patch (PHSS_14970/PHSS_14971) was
installed and during backup the backed up data were
appended to the tape then the backup failed
with "Unknown internal error". The problem happened
only if Media Agent was running on Sinix or on AIX.
Part of SSP255_56
PHSS_14970:
Id = NSMex01041
Backup to MO device on HP-UX 9.x failed with

To append to a medium, omniback uses the seek function
which is supposed to fail at the End Of Data. This
function could fail for other reasons, causing the
write operation to start from a wrong position on the
tape and overwriting valid data. An additional check
was added to prevent this.

Installation Instructions:
Please review all instructions and the Hewlett-Packard
SupportLine User Guide or your Hewlett-Packard support terms
and conditions for precautions, scope of license,
restrictions, and, limitation of liability and warranties,
before installing this patch.
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Back up your system before installing a patch.
2. Login as root.
3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory.
4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch:
cd /tmp
sh PHSS_23061
5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the
patch:
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \
-s /tmp/PHSS_23061.depot
By default swinstall will archive the original software in
/var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_23061. If you do not wish to retain a
copy of the original software, you can create an empty file
named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE.
WARNING: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the
patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful
when using this feature.
It is recommended that you move the PHSS_23061.text file to
/var/adm/sw/patch for future reference.
To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the
tape drive, use the command:
dd if=/tmp/PHSS_23061.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k
Special Installation Instructions:
PHSS_23061:
NOTE!
Patch has to be installed on the Cell Server host.
* The Media Agent package needs to be redistributed to the
appropriate systems, where the Media Agent Clients
are installed, from within the "Cell Administration
Install" window of the OmniBackII graphical user
interface before the patch modifications take effect.
NOTE!
Make sure that no backup or restore or media management
session is running while you distribute the package
to the MA clients.
NOTE!
A special environment variable is introduced to allow
restoring from tapes made on Solaris with st.conf set as
suggested in OmniBack II 2.10 Release Notes instead of
2.55 Release Notes (problem NSMex01898). The variable must
be set on Solaris media agent host, in the file
/usr/omni/.omnirc. This is the syntax:
OB2NOSEEK=0 | 1
0: normal 2.55 behaviour (default)
1: enable restore from 2.10 st.conf made tape
It is strongly suggested that after the restore has been
made, the st.conf is updated to the 2.55 Release Notes
setting in order to avoid future restore problems.
NOTE!
To enable the functionality of using another tape (problem
NSMex02048), new environment variable has been introduced.
The variable must be set in the file /opt/omni/.omnirc
(HP-UX 10.x) or /usr/omni/.omnirc (other unix systems).
This is the syntax:
OB2ACS_VOLUMEDRIVE_POOR=1
The default value is 0 (functionality disabled).
NOTE!
In order to solve the problems NSMex02763 and NSMex02816,
new environment variables have been introduced to specify
the timeout and retry values for the rewind and offline
operations. The variables must be set on the Media Agent
host file /opt/omni/.omnirc (HP-UX 10.x) or
/usr/omni/.omnirc (other unix systems).
This is the syntax:
OB2REWINDRETRY=<n>
OB2REWINDSLEEP=<sec>
OB2OFFLINERETRY=<n>
OB2OFFLINESLEEP=<sec>
The default value for all variables is 0 (no timeout and
retry).
NOTE!
In order to resolve Defect with Id NSMex01052,
also the OMNIBACK II A.02.55 CS packet patch has to
be installed. This is currently:
PHSS_21321 - on HP-UX 10.x
PHSS_21322 - on HP-UX 11.x
but may be superseded by a newer version in the future.
From the patch PHSS_16709/PHSS_16710 on OmniBack II
supports MA on AIX 4.3. Before pushing Media Agent to
AIX 4.3 the latest CS patch has to be installed. This
is currently:
PHSS_21321 - on HP-UX 10.x
PHSS_21322 - on HP-UX 11.x
PHSS_14970/PHSS_14971:

Status: General Release
Critical: No
Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s800/10.X/PHSS_23065
Symptoms:
PHSS_23065:
1. None (enhancement to STM interface for file system
changes).
PHSS_22846:
1. FC60 array
When FC60 array firmware version "HP06" is installed an
interaction between disk_em monitor and the new firmware
causes the disk_em monitor to falsely report event #30.
The updated UTM lun is perceived to be a scsi disk; however,
because it is not a scsi disk, disk_em then also logs errors
into the EMS event log.
Defect Description:
PHSS_23065:
1. STM file system functionality improved.
PHSS_22846:
1. A problem that is an interaction between disk_em tool
and the new firmware for the FC60 disk array causes
fc60mon EMS tool to falsely report event #30. The new
UTM lun was being looked at as if it were a scsi disk
but since it is not a scsi disk disk_em would report
errors and ems event notifications. The customer will
see these disk_em event notifications.
2. STM file system functionality improved.
Troubleshooting & Solutions
Apply patch number PHSS_23065 for s800 10.20 STM, This
patch only applies to systems using the FC60 array with the
new firmware version "HP06" on board. All systems without
this firmware upgrade onboard are not affected. Loading
this patch before updating the firmware on the FC60 will
not cause any problems on the system. The patch does not
need to be reinstalled after the new firmware is onboard.
Note: Patch PHSS_23065 has a dependency on PHCO_22627.
Patch PHSS_23065 MUST be applied AFTER the December 2000
OnlineDiag software bundle.

