( SR:8606215976 CR:JAGad85148 )
When thousands of threads are waiting on a select(2) call,
application performance slows down considerably. This is
an enhancement to sleep queues to boost performance.
( SR:8606226427 CR:JAGad95496 )
Possible races from kernel subsystems that assume the
entry to kernel sleep is atomic. This can result in
missed wakeup events.

the HP-UX Processor Sets product (PROCSETS). When PROCSETS
product is installed, it will install the full set of
required patches for that product, including this patch.
If the HP-UX Processor Sets product is not installed, this
change will have no Processor Sets impact on your system.
( SR:8606199577 CR:JAGad68764 )
This patch is a member of a set of patches needed to enable
the HP-UX Virtual Partitions product Sets. When the HP-UX
Virtual Partitions product (VPARSBASE or T1335AA) is
installed, it will install the full set of required patches
for that product, including this patch.
If the HP-UX Virtual Partitions product is not installed,
this change will have no Virtual Partitions impact on your
system.

Load averages reported by such utilities as top and uptime
are overall higher in 11.11 than they were in earlier
releases.
PHKL_23665:

( SR:8606103740 CR:JAGab70789 )
A multi-threaded process being executed over NFS can become
hung and unkillable while performing either a fork, core,
setrlimit, SIGSTOP, or debugger operations. This can happen
with mutiple threads in different processes competing for
the same resource when one thread is stopped.
Defect Description:
PHKL_25389:
( SR:8606215976 CR:JAGad85148 )
This is an enhancement for a performance problem seen while
trying to remove a single thread from a long sleep queue.
This would be useful to customers who are making numerous
system calls that would cause threads to sleep on the same
sleep queue, such as select(2).
Resolution:
The sleep queues were changed from a single-linked list to
a double-linked list.
( SR:8606226427 CR:JAGad95496 )
This is an enhancment that allows kernel subsystems to
enter kernel sleep with alternative locking rules. By
permitting these new locking rules, other subsystems are
able to close race windows around entering and leaving
kernel sleep. If there is no other patch that requires
this change, it will do nothing.
Resolution:
Permit kernel subsystems entering kernel sleep to hold
an additional resource to prevent race conditions .
PHKL_24551:
( SR:8606200799 CR:JAGad69975 )
This patch contains minor enhancements required to support
the HP-UX Processor Sets product.
Resolution:
Enhancements added to enable scheduler to recognize and
work with processor sets when the Processor Sets product
is enabled.
( SR:8606199577 CR:JAGad68764 )
This patch contains minor enhancements required to support
the HP-UX Virtual Partitions product.
Resolution:
Enhancements added to support CPU migration.
( SR:8606194817 CR:JAGad64023 )
System daemon threads are factored into the load average
calculations in 11.11 where they were not in earlier
releases. This makes the reported load averages higher
than they were in earlier releases.
Resolution:
This patch changes the load average calculations to once
more disregard system daemon threads, resulting in load
averages much more closely aligned to those in earlier
releases.
PHKL_23665:
( SR:8606128017 CR:JAGac78818 )
When vhand's priority is increased due to it being
preempted, there is a race with other threads which are
also raising vhand's priority at the same time. Thus,
when vhand switches back to run again, its policy and
priority number do not match. The priority and policy
will be back in sync once the thread which elevated the
priority of vhand is restored to run again.
Resolution:
Preemption_point no longer elevates the priority of the
preempted thread.
PHKL_24257:
( SR:8606159451 CR:JAGad28779 ) Duplicate
( SR:8606103740 CR:JAGab70789 )
A thread acquires a lock and then sleeps interruptibly. The
interruptible sleep permits the thread to be stopped. Any
other thread attempting to acquire this lock will sleep
uninterruptibly until the lock is available. This
uninterruptible thread is also unkillable. This introduces
a deadlock potential in multi-threaded processes: when a
thread holding the lock, a thread desiring the lock, and a
third thread doing one of fork, setrlimit, core, SIGSTOP, or
debugger operations, all occur at the same time in the
same process, the deadlock is reached. The only way to
resolve the deadlock is to reboot the system. A similar
situation can occur when threads in different processes
are competing for the same NFS resource and the thread that
owns that resource is stopped via a signal, a debugger,
or a ctrl-Z.
This patch is part of a set of five patches (PHKL_24253,
PHKL_24254,PHKL_24255,PHKL_24256,PHKL_24257) that enable
P_NOSTOP, a new feature that prevents a process from being
unkillable. Each patch is independently installable.
Without all five installed, P_NOSTOP will be unavailable.
In order to prevent the process executed over NFS from
becoming unkillable, NFS must use the P_NOSTOP feature.
Usage of this feature was added to PHNE_23502.
Resolution:
If a thread acquires a lock and then sleeps interruptibly,
it is not permitted to be stopped if P_NOSTOP is set. This
prevents this thread from becoming unkillable and prevents
the deadlock.

poll(2) hangs when timeout is set to 1msec for 0 file
descriptors.
( SR:8606199534 CR:JAGad68721 )
On a multi-processor system, a thread may hang in
select(2) sleeping on a pipe or socket read, even when data
is present on those channels. It most likely happens when
the system is heavily loaded, or when multiple threads
call select(2) on the same read channel simultaneously.
PHKL_23843:
( SR:8606177051 CR:JAGad46286 )
Select(2) system call may never return when it is used as
a fast sleep/wakeup mechanism (with the parameter "range
of file descriptors" set to 0), if it receives signals
periodically at the interval that is shorter than the
timeout interval of the select(2).
( SR:8606180428 CR:JAGad49649 )
On a multi-processor system, a thread may hang in
select(2) sleeping on a pipe or socket read, even when data
is present on those channels. It most likely happens when
the system is heavily loaded, or when multiple threads
call select(2) on the same read channel simultaneously.
Defect Description:
PHKL_25233:
( SR:8606217425 CR:JAGad86577 )
When poll(2) is called with 0 file descriptors and a timeout
of 1msec, it hangs in unselect(). This is due to a race
that occurs in unselect(). This race occurs because the
thread's status shows that it is in a running state when it
is actually being scheduled to be put to sleep by making an
entry in its sleep channel.
Resolution:
When a thread is in unselect() and its state is running
(TSRUN), check if its sleep channel is set, and remove the
thread from the sleep queue so that it does not miss a
wakeup.
( SR:8606199534 CR:JAGad68721 )
The wakeup call to a thread sleeping in select(2) may be
lost on a multi-processor system under the following
conditions:
1) The thread migrates from one processor to other just
before going to sleep in select(2). This could causes the
wakeup routine to use a wrong sleep lock.
2) Multiple threads calling select(2) on the same read
channel go to sleep at the same time. This sleep collision
could be undetected within a certain time window.
Resolution:
The thread remembers the cpu on which it initially started
on, and uses this cpu id to get the sleep lock. Throughout
the life of the thread this cpu id is used even if the
thread migrated to another cpu. This resolves problems
related to thread migration. Enhancement has been made in
sleep to make it atomic, when putting the thread to sleep
and setting its sleep channel. This resolves the race
between sleep and thread collision. The patches PHNE_25084
and PHKL_25389 are required by this patch as they deliver
some of the new functionality described above.

