This patch is a Firmware update for the following systems ONLY:
HP9000 Model L1000A & L2000A
HP9000 Model L1000B & L2000B
---------------------------------------------------------------------

This patch is a Firmware update for the HP9000 Model L1000 & L2000
      systems.

Upon releasing the L1000 and L2000 revision B models, the factory rolled
from shipping server firmware revision 40.26 to 40.48 on 12/15/00.
Systems that shipped with 40.48 are identified by serial numbers
xxx4050xxx and later.

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server firmware
revision 41.38:

- 1GB DIMMs have been produced with 2 different refresh rates, both types
are usable in L-Class and N-Class servers however, the newer DIMMs
that have a faster refresh rate could not be used in the same DIMM pair
as the older DIMMs. PDC 41.38 allows the DIMMs to mixed in the same
DIMM pair.
- Added support for 2GB FC boot.
- Enabled slot 3 for internal RAID.
- Added support for internal RAID.
- Added support for PCI-PCI Bridge boot.
- Added support for Ultra 160 SCSI boot.
- Added 'SCROLL' command to BCH Service Menu.
- Added FRU location to FRU id values.
- An issue has been identified with the OLAR functionality on L-Class
servers running HPUX 11.11 PDC revision 41.38 corrects the issue.

PF_CRHW4048:

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server firmware
revision 40.48:
      1. Provide support for L1000 and L2000 revision B models(L1000B & L2000B)
      2. Provide OLA/R support
      3. PDC did not report overtemperature warning to HP-UX
      4. GSP 'ps' command shows 1220W for power supply
      5. Graphics board shows up as 'unknown' in PDC "in io" command
      6. PDC 'in io' identifies RAID card inappropriately
      7. PDC revision now appears in HPMC tombstones
      8. Hitting 'break' key on ASCII terminal while at PDC causes IODC error
      9. PDC 'ser pn' only displays first 5 digits of current product number value
     10. Increase the list of FRU_ID values recognized by PDC
     11. PDC call PDC_PAT_COMPLET subfun 6 (get cabinet info) fails repeatedly
         with -3
     12. PDC must not be case sensative to FRU_ID values.

Detailed Explanation:

      1. Self explanatory
      2. L1000 and L2000 revision A models require PDC 40.48 and HP-UX 11i to
enable the high availability OLA/R feature. OLA/R stands for OnLine
Addition Removal and Replacement of PCI cards.
      3. Partial implementation of this fix appeared in PDC 40.14. When an overtemp
shutdown occurred, PDC notified HP-UX so it could perform an orderly
shutdown. However, an overtemp chassis log was not created. With PDC
40.48, a chassis log is created.
      4. GSP 'ps' command reported the 930W L-Class power supplies as "1220W". Fix
is to report L-Class power supplies as "Type 0".
      5. A6150-60001 L-Class 2-D Graphics board reported as 'unknown' in PDC "in
io" command. Fix is to report as TBD.
      6. Several PCI cards were not listed int the PCI current lookup table and
appeared as unknown when using the BCH command in io. Added new PCI cards
         to the lookup table.
      7. The firmware revision did not appear in tombstone printouts, added PDC
         rev in the tombstone output.
      8. At PDC main menu, pressing the Break key on the web console or power
cycling the console caused an unrecoverable IODC error. The PDC error
handling routines were changed to properly handle these occurances.
      9. When the BCH command ser pn was executed only the first 5 characters of
the product were displayed. Changed the ser pn command to display 6
         characters.
     10. PDC 40.19 did not recognise FRU ID's of newer revisions of replacement
parts. PDC 40.48 now correctly identifies all of the newer revisions of
         replacement parts.
     11. The PDC subroutine PDC_PAT_COMPLET subfun 6 did not poll the power monitor
or other PDH hardware properly this caused EMS to report errors. PDC
40.48 firmware correctly poll all PDH hardware so EMS will report correct
         status.
     12. When installing new system boards with a5191-67001 in the PART NUMBER
field of the FRU_ID the model string changes from 9000/800/Lx00-44 to
9000/800/Lx00-36. Changed PDC 40.48 to be insensitive to the case of
         PART NUMBER entries.