Special Installation Instructions:
This patch applies to the users of the new ANSI C++ Standard
Library 2.0 (libstd_v2) only.
Every development site (on A.01.23 through A.01.27) that
installs this patch MUST also install the library patch
PHSS_22354. The following note appears in PHSS_22354:
NOTE TO USERS OF THE NEWLY INTRODUCED ANSI C++ STANDARD
LIBRARY VERSION 2.0 (libstd_v2):
If you have used aC++ versions A.01.23 through A.01.27 with
the -AA option then you must install this patch.
If as an ISV you have shipped a library built WITH the -AA
option, please contact HP for further information. If as an
end user you have received and installed third party
libraries or applications built or compiled WITH the -AA
option, please contact HP for further information.
To determine whether your library/application uses -AA, run
the command
chatr <executable/runtime library> | grep libstd_v2
If the output of this command is NOT empty, your
library/application uses -AA.
This libstd_v2 roll is necessary to establish compatibility
with the definition of mbstate_t (multibyte support) in the
HPUX 11.11 runtime (libc).
If you install this patch you MUST recompile and relink any
applications built with the -AA option (and be sure your
software vendors have done so for their products).
Every development site (on A.01.23 through A.01.27) that
installs this patch MUST also install the header file patch
PHSS_22867. All aC++ applications built with the -AA option
on versions A.01.23 through A.01.27 must then be recompiled
and relinked. If this is not done, link time or run time
incompatibilities may result. See CR JAGad36658 above.

unsats. Allow +I_main.
PHSS_17872:
Resolution:
1. Performance improved for Rogue Wave RWCString when
using CMA threads
2. A signal 6 may occur in libCsup if functions that
have a throw do not have any returns or exit at
the bottom. I.e. an infinite loop with a throw.
Sometimes this error only shows up if optimization
is used. Note the same applies to any caller of
the function doing the throw.
This can also happen if any preceding function
(of any caller) in the program also has no exit.
PHSS_16585:
1. RWCString::readLine(,true) only sets eofbit upon EOF.
Using the ios::operator void*() does not return false in
this case. The following is never false.
while (f.readLine(,true))
PHSS_15043:
1. When using istrstream to read numbers or a character
string at the end of the buffer, the setting of the eofbit
is inconsistent. With numbers eofbit is not set.
2. the std library container vector performance problem.
The execution time for insertion grows more than linearly
with number of elements, as required by standard.
3. me clash for "times" defined in system header
<sys/times.h> and non-standard conforming C++ standard
library header <functional>.
4. Executables linked with libcma receive SIGBUS before
reaching main().
PHSS_14262:
1. dld processes initializers with all signals turned off.
Some applications stop responding to anything but kill -9:
because dld is in a critical section with all signals turned
off and static initializer locks a mutex twice causing
deadlock.
PHSS_13388:
1. aCC consumes much memory for small lists or other small
containers this does not conform with the ANSI DRAFT.
2. The version of libCsup with patch PHSS_12609, A.01.07,
changed operators new[] and delete[] to no longer call the
non-array operators.
This change exposed a problem in libstream where there is a
mismatch in strstream and streambuf where operator new[] and
then operator delete is called.
3. The function RWTPtrSortedVector<T>::index() doesn't
return npos as documented, if it is < first element. It
returns 0 instead. If in between elements it returns
lower_bound.
4. The RogueWave documentation for tools.h++ template
RWTValHashDictionary template should mention that it has
four parameters.
5. Memory leak when using <string> with either threads
library, libcma or libpthread. This problem will occur on
10.20, 10.30 and 11.0 with various combinations of the two
leaks.
6. The following aCC program can't be compiled:
#include <map>
int main() { map<int, double> myMap;
map<int,double>::const_iterator i = myMap.begin();
double a = i->second;
// double a = (*i).second is ok! a = a * 2.5;
return 0; }
$ aCC main.c Error 185: "main.c", line 11 # Left side

const Allocator& a = Allocator());
Creates a string that contains the first n characters of s.
s must not be a NULL pointer. The effects of this
constructor are:
An out_of_range exception will be thrown if n == npos.
2. Some RW sources/includes are giving the 641 (future)
error. Here is an example one:
Error (future) 641: "/opt/aCC/include/rw/xvdlist.cc", line
493 # Undeclared variable 'advance'.
Did you forget to make the variable dependent on the
template type parameters so it would be looked up when
templates are generated?
advance();