Select(2) restarts upon receiving a signal, if SA_RESTART
has been set for the interrupting signal. When it is used
as a fast sleep/wakeup mechanism and receives the signal,
select(2) will restart with its original timeout interval.
If it receives signals periodically at the interval
shorter than its own timeout interval, select() will act
as if it never returns until the signal stops.
Resolution:
Force select(2) not to restart when it is used as a
sleep/wakeup mechanism -- when its "range of file
descriptors" parameter is 0.
( SR:8606180428 CR:JAGad49649 )
The wakeup call to a thread sleeping in select(2) may be
lost on a multi-processor system under the following
conditions:
1) The thread migrates from one processor to other just
before going to sleep in select(2). This could causes the
wakeup routine to use a wrong sleep lock.
2) Multiple threads calling select(2) on the same read
channel go to sleep at the same time. This sleep collision
could be undetected within a certain time window.
Resolution:
Added a checking mechanism to make sure there is no
migration taking place when choosing a sleep lock.
Closed the window where a sleep collision could be
undetected.

Special Installation Instructions:
You must to use SQLINSTL before running ANY new
version (later than G.0). For example, when you
go from G3.17 to G3.23, then you have to run SQLINSTL
for successful migration. The SQLINSTL script is
provided in the G.1 version of ALLBASE/SQL to make it
easy for a DBA to move to a delta release. Using
SQLINSTL ensures that you will have access to the
most recent version of the SYSTEM and CATALOG views,
and it also uses VALIDATE FORCE statements to
revalidate all stored sections.

Symptoms:
PHSS_25397:
- SR: H555003664
option "-" of dmesg is not supported any more
- SR: 8606180891
- The template default for the service name is not used.
- SR: 8606181988
the event interceptor doesn't forward on
"forward unmatched" if a "supress unmatched" condition
is used in a second template
- SR: 8606182275
need a possibility to disable the sending of an icmp
packet before commuicating with ITO 5.3 manager.
- SR: B555008838
Event correlation engine creates "Time cannot go
backwards" error if the system is very busy.
- SR: B555009155
The event correlation process opceca (agent) / opcecm
(server) might crash after processing several annotation
nodes
- SR: B555009745
The template default of the object field of a monitor
template is not used.
- SR: B555010341
Agent sometimes does not start automatically after reboot
while manual start works fine.
- SR: B555010620
Some messages are missing in the Japanese message
catalog. You get a Cannot generate message error.
- SR: B555010948
Nested alternatives were not handled correctly in the
pattern matching algorithm, e.g. the pattern '[a|b]c|d'
was handled like '[a|b|d]c'.
- SR: B555010980
Traps without a SNMP variable are not matched because
server patch adds an extra attribute to the template.
- SR: B555011505
1. opcecm/opceca might run in a dead lock while
processing lots of ECS annotate nodes
2. opcecm/opceca might leak memory when ECS annotate
nodes are used
- SR: B555011594
The original message text of a logfile encapsulator
message is wrong if <$LOGPATH> or <$LOGFILE> is used.
- SR: B555011990
ECS event log (ecevilg) has invalid time difference to
the next message which can cause the ECS simulator
to hang or appear to hang when loading an event log file
with such values.
PHSS_22967:
- Problems with allowed port range.
- Installing UNIX agents from an ITO server which has no
transition link from /bin to /usr/bin will leave a
temporay file /tmp/remsh.out and an error message in
the install.log file: ... opcping: '/bin/rm' not found
- When executing large numbers of autoactions, some of
them were staying in 'running' state.
- The opctrapi might abort with OpC30-104
- Permissions might be changed in /tmp after installing
nsp_pkg.Z(ANS) on Solaris manualy
- disk_mon.sh returns invalid values if the bdf command
returns more than one line output for a filesystem
(e.g. if the filesystem name exceeds its column width)
- The trap interceptor opctrapi dies on some large traps
- installation check for running DCE processes matches
all processes ending with 'rpcd'
PHSS_22135:
- HPlwdce installation could overwrite higher version
of HPlwdce
- ITO agent could hang during ITA synchronisation
- swap_util template does not work on Solaris 8
in japanese environment.
- Setting up a logfile template that uses a dynamic path
definition, like:
<`echo "/tmp/path with spaces/logfile1.txt"`>
This path will be handled as
three logfiles:
- /tmp/path
- with
- spaces/logfile1.txt
- RPC template distribution fails if too many ( > ~70)
templates are distributed.
- In NAT environments the distribution does not work when
an IP address is set for the system that does not
physically exists on any of its network cards.
- ITO agent startup script hangs without end if
failure occurs
PHSS_21626:
- Solaris 8 is not supported.
- Wrong permissions of /opt/OV/bin/OpC/opcagt
- Agent communicating thru firewall hangs at reboot
- Message agent sometimes buffer messages
PHSS_21055:
- opcagt -kill sometimes doesn't kill all agent processes
- wrong process could be recognized as communication deamon
on agent startup.
- opcagtmsg_send() IT/O Agent API Call leaks memory
- DCE IT/O Agent on Solaris leaks memory when
opcagtmsg_send() IT/O API is called.
- agent coredumps if OPC_INT_MSG_FLT flag set to TRUE
(in opcinfo) and tracing is enabled
PHSS_20546:
- When Solaris agent is manualy installed
/tmp/ dir permissions could be changed.
- Solaris Agent's opcmona stops sending data.
- Control agent could dump core when tracing is on.
PHSS_20199:
- Character set conversion fails on a Japanese system.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi does not correctly handle
the reconfig signal.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi tries name resolution on
segment names.
Defect Description:
PHSS_25397:
- SR: 8606182275
need a possibility to disable the sending of an icmp
packet before commuicating with ITO 5.3 manager.
In order to avoid any communication beside RPC
the opcinfo variable: OPC_RPC_ONLY can be used.
That's a boolean value where the default is set to FALSE.
- SR: B555010341
When the process ID of the 'opcctla -start' is the same
as of the running opcctla before the shutdown, the
internal logic concluded that the agent is already
running and did not start up the subprocesses.
- SR: B555010948
The grammar was changed to allow nested alternatives and
process it correctly.
- SR: B555011990