PF_CRHW4026:

The following issue has been addressed and corrected with server firmware
40.26:

      1. Server firmware revision 40.19 only recognizes A5191-60001 as a valid part
number entry within FRU_ID of the system board. Any other value causes the
following symptoms common to 360MHz and 440MHz CPUS:

         - Each CPU reports a 17D0 system alert during selftest.
           17D0 indicates an "INVALID_SYS_BOARD_PART_NUM".
         - The following server firmware warning is generated:

WARNING: Invalid processor clock chip setting.

The following symptoms are unique to servers with 440MHz CPUs installed:

         - Server firmware identifies 440MHz CPUs as 360MHz CPUs.
         - The server model string will change from 9000/800/Lx000-44 to
           9000/800/Lx000-36 (where x = 1 or 2).

NOTE: The server hardware is actually running 440MHz.

         - The HP-UX clock gains approximately 15 minutes/hour.

       2. An HPMC may occur as a result of performing a TOC (Transfer Of Control).

PF_CRHW4019:

The factory rolled from shipping server firmware revision 39.46 to 40.14 on
4/5/00. Server firmware revision 40.14 was not released as a firmware patch.
That effort was underway when a shutdown problem was discovered. Systems that
shipped with 40.14 are identified by serial numbers xxx4014xxx through
xxx4018xxx.

The factory rolled from shipping server firmware revision 40.14 to 40.19 on
5/8/00. Systems that shipped with 40.19 are identified by serial numbers
xxx4019xxx and later.

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server firmware
revision 40.14:

      1. Increase maximum memory size for L1000 from 4GB to 8GB
      2. Support 1GB DIMM (A6115A - 2GB memory module)
      3. Server firmware did not report overtemperature warning to HP-UX
      4. Server firmware recognizes only the abbreviated version of some commands
      5. New chassis code for invalid system board FRU_ID part number
      6. Hardware paths for devices below a PCI-to-PCI bridge are displayed
         incorrectly
      7. "Firmware Version" displays single digit week (i.e. 40.6 rather than 40.06)
      8. Server firmware does not display help text for some commands
      9. Change alert level for fatal (fails selftest/prevents boot) DIMM loading
         alert from 8 to 15
     10. Change alert level for deconfigured CPUs from 6 to 2 & change problem
detail from 3 to 8 (for Instant Capacity On Demand)
     11. New version of PCI bus adapter is fully supported.
     12. The firmware Low Priority Machine Check (LPMC) handler has been modified to
properly manage a LPMC as to not cause an HPMC in systems running with
         multiple processors.

The following issue has been addressed and corrected with server firmware 40.19:

1. Systems with server firmware revision 40.14 may experience a system panic or
system hang in response to the HP-UX command "shutdown -h" .

PF_CRHW3946:

Firmware revision 39.46 adds the following:

      Features/Enhancements
      1) Provides support for L1000 servers
      2) Server firmware command "in pr" now displays model string

      Fixes
      1) Memory Page Deallocation Table (PDT) can be incorrectly reported as full
      2) Console can be changed to invalid path without recovery possible
      3) Server firmware command "in all" from does not include "in cr" data
      4) Fatal loading order of memory DIMMs causes HPMC during selftest
      5) HPMC upon boot from A5506A or A5150A following server firmware "search"
      6) PDC_SYSTEM_INFO stack overflow may cause HPMC
      7) Changing processor model or speed may not update model string

      Explanation of Features/Enhancements
      1) HP 9000 L1000 servers were released 10/99. These servers were released
         with server firmware revision 39.46.
      2) Beginning with revision 39.46, the server firmware command "in pr" now
displays the model string (IE: 9000/800/L2000-36) in addition to
         processor related information.