3. MEMBER TEMPLATES: <memory> needs more typename fixes.
4. aCC consumes much memory for small lists or other small
containers.
5. Undeclared variable, future error 641, issued.
PHSS_10113:
1. A.01.04 compatability
PHSS_10053:
The problem is that the dynamic loader is repeatedly
applying relocations in a shared library, that should only
be applied once. This leads to a noticable performance
degradation.
PHSS_9527:

(PHKL_22670:)
(SR: 8606167324 CR: JAGad36610)
During a write to a floppy disk, the potential may exist
for the floppy disk controller to incorrectly transfer the
last byte of data in a sector if the computer is
simultaneously experiencing activity on the I/O bus
sufficient to cause a significant delay in the transfer of
that byte, but no other byte. Specifically, the next to
last byte could be re-written in the place of the last
byte. This potential error may not be reported to the
user.
(PHKL_9006:)
Geometry problem reports that media with 77 tracks has 80
tracks, but you cannot write to tracks 78, 79, and 80.
The data loss with the "dd" command only occurs on newest
workstations with extreme load of I/O processes.
(PHKL_7614:)
Silent data loss. Requires data read & compare to detect.
Defect Description:
PHKL_22951:
Porting of 10.01 patch PHKL_22670
(PHKL_22670:)
(SR: 8606167324 CR: JAGad36610)
It is claimed that a design error exists in certain floppy
disk controller technology that creates the potential for
data corruption or data loss during the transfer of data to
or from a floppy disk or tape device that utilizes a floppy
disk controller. Specifically, it is alleged that this
potential exists when the floppy disk controller is
transferring the last byte of a sector and only if the
computer is simultaneously experiencing activity on the
I/O bus sufficient to cause a significant delay in the
transfer of that byte, but no other byte. HP is unaware
of any customer actually experiencing this error.
Nevertheless, HP is offering a software patch to customers
to eliminate the possibility that their computers could
experience such an error.
Resolution:
The software patch eliminates the possibility that a HP
computer could experience the error described above. HP is
recommending that customers visit HP's website at
http://hp.com/go/fdcpatch or you can call HP's customer
Service Center at 1-800-742-9729 in order to determine if
HP recommends downloading the patch.
(PHKL_9006:)
Using floppy media with 77 tracks, the ioctl commands will
report 80 tracks, but you cannot write to the last tracks.
The write corruption occurs on PC floppy media during loop
of dd commands and pdc_model calls under heavy I/O load.
The problem occurs when the floppy-disk-controller (FDC)
enters unknown state during high numbers of interrupts.
Problem only found under extreme load conditions on newer
workstations with very fast processors.
(PHKL_7614:)
Access to the PDC while comparing data read and written to
the floppy reproduces this data loss. May not be easily
reproducible on 10.x systems, as the problem was originally
found and fixed on 9.x systems.
In this case, the data loss was caused by overflow of the
floppy DMA buffer when its interrupts are not serviced fast
enough.

Porting of 10.20 patch PHKL_22379
(PHKL_22379:)
(SR: 8606167324 CR: JAGad36610)
During a write to a floppy disk, the potential may exist

that byte, but no other byte. Specifically, the next to

(PHKL_11911:)
Under the right conditions of high interrupt load, the first
four bytes of a 512 byte transfer could be corrupted.
An unrelated change also increases the number of retries
performed on read and write requests. This could help
successfully read or write data on marginal or defective
media.
(PHKL_11138:)
Some writes will fail but will not be reported. This can
result in unknown data corruption. These types of failures
occur on newer workstations with a high load of I/O
processes.
(PHKL_9010:)
Geometry problem reports that media with 77 tracks has 80
tracks, but you cannot write to tracks 78, 79, and 80.
The data loss with the "dd" command only occurs on newest
workstations with extreme load of I/O processes.
Defect Description:
PHKL_22908:
Porting of 10.20 patch PHKL_22379
(PHKL_22379:)
(SR: 8606167324 CR: JAGad36610)
(PHKL_11911:)
The data in the DMA buffer is not flushed from the data
cache to memory before the dma engine fetches it. When that
happens, the dma engine will fetch incorrect data from
memory. This usually results in four bytes of corrupted
data. The corrupted data will begin on a 512 byte boundary.
An unrelated change increases the number of re-tries for
read and write requests to the floppy.
(PHKL_11138:)
The write corruption occurs on PC floppy media during
heavy I/O load. The problem occurs when the floppy disk
controller (FDC) encounters a data underrun when writing to
the floppy disk. The problem does not occur on every
data under-run condition and is usually only seen under
heavy system load and newer workstations with fast
processors.
(PHKL_9010:)