PHSS_22135:
check the list of the symptoms
PHSS_21626:
- Solaris 8 is not supported.
- Permissions of /opt/OV/bin/OpC/opcagt are causing
that every user is allowed to execute opcagt
- Stale entries are left in the mappings table after
rebooting. When agents try to start it's not detected
correctly - Control Agent hangs. Remove endpoint
database during sturtup of lightweight DCE is not
performed due to wrong path in sturtup script.
- Agent communicating thru firewall hangs at reboot
- ICMP echoes are stoped on firewall. Since opcmsga is
using ICMP echo requests, messages are buffered.
Resolution:
- Added support for Solaris 8
- /opt/OV/bin/OpC/opcagt permissions are corrected
- Lightweight DCE sturtup script was corrected,
so endpoint database is removed.
- Special keyword (OPC_ICMP_MAX_PINGS) is added , which
controls the number of ICMP requests used before
issuing RPC request. With this keyword set to 0
ICMP is not used.
PHSS_21055:
- agents pids are changed and opcctla is not awered
of this change, so it could not always kill them
- if process name contain communication deamon name
(dced, rpcd or llbd) agent startup script think
that communication deamon is running.
- opcagtmsg_send() IT/O Agent API Call leaks memory
if opcmsgi is not running
- DCE IT/O Agent on Solaris leaks memory
because of a bad usage of DCE mutexes.
- because of attempt of freeing static memory agent
coredumps.
Resolution:
- Agent pids checking is done more often.
- Exact process checking is done at agent startup.
- Fixed opcagtmsg_send() IT/O Agent API Call memory leak.
- Improper manipulation of DCE mutexes is fixed.
- Fixed improper freeing of memory
PHSS_20546:
- After opc_pkg is untared, working directory permissions
(usually /tmp) are changed.
- Solaris Agent's opcmona stops sending data.
- Control agent could dump core when tracing is on.
Resolution:
- opc_pkg is repacked so that tar does not change
permissions any more
- Fixed opcmona hanging problem.
- Fixed opcctla tracing problem.
PHSS_20199:
- Character set conversion fails on a Japanese system.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi does not correctly handle
the reconfig signal.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi tries name resolution on
segment names.
Resolution:
- Fixed the character set conversion.
- Check for reconfig each time a trap comes in.
- No name resolution is performed on segment names. They
are handled as if name service returned not resolvable.