      Explanation of Fixes
      1) In some cases, a faulty CPU may also generate a server firmware WARNING
that the Page Deallocation Table (PDT) is full. However, typing the
'in me' command shows the PDT is not full. Server firmware revision 39.46
         solves this problem.
      2) The console can be redirected via the server firmware 'path' to a non-
existent device path. Upon the next system reset, it will not be possible
to interact with the server firmware main menu. Server firmware revision
39.46 solves this by verifying the value entered for the console is a
         valid device path.
      3) The server firmware command 'in all' (information all) did not include
the data returned by the server firmware command 'in cr' (information
chip revisions). 'in all' now includes 'in cr' data.
      4) If memory DIMM's are installed in such a manner as to prevent selftest
from completing, (IE: no memory installed in slots 0 a/b) an HPMC occurs.
Server firmware revision 39.46 issues a system alert informing the user
of the problem and an HPMC does not occur.
      5) If the server firmware "search" command is performed on either the A5506A
4 Port 100 Base TX or the A5150A Dual Port Ultra 2 SCSI adapter and boot
from these devices is attempted, an HPMC will occur. Currently, boot is
not supported from PCI cards that have a 'pci to pci' bridge. As of
12/99, the A5506A and A5150A are the only PCI cards with a 'pci to pci'
bridge supported on L-Class. The fix is for "search" to not recognize
         these cards.
Boot from the A5506A and A5150A is not supported at this time.
      6) In some cases, running High Availability Observatory software can cause
the server firmware module PDC_SYSTEM_INFO to overflow its 8K stack
space, resulting in an HPMC. The fix prevents PDC_SYSTEM_INFO from
         overflowing its stack space.
      7) For servers with server firmware revision 39.40, it is possible for the
processor speed field of the model string to be incorrect. For L2000
servers with server firmware revision 39.40, model strings can be
         displayed two ways;
         1) by connecting to the Guardian Service processor (GSP) via LAN and
         2) in response to the HP-UX model command.

            GSP Example:
            Service Processor login:
            Service Processor password:

             Hewlett-Packard Guardian Service Processor

             9000/800/L2000-36 Server Name: fesrhapgsp
                            ^^
Processor Speed Field may be incorrect
                36 for 360MHz, 44 for 440MHz CPU's

             HP-UX Example:
             #model
             9000/800/L2000-36
                            ^^
Processor Speed Field may be incorrect
                36 for 360MHz, 44 for 440MHz CPU's

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This patch is a Firmware update for the HP9000 Model N4000
      systems.

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server firmware
revision 41.36:

1. Added 'sn' command to BCH Information menu. This command displays the
serial number stored in stable storage.
2. Added 'scroll' command to BCH Service menu. This command allows the
display to scroll when using BCH utilities.
3. Enabled use of PA8700 revision 2.3 CPU's.
4. Previous revisions of PDC prevented MPE systems from properly handling
a Transfer Of Control (TOC) when LDEV1 was not on an internal disk. PDC
revision 41.36 properly handles TOC's on an MPE system.
5. HPMC chassis codes reported an incorrect PDC base address. When the
chassis code is sent for HPMC MONARCH SELECTED it will now report the
full 64 bit address.
6. The PDC revision number was displayed incorrectly, it has been changed
to display correctly.
7. The PCI reset time did not meet the minimum required by the PCI
specifications, it has been changed to meet the specification.
8. Changed IODC to allow DDS4 tape drives to operate in LVD mode on A5149A
SCSI Card.
9. When a PCI I/O card is added or replaced Online, the PCI slot is left
in a state from which is not designed to handle some types of errors.
This may result in potential data integrity issues. These OLAR operations
should not be performed on these systems until the PDC of the system is
upgraded to revision 41.36.

PF_CPRW4102:

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server firmware
revision 41.02:
      1. Provide support Revision 3.1 processors
      2. Provide OLA/R support
      3. Provide support for new compiler toolsets
      4. Serial Number command added to BCH information menu
      5. Display CPU speed with BCH command "in pr"
      6. Added MPE support
      7. Corrected error in LMPC handler
      8. Added support for RAID IODC
      9. BCH command "CO DE" does not correctly default the model string

Detailed Explanation:

      1. Self explanatory
      2. N4000 servers require PDC 40.49 and HP-UX 11i to enable the
high availability OLA/R feature. OLA/R stands for OnLine Addition Removal
and Replacement of PCI cards. PDC revision 40.49 is not available for
field installation only PDC revision 41.02 is available.
      3. Older revisions of firmware did not support new compiler toolsets. Added
         support for new toolsets.
      4. Previous revisions of PDC did not allow Field Engineer to view the serial
number. Added the BCH command "in sn" to allow Field Engineers to view the
         system serial number.
      5. Older revisions of firmaware did not check the speed of the processor and
defaulted to high speed, this caused intermittant system errors. A line
was added to the BCH "in pr" command to display the speed of the processor
and add a warning message for slow speed processors.
      6. Older revisions of firmware did not support MPE. PDC revision 41.02 is
         required to support MPE.
      7. Under certain error conditions LPMC's caused HPMC's to be generated. PDC
revision 41.02 was changed to properly handle the error conditions.
      8. Self explanatory.
      9. After changing the switches on the system board to 440Mhz from 550Mhz, the
BCH command "CO DE" does not change the model string to 9000/800/N4000-44.

PF_CPRW4025:

New Server Firmware (Rev. 213/ 40.25) is needed to address issues regarding:

            1. The speed detection section of PDC did not detect a 360/440 MHz
processor when installed into a 550 MHz system. This enabled the
chance of installing a slow speed processor in a high-speed system.
PDC now detects this condition, issues a warning message and
               prevents HP-UX from booting.
            2. PDC now supports boot via the A5158A (PCI 2x Fiber Channel) family
               of I/O cards.

PF_CPRW3946:

New Server Firmware (Rev. 204/ 39.46) is needed to address issues
            regarding:

            - PDC_SYSTEM_INFO is overflowing its stack space, may cause HPMC.
            - Register gr2 is incorrect on CPUs 3-7 during LPMC.
            - "Ser scsi" commands do not accept paths with PCI to PCI bridges.

PF_CPRW3941:

Firmware revision 39.41 adds the following features and enhancements:

            - Provides enhancements needed for future hardware.
            - Improved soft reset routine.
            - Enforces CPU loading order 1,3,5,7,0,2,4,6
            - Ensures all CPUs are in the same cache configuration
            - Limits boot from tape retries to 10
            - Fix firmware shutdown process to prevent HPMC on shutdown
            - Preserves SCSI info after a firmware update (from 39.25 only)
            - Ensures system has reached a quiescent state prior to starting
firmware HPMC handler to enable proper reporting of the cause of
              the failure
            - Fixed warning bits not being cleared on reset
            - All single bit errors are now resolved to the specific DIMM
            - Check for invalid console path to prevent user from selecting the
              GSP internal path

display to scroll when using BCH utilities.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

This patch is a Firmware update for the HP9000 Model Kx70 & Kx80
      systems.

The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in server
firmware revision 41.34:

Support has been added for the HSC A6685A Fibre Channel Card. There are
significant restrictions imposed on the location of the A6685A card when
Graphics cards are in the server. The table below shows the maximum
number of cards allowed in the server.

Max Configurations for Kx70 and Kx80 systems.

CARD Maximum Number of Cards
_________________________________________________________
Visualize-EG 0 0 0 1 1 2 2 3 4
Visualize-48XP 0 1 2 0 1 0 1 0 0
Fibre Channel 8 5 2 7 4 6 3 5 4

The A6685A Fibre Channel card is not supported from Core I/O Slots (10/0
and 10/8). The card is supported from all other HSC slots. Boot and Dump
are supported for The A6685A Fibre Channel Card. This firmware will not
search Fibre Channel Fabric for bootable images and that support is not
planned. When booting over Fibre Channel you must know the full hardware
path to the boot device.

PF_CBHK3943:

Firmware revision 39.43 adds the following fixes:

- System hangs for varying duration of time that can not be interrupted
      by TOC.

- System clock (software maintained) loses time. The time loss occurs randomly
and may result in large losses over a relatively short time period.

Occurrences of the above problem have only been reported against the HP3000
989KS/x00 (Bravehawk) and 989KS/x50 (Dragonhawk) systems. Software
applications that perform frequent calling of a PDC routine, PDC_CHASSIS,
affect the amount of time lost by the system clock.

