    The 'environment' of the output from a $STDLIST spoolfile, when printed
    to a network printer changes to the default printer configuration at a
    point in the spoolfile where a program terminates. This can cause
    unwanted changes in printout formatting (depending how different the
    setup file and the printer's defaults are) like orientation changing
    from landscape to portrait, different fonts or pitch.

    This was caused by the spooler sending (what we deem) an unnecessary
    escape sequence (UEL) when an FCLOSE record appears in the spoolfile.

    This patch also fixes a syntax problem in the NPCONFIG example
    files NMSAMP1 and NMSAMP2.PUB.SYS. The item 'data_intray' is
    incorrectly named 'data_tray'.

    External Symptoms, Cause, Fix Description
    =========================================

    The network spooler (OUTSPTJ) repeatedly prints the same spoolfile
    after reaching the last page restarting from the beginning, when
    PJL_SUPPORTED=TRUE in NPCONFIG.PUB.SYS on certain LaserJet printers,
    OR it repeatedly prints the banner page if HEADON is set for this
    printer's LDEV.

    Newer HP LaserJet printer hold a new PJL feature called JOBID.

    By factory default the JOBID feature is turned off, but there is
    (yet unidentified) non-HP3000 spooler software that may change the
    JOBID default and turn it on permanently in the printer.

    This causes a change in the PJL responses of the printer to the MPE
    spooler, and the spooler is not handling the new PJL syntax well;
    instead it incorrectly 'maps' this error to a powerfail error, and
    therefore reprints the spoolfile (or the banner) from the beginning
    ad infinitum.

    We have identified the following Laser Printer Models to
    be potentially affected, since they support the JOBID feature:

    LJ 5, 5M, 5si.
    LJ 4000, 8000, 8100
    Color LJ 4500, 8500

    The fix will be to handle the new PJL syntax correctly.

    Customer Environment Changes
    ============================

    Customer who previously worked around by setting their NPCONFIG
    entry to PJL_SUPPORTED=FALSE should be changing this back to =TRUE.