Symptoms:
PHSS_25229:
- SR: 8606171814
itodiag.exe causes NT security event log messages on
remote PC when checking for diskspace on network drives
where the HP ITO account has no permissions to.
- SR: 8606180891
The template default for the service name is not used.
- SR: 8606181988
the event interceptor doesn't forward on
"forward unmatched" if a "supress unmatched" condition
is used in a second template
- SR: 8606182275
need a possibility to disable the sending of an icmp
packet before commuicating with ITO 5.3 manager.
- SR: 8606183491
itodiag reports wrong values for diskspace
- SR: 8606208283
The NT user privilege "Increase Quota" needs to be
assigned to the 'HP ITO account', which is not done
during the agent installation. If this is missing, the
agent may not be able to perform a full user switch with
password to a different account. This could result in
problems when executing tools or scheduled commands on
the managed node that require full network access.
- SR: B555007966
Agent installation might fail with 'Error from
InformManager' when the Management Server is a multi
homed host.
- SR: B555007980
Local automatic actions are started immediately, even
though agent MSI is enabled in divert mode and Immediate
Local Automatic Action box is not checked.
- SR: B555009155
The event correlation process opceca (agent) / opcecm
(server) might crash after processing several annotation
nodes
- SR: B555009543
NT agent installation fails, when the nodename has more
than 16 characters
- SR: B555009740
When using the agent message logging with multibyte
character messages you might get wrong formats.
- SR: B555009745
The template default of the object field of a monitor
template is not used.
- SR: B555009850
opcvterm.exe might crash with DrWatson.
- SR: B555010038
After installing SPI templates (e.g. DB SPI) and then
after reinstalling the agent, the agent may not find
commands.
- SR: B555010620
Some messages are missing in the Japanese message
catalog. You get a Cannot generate message error.
- SR: B555010791
When using MIB monitoring on a NT node with installed NNM
the process opcmona.exe might crash during agent startup.
- SR: B555011256
The agent process opcle.exe may crash on Windows 2000
nodes while monitoring the new event logs coming with
Windows 2000.
- SR: B555011422
opcragt/opcagt -stop and opcagt -kill might fail
when a subagent process can't be killed or stopped
- SR: B555011497
Trap interceptor aborts after reboot - can't open SNMP
session
- SR: B555011594
The original message text of a logfile encapsulator
message is wrong if <$LOGPATH> or <$LOGFILE> is used.
- SR: B555011979
Pattern matching hangs if only single byte Japanese
HANKAKU KANA characters are used.
- SR: B555011990
ECS event log (ecevilg) has invalid time difference to
the next message which can cause the ECS simulator
to hang or appear to hang when loading an event log file
with such values.
PHSS_22576:
- Automatic Actions can't start applications that display a
user interface.
- Event Interceptor aborts after getting traps with
unresolvable IP address.
- Event Interceptor aborts when running on an NNM system
and an invalid trap is received.
- The Event Interceptor might get into a looping state when
running on an NNM system and the ovtrapd is stopped.
- Multiple issues with the agent on MS Terminal Server
systems running on NT 4.0.
- Perl script might show strange behavior when called
as monitor.
- Agent has to run as 'HP ITO account' user.
PHSS_22003:
- ITO requires the setting of all IP addresses in
opc.hosts for NT multi homed hosts.
- When calling an application as non-administrative user,
there is a window coming up: Initialization of dynamic
load library c:\winnt\system32\user32. dll failed. the
nthost. exe tool help, but it is required after each
start of the system.
- When using the application opcprfls. exe to list the
available performance monitoring objects on an NT system
not all objects are enumerated.
- Setting up a logfile template that uses a dynamic path
definition, like:
<`echo "/tmp/path with spaces/logfile1.txt"`>
This path will be handled as
three logfiles:
- /tmp/path
- with
- spaces/logfile1.txt
- In NAT environments the distribution does not work when
an IP address is set for the system that does not
physically exists on any of its network cards.
- In NAT environments it might make sense to set the
OPC_IP_ADDRESS to an address which does not exists on
any of the system's netword cards. This causes some
problems:
- control agent immediatly aborts
- 'opcagt -status' claims the agent is down even if
it's running
- RPC template distribution fails if too many ( > ~70)
templates are distributed.
- The monitor agent might abort when checking the
queuesize of the message agent queue.
- Some NT EventLog entries are incompletly reported to the
Management Server.
- The control agent aborts when the /usr/OV/tmp/OpC/bin
directory does not exist.
- The installation aborts with the NetGetDCName API
failing: network path not found.
- The event correlation agent might abort.
- In some situations the the source IP address of an
incoming trap has the wrong byte ordering.
- When there are many quickly incoming traps, the Event
Interceptor does not handle them but instead buffers
until there are new traps arriving.
- After distributing of templates to NT system, sometimes
there is a message in the errorlog about failures while
suspending threads.
PHSS_21008:
- ITO NT agent does not support MS Windows 2000
- There are no default templates for MS Terminal Server /
Citrix MetaFrame.
- The ITO setup process might run into problems when the
installation takes place from a write protected media.
- The ITO Action agent might grow in memory usage when many
automatic actions are running.
- On systems with more than 2GB of physical memory, the
itodiag tool does not report the correct memory size, but
only showed 2GB. This is only fixed on Windows 2000,
because Microsoft didn't fix the API call on Windows NT.
- The ITO Event Correlation agent might get into a state
of queuing messages instead of processing them.
- The ITO Transfer Manager (opctranm) fails to transfer
a request to an NT node that has a mgrconf file installed.
PHSS_20486:
- MS Terminal Server / Citrix MetaFrame was not supported.
- The ITO Monitor agent sometimes aborts.
- During the ITO agent installation using the opc_inst.bat
scripts, unwanted output is printed when unpacking
libnsp.
- Using the itodiag.exe tool very often might cause the NT
system to become unusable and require a reboot.
- The ITO Event interceptor aborts when receiving a trap
with a variable of the SNMPv2 type 'counter64'.
- The ITO Event interceptor aborts after receiving a trap
with the ASN variable type 'null'.
- The ITO Event interceptor might abort.
- The ITO Action agent executed a switch user even if the
requested user is the 'HP ITO account'.
- The tool itouser.exe might abort while printing the
userlist when more than 19 users/services are logged on
to the system.
- On systems that have the McAfee virusscanner installed,
after reboot sometimes the agent has problems reading the
opcinfo file and will fail. Later startups of the agent
succeed.
- Pattern matching does not work correctly on a Japanese
system.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi does not correctly handle
the reconfig signal.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi tries name resolution on
segment names.
- The trap interceptor opctrapi dies on some large
traps.
Defect Description:
PHSS_25229:
- SR: 8606171814
A new command line option "/nonwdrives" is added for
itodiag.exe. When sepcifying this option for itodiag.exe
it doesn't collect information about name, file system
and total and free disk space of any mapped network
drive.
- SR: 8606208283
When the user 'HP ITO Account' (or any other
user set that the agent runs as) does not have the
privilege "Increase Quotas" and also the group does not
have, the agent can't perform a full switch user with
password check. The privilege is now assigned to the
agent user during agent installation time.
- SR: B555010038
When SPIs change the environment variable PATH in the
way that by adding (for example) \usr\OV\bin\OpC\test or
similar this path is changed/removed during the
(de)installation of the agent.
Now the set-up program searches for the complete path
correctly ended so that it doesn't overwrite or remove
the wrong paths.
- SR: B555010948
The grammar was changed to allow nested alternatives and
process it correctly.
- SR: B555011497
The trap interceptor may abort during a reboot of a
Windows NT/Windows 2000 node with the message "can't
open SNMP session". The reason is that the SNMP service
just takes to long to start.
Now the agent waits at maximum 30 seconds for the SNMP
service to start till this error message is generated.
for SR's not listed in this section please see
the list of symptoms
PHSS_22576:
- The ITO agent can now run as non 'HP ITO account' user.
This also includes the 'SYSTEM' account.
Installation instruction:
Use the manual installation. Before calling the
'opc_inst.bat' script, an additional entry can be added to
the 'opcsetup.inf' file to specify the run user for the
agent:
[Agent User]
SYSTEM
Instead of 'SYSTEM', any other name could be specified. In
this case the user account is created.
If 'SYSTEM' is given, no user account is created (no
'opc_op' either).
NOTE: User names may not contain space characters.
If a user name is specified in 'opcsetup.inf', the agent
will be installed using this account name, no matter if
there was already an agent installed using another
account.
If a different user is specified in 'opcsetup.inf', the
account created by the existing agent is not removed but
left on the system. It has to be removed manually.
If no user name is specified in 'opcsetup.inf', the
installation will check if there is already an agent
installed. If it finds one, the same user will be used.
If a user is specified or found to be used by an old
agent, and the password specified was not correct for this
account, the user is removed and re-created. It has the
same name afterwards but a different internal user ID.
Applications:
-------------
- All applications configured to run as 'opc_op' or
'HP ITO account' have to be changed to specify a user
that exists on the system.
- All monitoring executables will be run as the specified
account. This might restrict some of the access rights
to monitored applications.
- The 'SYSTEM' account does not have any network access
capabilities.
Remote installation:
--------------------
- On Domain Controllers there is the Installation Server
service that executes the installation on remote systems
in this domain. If this service is modified to run as
'SYSTEM', the remote installation is not possible at all
(the 'SYSTEM' account does not have any access rights
for remote systems).
- If remote execution is wanted, the Installation Server
service can be configured to run as a domain user that
has Domain Admin user rights.
PHSS_22003:
check the list of the symptoms
PHSS_21008:
check the list of the symptoms
Resolution:
- The ITO agent is now supported on MS Windows 2000.
The following versions are supported:
MS Windows 2000 Professional 5.0
MS Windows 2000 Server 5.0
Also supported on MS Windows 2000:
MS Terminal Server
Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 English
(Refer to documentation below: PHSS_20485/6)
The same character sets are supported as documented for
MS Windows NT:
English Management Server:
OEM Code page 850
OEM Code page 437
ANSI Code page 1252
ASCII
Japanese Management Server:
ANSI Code page 932
ASCII
Notes:
- To install the default templates for MS Windows 2000,
the following command has to be executed on the ITO
management server after installation of this patch:
opccfgupld -add -subentity Win2000
Note: The templates can be uploaded to a Japanese
management server, but they are not localized.
The template group 'Default' contains the new group
'Windows 2000'. This group contains the following
templates:
opcmsg(1|3)
dflt_ApplEvLog (NT)
dflt_SecEvLog (NT)
dflt_SysEvLog (NT)
dflt_cpu_util_NT
The templates listed above are linked to the templates
in the 'Windows NT' template group.
dflt_DNSEvLog (2000)
dflt_DirectoryEvLog (2000)
dflt_FileReplicationEvLog (2000)
These three templates are new default templates for
the additional EventLogs that exist on the Windows
2000 Server system.
- If you want to assign the monitor template
'dflt_disk_util_NT' of the 'Windows NT' group to a
Windows 2000 system, execute the following command on
the system. The system must then be rebooted to activate
disk performance montoring of the operating system:
diskperf -y
- When removing the ITO agent from a Windows 2000 Domain
Controller the setup program might report an error
message:
The call to the NT API function 'NetUserDel (1)' for
'HP ITO account' failed with the following system
error: Access is denied.
This is caused by a Windows 2000 specific setup of the
access-control list in Active Directory.
As a workaround, manually remove the user account.
- To install the default templates for MS Terminal Server /
Citrix MetaFrame, the following command has to be executed
on the ITO management server after installation of this
patch:
opccfgupld -add -subentity TS_MF
Note: The templates can be uploaded to a Japanese
management server, but they are not localized.
The template group 'Default' contains the new group
'Terminal Server/MetaFrame'. This group contains the
following template groups:
MetaFrame
Terminal Server
Assign the 'Terminal Server' template group to systems
running the MS Terminal Server. Assign the 'MetaFram'
template group to systems running MS Terminal Server and
Citrix MetaFrame.
The new templates are:
TS_Licensing
Checks if the Terminal Server licensing service is
running
TS_Service
Checks if the Terminal Server service is running
System log (Terminal Server)
Template for Terminal Server events in the System
EventLog
MF_ICA_Browser
Checks if the MetaFrame ICA browser service is
running
MF_Prog_Neighborhood
Checks if the MetaFrame ICA Program Neighborhood
service is running
System Log (MetaFrame)
Template for MetaFrame events in the System EventLog
There is a new application group 'MetaFrame Tools'. It
contains the following applications:
Sessions
Lists open MF sessions
Users
Lists connected users on MF Server
Servers
Lists available MF Servers
Auditlog
Generates logon/logoff report
ACL Info
Shows information about user rights
Disconnect
Disconnects a terminal session
Flush
Synchronizes disk data
Send Message
Sends message to ICA client users
Processes
Lists processes on MF server
License
Shows information about license
PHSS_20486:
- The ITO agent is now supported on Terminal Server/
MetaFrame servers:
The following versions are supported:
MS Terminal Server NT 4.0 ServicePack 4 English
Citrix MetaFrame 1.8 English
Only the server part is supported. The ITO agent on
Terminal Server/ MetaFrame clients is not supported.
After the installation of an ITO agent on a Terminal
Server / MetaFrame system, the ITO installation logfile
is located in c:\temp, if c:\temp actually exists. If it
doesn't exist, the inst.log file is located in the
directory from where the installation was started.
The standard diskspace monitor may cause problems, if
the c: drive does not exist.
- Fixed bug in the multi byte character set handling.
- Check for reconfig each time a trap comes in.
- No name resolution is performed on segment names. They
are handled as if name service returned not resolvable.
- Increased buffer size for trap formatting.