NOTE: For a more complete solution, install patch MPEKXY0 A for 5.5
          and B for 6.0.

PF_CBHK3911:

FIRMWARE revision 39.11 adds the following fixes and enhancements:

       FIXES:

       - Freezes CPU Drive Strength value during boot.

This firmware change negates the need for the Upvtfix tool which was
provided in PF_CUPVTFIX. It is recommended that Upvtfix tool be removed
from the system after installation of firmware revision 39.11.

The tool removal can be accomplished using the following command:

                    swremove Upvtfix

If the Upvtfix tool was installed by means other than using swinstall,
it will have to be removed manually.

       - Fixes incorrect warning messages when PDCINFO is run on
          a 11.xx HP-UX system.

       - Does not delete the PDC LANID when the EEPROM is cleared.

       - Fixes the HP-PB I/O bus converter/card cage problem when
a PSI card is used. When PDCINFO gets called from the OS
by Predictive Support, and a PSI is plugged into the HP-PB
external card cage, HP-UX does not fail with a flt anymore.

       - Systems with Service-Guard configurations can now run
PDCINFO using Predictive support without failure. The
PDC procedure "PDC_SYSTEM_INFO" is now cached in memory,
which significantly improves the speed at which PDCINFO
will execute, thus preventing the problems associated
          with Service-Guard.

       ENHANCEMENTS:

       - Provides support for HP-UX boot time improvement, which allows
the OS to set PDC selftest parameters for the next boot. This
feature is not currently supported by the OS.

PF_CBHK3830:

       - Page deallocation table (PDT) entries will be generated for
HPMC's caused by multi bit memory errors.

       - Transfer of control (TOC) does not corrupt the OS TOC
Vector when PDC_SYSTEM_INFO option 1 or 4 is called.

PF_CBHK3816:

New Firmware is required for K370,K570,K380 & K580 servers to boot from
Fibre Channel devices. In addition to new firmware for the server, new
firmware is also required for the Fibre Channel interface (A3404A).

The minimum revision of firmware for the server is 38.16. The minimum
revision of firmware for the Fibre Channel interface (A3404A) is 3810.
When a SCSI Mux (A3308A) is part of the Fibre Channel boot path, the
firmware for that Mux must be revision 3806 or later. The minimum
revision of HP-UX required for Fibre Channel boot is HP-UX 11.0 IPR
9804 (both 32 and 64 bit).

To summarize Fibre Channel boot requirements:

                          Server firmware: 38.16 or later
Fibre Channel interface firmware: 3810 or later
SCSI Mux firmware: 3806 or later
HP-UX Operating system version: 11.0 IPR 9808 or later

Following installation of the new firmware, the user will be able to
cold install HP-UX 11.0 IPR 9804 from an embedded removeable media
source (CDROM or DDS) to one of the supported Fibre channel boot disks.
The system can then boot from the desired Fibre Channel boot disk. The
Fibre Channel boot disk will support SWAP but not DUMP.

At this time, only the following non-High Availability configurations
are supported:

Direct Connect Configuration:
=============================

K-Class Server -- A3404A -- EMC Model 3430 or A3661A

SCSI Mux Configuration:
=======================

K-Class Server -- A3404A -- A3308A -- A3700A or A3312A (F/W SCSI only)

Fibre Channel boot is supported when the A3404A is installed in the
Optional I/O slot of the Core I/O board or any slot of HSC Expansion
cards. Fibre Channel boot is NOT supported if the A3404A is installed
in the HSC slot on the A3668A Visualize-48XP Graphics card.

Prior to installing the new server firmware, the current firmware
revision should be verified. An update should be performed if the
server firmware revision is less than 38.16. Refer to the VERIFYING
CURRENT REVISION OF SERVER FIRMWARE section of this file for information
on how to verify the current revision of server firmware. If you are
unsure of current firmware revisions for the Fibre Channel Interface
(A3304A) or SCSI Mux (A3308A) contact your Hewlett Packard service
representative.

Firmware revision 38.16 is available as a firmware patch through
the HPESC (HP Electronic Support Center) World Wide Web service
home page as filename PF_CBHK3816.