Special Installation Instructions:
BEFORE LOADING THIS PATCH...
o You may use this patch with the following official
ITO release: A.05.30
o DO NOT use this patch with older releases of ITO,
for example versions A.05.00 or A.05.11.
o This patch provides the HP OV IT/Operations
Intelligent Agent to be used with a
ITO A.05.30 Management Server system.
(A) Patch Installation Instructions
-------------------------------
(A1) Install the patch, following the standard
installation instructions.
------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: For backing up the system before installing
a patch, you may use opc_backup(1m).
NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT NO AGENT OF THE PLATFORM
ADDRESSED BY THIS PATCH IS DISTRIBUTED
(either from the ITO Administrator's GUI
or from command line using inst.sh) WHILE
RUNNING SWINSTALL.
NOTE: Don't be afraid of the '-x autoreboot=true'
option above. There won't be a reboot due
to this ITO patch.
You can skip this option if you like.
NOTE: This patch must be installed on the ITO Management
Server system, NOT on an ITO Managed Node directly.
Changes will take effect on managed nodes by means of
ITO Software Distribution (using 'Force Update' if
there is already an agent installed on the managed
node). See chapter 2 of the ITO Administrator's
Reference manual for more information.
- To install the default templates for MS Windows 2000,
the following command has to be executed on the ITO
management server after installation of this patch:
opccfgupld -add -subentity Win2000
The templates can be uploaded to a Japanese
management server, but they are not localized.
- If you want to assign the monitor template
'dflt_disk_util_NT' of the 'Windows NT' group to a
Windows 2000 system, execute the following command on
the system. The system must then be rebooted to
activate disk performance montoring of the operating
system:
diskperf -y
- To install the default templates for MS Terminal
Server / Citrix MetaFrame, the following command has
to be executed on the ITO management server after
installation of this patch:
opccfgupld -add -subentity TS_MF
The templates can be uploaded to a Japanese
management server, but they are not localized.
(B) Patch Deinstallation Instructions
---------------------------------
(B1) To deinstall the patch PHSS_25229 run swremove:
NOTE: MAKE SURE THAT NO AGENT OF THE PLATFORM
ADDRESSED BY THIS PATCH IS DISTRIBUTED (either
from the ITO Administrator's GUI or from
command line using inst.sh) WHILE RUNNING
SWREMOVE.

Symptoms:
PHSS_25105:
The following features, fixes and enhancements
appear in server firmware revision 4138:
1. - 1GB DIMMs have been produced with 2
different refresh rates, both types
are usable in L-Class and N-Class
servers however, the newer DIMMs
that have a faster refresh rate
could not be used in the same DIMM pair
as the older DIMMs. PDC 41.38 allows
the DIMMs to mixed in the same
DIMM pair.
2. - Added support for 2GB FC boot.
3. - Enabled slot 3 for internal RAID.
4. - Added support for internal RAID.
5. - Added support for PCI-PCI Bridge boot.
6. - Added support for Ultra 160 SCSI boot.
7. - Added 'SCROLL' command to BCH Service Menu.
8. - Added FRU location to FRU id values.
9. - An issue has been identified with the OLAR
functionality on L-Class
servers running HPUX 11.11 PDC revision
41.38 corrects the issue.
PHSS_23446:
Added support for model strings 9000/800/L1000-5X and
9000/800/L2000-5X to the firmware update utility.
PHSS_22656:
The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in
server firmware revision 40.48:
1. Provide support for L1000 and L2000 revision B models
(L1000B & L2000B)
2. Provide OLA/R support
3. PDC did not report overtemperature warning to HP-UX
4. GSP 'ps' command shows 1220W for power supply
5. Graphics board shows up as 'unknown' in PDC "in io"
command
6. PDC 'in io' identifies RAID card inappropriately
7. PDC revision now appears in HPMC tombstones
8. Hitting 'break' key on ASCII terminal while at PDC
causes IODC error
9. PDC 'ser pn' only displays first 5 digits of current
product number value
10. Increase the list of FRU_ID values recognized by PDC
11. PDC call PDC_PAT_COMPLET subfun 6 (get cabinet info)
fails repeatedly with -3
12. PDC must not be case sensative to FRU_ID values.
Detailed Explanation:
1. Self explanatory
2. L1000 and L2000 revision A models require PDC 40.48
and HP-UX 11.11 to enable the high availability OLA/R
feature. OLA/R stands for OnLine Addition Removal
and replacement of PCI cards.
3. Partial implementation of this fix appeared in PDC
40.14. When an overtemp shutdown occurred, PDC
notified HP-UX so it could perform an orderly
shutdown. However,
an overtemp chassis log was not created. With
PDC 40.48, a chassis log is created.
4. GSP 'ps' command reported the 930W L-Class power
supplies as "1220W". Fix is to report L-Class power
supplies as "Type 0".
5. A6150-60001 L-Class 2-D Graphics board reported as
'unknown' in PDC "in io" command. Fix is to report as
TBD.
6. Several PCI cards were not listed int the PCI
current lookup table and appeared as unknown when
using the BCH command in io. Added new PCI cards to
the lookup table.
7. The firmware revision did not appear in tombstone
printouts, added PDC rev in the tombstone output.
8. At PDC main menu, pressing the Break key on the web
console or power cycling the console caused an
unrecoverable IODC error. The PDC error handling
routines were changed to properly handle these
occurances.
9. When the BCH command ser pn was executed only the
first 5 characters of the product were displayed.
Changed the ser pn command to display 6 characters.
10. PDC 40.19 did not recognise FRU ID's of newer
revisions of replacement parts. PDC 40.48 now
correctly identifies all of the newer revisions of
replacement parts.
11. The PDC subroutine PDC_PAT_COMPLET subfun 6 did not
poll the power monitor or other PDH hardware properly
this caused EMS to report errors. PDC 40.48 firmware
correctly poll all PDH hardware so EMS will report
correct status.
12. When installing new system boards with a5191-67001 in
the PART NUMBER field of the FRU_ID the model string
changes from 9000/800/Lx00-44 to 9000/800/Lx00-36.
Changed PDC 40.48 to be insensitive to the case of
PART NUMBER entries.
The following issues have been addressed and corrected with
PDC firmware revision 40.26:
1. Server firmware revision 40.19 only recognizes
A5191-60001 as a valid part number entry within FRU_ID
of the system board. Any other value causes the
following symptoms common to 360MHz and 440MHz CPUS:
- Each CPU reports a 17D0 system alert during selftest.
17D0 indicates an "INVALID_SYS_BOARD_PART_NUM".
- The following server firmware warning is generated:
WARNING: Invalid processor clock chip setting.
The following symptoms are unique to servers with 440MHz
CPUs installed:
- Server firmware identifies 440MHz CPUs as 360MHz CPUs.
- The server model string will change from
9000/800/Lx000-44 9000/800/Lx000-36 (where x = 1 or 2).
NOTE: The server hardware is actually running 440MHz.
- The HP-UX clock gains approximately 15 minutes/hour.
2. An HPMC may occur as a result of performing a TOC
(Transfer Of Control).
The following issue has been addressed and corrected with
PDC firmware 40.19:
1. Systems with PDC revision 40.14 may experience a system
panic or system hang in response to the HP-UX command
'shutdown -h' .
The following features, fixes and enhancements appear in
PDC revision 40.14:
1. Increase maximum memory size for L1000 from 4GB to 8GB
2. Support 1GB DIMM (2GB memory module)
3. PDC did not report overtemperature warning to the OS
4. BCH recognizes only the abbreviated version of some
commands
5. New chassis code for invalid system board FRU_ID part
number
6. Hardware paths for devices below a PCI-to-PCI bridge
are displayed incorrectly
7. Firmware Version displays single digit week (i.e. 40.6
rather than 40.06)
8. BCH does not display help text for some commands
9. Change alert level for fatal (fails selftest/prevents
boot) DIMM loading alert from 8 to 15
10. Change alert level for deconfigured CPUs from 6 to 2 &
change problem detail from 3 to 8 (for iCOD)
11. New version of PCI bus adapter (Elroy 4.0) fully
supported.
12. The firmware LPMC handler has been modified to properly
manage a LPMC as to not cause an HPMC in systems running
with multiple processors.

Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_24702
Symptoms:
PHCO_24702:
1.at(1) aborts with "rc=2" error when processing multi-byte
characters if 'atjobs' script contain expressions to set
the locale to a multi-byte locale.
PHCO_22767:
1.crontab(1) incorrect functionality .
2.When DST shift is due before the scheduled time, at(1)
does not schedule the jobs correctly.
3.at(1) incorrect argument parsing.
4.In trusted mode, crontab(1) does not create correct
audit record.
PHCO_21494:
1. For jobs scheduled for 31st of a month, Cron starts
looping on the last day of the month if the month
has 30 days.
2. at(1) reports "bad date specification" when specifying
four digits time.
PHCO_19986:
1. at now + [n] months ignores leap year.
2. crontab(1) -e creates crontab job files
with incorrect permissions.
3. at(1) manpage needs to be modified.
4. Patches for cron(1M) should stop cron and
start the new cron.
5. at(1) assumes the given time to be AM if the am_pm
string in the specified locale is NULL.
PHCO_17553:
at(1) does not accept input of "00" or "0" for year
for all locales.
PHCO_16942:
1. On trusted systems, cron(1) has slower performance due
to calling getspwent() when getspwnam() should have
been used.
2. at(1) does not recognize year 00 (2000). When year
is input as 00, at(1) exits with the error message -
"bad date specification"
PHCO_15235:
Year displayed in two digits
PHCO_14780:
1. crontab creates files with improper permissions.
2. at creates an invalid file in /var/spool/cron when
given a non-existant job file with the -f option.
Defect Description:
PHCO_24702:
1. at(1) creates 'atjobs' scripts for executing batched
commands at a later time. But at(1) causes execution
error, when 'atjobs' scripts contain expressions to set
the LC_CTYPE to a multi-byte locale. For example: if
the atjob script has the following expressions:
setenv LANG ja_JP.SJIS
setenv AAA xxxx
at -t 03261500 << EOF./test1.sh
EOF
Where "xxxx" is Japanese character and it is SJIS
Code '0x93609197'.
'atjobs' script is created in /var/spool/cron/atjobs
after above command. But when the above job is scheduled,
at(1) aborts with "rc=2" error. The log file
/var/adm/cron/log will contain the above error.
Resolution:
/usr/bin/sh does not handle the change in LC_CTYPE in the
same session. This behavior of sh-posix(1) is as per the
requirements of POSIX standards. The man page documentation
of sh-posix(1) also states this behavior. sh-posix(1) man
page states the following:
"Changing the value of LC_CTYPE after the shell has
started does not affect the lexical processing of shell
commands in the current shell execution environment or
its subshells. See environ(5)."
As the above job involves changing the LC_CTYPE,
at(1) used to process the data in the previous set
locales resulting in error.
at(1) is modified to take care of these environment
Variables. Now, When scheduling 'atjobs' involving
multibyte locales, at(1) inserts a new shell session
in the 'atjobs' file, if it encounters any of LC_ALL,
LC_CTYPE and LANG settings.
PHCO_22767:
1. crontab(1) incorrect functionality.
Resolution:
Code has been modified to take care of this issue.
2. When DST shift is due, there will be a non-existing
time in a day. When jobs are scheduled for such
non-existing times through commands like -
at now + <offset> minutes, at may fails with message
"too late" .
Resolution:
Now the code has been modified to take care of
jobs scheduled for non-existing times.
3. at(1) incorrect argument parsing.
Resolution:
The code is modified to take care of this.
4. In trusted mode, crontab(1) does not create audit
records because required data is not generated by
the underlying library call.
Resolution:
Appropriate calls to get audit ids are used to
resolve the problem.
PHCO_21494:
1. A job scheduled for 31st of a month starts looping
on the last day of the month incase the month does
not have 31 days (Looping also happens for jobs
scheduled for 29th and 30th of Feb incase of non-leap
years and for jobs scheduled for 30th of Feb incase
of leap years).
This erroneous behaviour is due to an unnecessary day
comparison introduced for DST fix.
Resolution:
Now the day comparison made in cron has been commented
out to fix the problem.
2. The problem is because at(1) is parsing extra
characters other than the time string (for eg.
characters from date string), thus, giving the error
message "bad date specification".
Resolution:
The fix is to set the END OF TIME(EOT) to 1 after
parsing time string such that the unnecessary parsing
of the date string is not done.
PHCO_19986:
1. Setting the system date such that the day is any day
after 28th and executing the at(1) command to schedule
the job for the month of February in a leap year,
schedules the job incorrectly. The following
shows the incorrect behaviour of at(1).
$ date 1229084495
date: do you really want to run time backwards?
[yes/no]yes
Fri Dec 29 08:44:00 EST 1995
$ at now + 2 month
warning: commands will be executed using /usr/bin/sh
job 825687848.a at Fri Mar 1 08:44:08 1996
at(1) should have scheduled the job for Feb 29.
Instead it is scheduling the job for Mar 1.
2. crontab when used with -e creates the job files
with read permission for all.
3. The manpage of at(1) needs to be more clear
regarding the ambiguity of dates.
4. The cron(1M) patches do not stop the old cron daemon
and start the new cron daemon. The starting and
stopping of the daemon does not correctly work in the
swinstall scripts since the signal mask of the cron
daemon gets modified through SD scripts.
5. For certain locales like fr_FR.iso88591, where am_pm
string is defined as null ("";""), at(1) treats the
specified time to be AM. The following illustrates

job 879447600.a at Jeudi 13 november 1997 20:00:00
$ echo date | at 20:00 demain # BUG
Hours Field Is Invalid
Resolution:
1. Checking for the leap year before scheduling the
job, solves the problem.
2. The crontab command was relying on a macro for
permissions on the job file. This macro was incorrect.
This has been set right now. Now, crontab(1) creates
job files with read permission only for the owner.
3. Necessary changes are made to the at(1) manpage to
solve this problem.
4. Resetting the signal handlers in cron to their
respective defaults solves the problem.
5. Checking for the value of am_pm string for the locale
solves the problem.
PHCO_17553:
at(1) treats year input of 00 or 0 as incorrect when
locale is set to one which defines D_T_FMT (date-time)
string to have year in fields other than the third.
For eg. japanese locale defines the date string to
be of format yy/mm/dd. With locale set to japanese,
an attempt to schedule a job using at(1) for a date
00/12/20 or 0/12/20 fails.
Resolution:
at(1) assumed that the year field can be only in the
third field of the date string. This assumption has been
removed. Also, the function which returned error if the
date string had 0 or 00 in the first or second fields
has been changed not to check and return error for such
a condition. Now, at(1) accepts input of 0 or 00 for year
in any field of the date string, as specified by D_T_FMT
string for the locale.
PHCO_16942:
1. On trusted systems, cron(1) called getspwent() which
performs a linear search in the passwd database, instead
of getspwnam() which performs a keyed search.
2. at(1) treats year input of 00 as incorrect. Following
shows how at(1) behaves with 00 as input year.
# at 12:00 1 Jan 00
bad date specification
The command has been changed to accept 00 as year
2000.
After the fix, at(1) treats year input of 00 as
year 2000 and does not show any error messages.
PHCO_15235:
Year displayed in two digits
PHCO_14780:
1. The problem consists of the creation of a
temporary file for "crontab -e".The file
is created with improper permissions.
The write permission should exist only
for the owner of the calling process.
2. At fails to clean up the file created under
/var/spool/cron when invoked with -f option and
non-existant job file.

PHKL_25614: CORRUPTION PANIC ABORT
JAGad62420: a process with a private 3rd quadrant
can obtain an erroneous address when calling mmap(2)
for a large mapping ( size > 1 GB). The erroneous
address can match an already existing address for
that process. If this is the case, subsequent use
of this address could lead to corruption of data
already at that address, as now 2 pointers with
different meaning refer to the same block of data.
The corruption is limited to the own address space
of the process, and possibly files mapped by the
process.
The corruption is limited to the calling process
address space, and will not affect system or other
process memory.

Symptoms:
PHKL_25614:
( SR:8606193208 CR:JAGad62420 )
A 32 bit process with the 3rd quadrant private (obtained
with the command chattr +q3 enable) can obtain an incorrect
address when requesting a large (~1 GB) mapping with the
mmap(2) call.
Observed symptoms are :
-process aborted because of a memory fault
(signals SIGBUS or SIGSEGV).
-corruption of the memory for the calling process,
including files that are mapped in memory by the process.
System memory and memory from other processes are not
impacted.
( SR:8606212954 CR:JAGad82141 )
When a 32 bit process uses mmap64(2) to mmap(2) a large file
on a 64 bit kernel, if the offset is bigger than 4 GB, the
call returns EINVAL.
( SR:8606188767 CR:JAGad57983 )
Applications requiring large amounts of private memory
address space (greater than 2GB) may use shared memory space
to offset their private memory space needs. This is done by
using the mmap(2) flags:
MAP_ANONYMOUS|MAP_GLOBAL|MAP_SHARED.
Even with this effort to conserve private memory space,
these applications are running out of private memory space.
A close examination shows that allocations intended for
shared space were put into private memory space in error.
( SR:8606205797 CR:JAGad74972 )
A panic "Returning ID that is already free" may occur as a
result of a process (proc A) calling mmap(2) with MAP_FIXED
and an address that overlaps with an existing text mapping.
This will result in a panic in one of the following ways:
(1) Panic occurs when process proc A exits.
(2) The process proc A does a munmap(2) of the previous
mmap(2) (as mentioned above) and subsequent mmap(2)
calls from any process (proc X) get assigned the same
address. When process proc X exits (case 1) the panic
occurs.
A stack trace may look similar to the following:

Memory corruption may occur after the installation of
PHKL_24679.
PHKL_24679:
( SR:8606201639 CR:JAGad70813 )
The system takes a lot of time in creating a large number of
threads. The cost of creating threads increases
exponentially as the number of threads increases and so the
system appears to be very slow when one tries to create a
lot of threads.
PHKL_25227:
( SR:8606188435 CR:JAGad57643 )
Narrow mode (32bit) HP-UX 11.11 programs cannot mmap64() any
part of a large file beyond the first 2GB.
PHKL_24743:
( SR:8606205558 CR:JAGad74733 ) Duplicate
( SR:8606204858 CR:JAGad74036 )
Decreased performance for mmap() operations has occasionally
been observed in superdome systems with more than 32 cpus.
These symptoms are not specific to superdomes, but could
possibly occur on other high end systems as well.
PHKL_24073:
( SR:8606189205 CR:JAGad58421 )
A multi-threaded process hangs and cannot be killed. This
process will have been repeatedly mmap()ing parts of the
same file, while at the same time reading or writing to it
with the read(), write(), readv(), or writev() system calls
from a different thread. That file must also be on a JFS
file system.
The Netscape Messaging Server's smtpd process is the only
application we've seen do the particular combination of
operations required to get into this state.
Defect Description:
PHKL_25614:
( SR:8606193208 CR:JAGad62420 )
On 64 bit systems, calls to mmap(2) by 32 bit processes with
sizes in the range of 1 GB or greater cause the allocation
algorithm to allocate a segment in the 64 bit address space
instead of the 32 bit address space. The 64 bit address is
truncated to 32 bits on return to the 32 bit calling
process. The cause of this error is an incorrect boundaries
checking in the allocation algorithm. When using a
debugger, one can observe a 64 bit segment in the process
address space.
Resolution:
The allocation algorithm now checks boundary conditions
correctly, producing a correct memory address.
( SR:8606212954 CR:JAGad82141 )
One kernel structure associated with the mapped file is
based on the type of the process address space. Thus a 32
bit process creates a 32 bit mapped file kernel structure.
The kernel structure should be independent from the type of
the calling process.
Resolution:
The creation of the kernel structure associated with a mmap
file has been made independent from the type of the process.
( SR:8606188767 CR:JAGad57983 )
The mmap(2) system call ignores the MAP_GLOBAL flag when
used in combination with the MAP_SHARED and MAP_ANONYMOUS
flags.
Resolution:
Checking for the MAP_GLOBAL option in mmap(2) when the
MAP_ANONYMOUS and MAP_SHARED flags are used. The allocation
is then made from the appropriate quadrant.
( SR:8606205797 CR:JAGad74972 )
This panic results from trying to free the same ID twice as
a result of the system allowing a mapping that overlaps with
an existing mapping of text.
Resolution:
mmap(2) calls with addresses that overlap with existing text
mappings will now fail.
PHKL_25129:
( SR:8606215349 CR:JAGad84536 )
In one corner case the fix for "PHKL_24679" overwrites some
memory beyond the allocated limit for an internal data
structure.
Resolution:
Overwriting of memory is fixed by checking for a corner
case.
PHKL_24679:
( SR:8606201639 CR:JAGad70813 )
When ever a range of virtual address space is allocated for
a thread the OS always searches for a hole from the highest
possible address so as to give maximum possible space for
the heap to grow. When large number of threads are created
and all space in the proximity of the highest address is
occupied it takes a while before the search could get a
hole of required size, which slows down the thread creation
process.
Resolution:
The fix to the problem is to keep a hint for starting the
search next time so we do not have to start always from the
highest address.
PHKL_25227:
( SR:8606188435 CR:JAGad57643 )
The kernel code was limited by design to allow narrow
mode mmap64() to 2GB or less only.
Resolution:
The kernel was enhanced to remove this limitation. Narrow
mode mmap64() can now map up to 4GB.
PHKL_24743:
( SR:8606205558 CR:JAGad74733 ) Duplicate
( SR:8606204858 CR:JAGad74036 )
Unnecessary acquisition and release of region locks in
common execution paths can cause unpredictable performance
degradation.
Resolution:
ltered code path to minimize frequency of region
lock/release in procedures mmap_file_pieces() and
mmap_file_object(). Note that this is only one of the
causes for unpredictable performance degradation in mmap.
PHKL_24073:
( SR:8606189205 CR:JAGad58421 )
This problem was caused by a lock ordering problem between
VM and JFS. JFS can call VM while holding an inode lock;
the routines called may require a vas lock. VM can call JFS
while holding a vas lock; the routines called may require
an inode lock. If we get unlucky, we hit the same vas/inode
lock combination from both directions, and the threads
deadlock. Because the vas lock potentially held by VM is
a per process resource, this situation can only be
encountered by a multithreaded process.
Resolution:
The fix is to have the VM routine drop the vas lock before
calling the file system code; fortunately, the VM routine
can safely drop and reacquire the lock around the call ...
it was mostly holding it to avoid dropping and reacquiring
it repeatedly in a loop.

Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_24703
Symptoms:
PHCO_24703:
sccs(1) command exits with Usage message
"Usage: sccs [-r] [-d pathname] [-p pathname]
command [flags] [file ...]"
if the pathname argument to -p and -d options
is name of an sccs(1) command name.
PHCO_17076:
sccs val is not completely Y2K safe. Due to a
memory corruption, sccs val used to issue an
error message if reused on the same input file.
PHCO_16253:
Patch PHCO_15172 for sccs is not Y2K safe. Archive
files created before the year 2000 are not usable in
year 2000 using sccs val. After setting the system
clock to a date beyond 1999 if val is used on a file
created before year 2000 then, sccs val displays the
following error message -
"s.abc: corrupted SCCS file delta creation date out
of sequence or in the future (val2) "
PHCO_15217:
Year displayed in two digits
PHCO_13332:
SCCS(1) problems with comments,date,time
and version numbers.
Defect Description:
PHCO_24703:
sccs(1) does not allow any valid sccs command
name as an argument to -d and -p options.
For example:
sccs -d admin -p mydir admin -iadmin/file file
or
sccs -d mydir -p admin admin -iadmin/file file
exits with Usage message.
"sccs [-r] [-d pathname] [-p pathname] command
[flags] [file ...]"
Resolution:
The problem was due to incorrect parsing of
arguments in -p and -d options of the command.
Now the problem is rectified and these options
accepts any sccs command name as argument.
PHCO_17076:
sccs val is not completely Y2K safe. Due to a
memory corruption sccs val used to issue an error
message if reused on the same input file.
After setting the system clock to a date beyond
1999, if val is used on a file created before year
2000 then, sccs val executes correctly the first
time, but if sccs val is used a second time with the
same input file for example "s.abc" then it displays
the following error message - "s.abc: corrupted
SCCS file delta creation date out of sequence or in
the future (val2) ".
Resolution:
This was due to a memory corruption problem.
This has been rectified by introducing a "memset()"
call.
After the patch has been applied sccs val should not
issue any error messages.
PHCO_16253:
Patch PHCO_15172 for sccs is not Y2K safe. Archive
files created before the year 2000 are not usable in
year 2000 using sccs val. After setting the system
clock to a date beyond 1999 if val is used on a file
created before year 2000 then, sccs val displays the
following error message -
"s.abc: corrupted SCCS file delta creation date out
of sequence or in the future (val2) "
sccs val does not seem to realize that the year "00"
is later than "98". The above mentioned problem was
because the function being used to compare two date
strings was incorrect. This has been rectified now.
After the patch has been applied sccs val should not
issue any error messages.
PHCO_15217:
Year displayed in two digits
PHCO_13332:
sccs comb() has the following problems.
.The comments are messed up.
.versions are renumbered.
