1. Back up your system before installing a patch.
2. Login as root.
3. Copy the patch to the /tmp directory.
4. Move to the /tmp directory and unshar the patch:
cd /tmp
sh PHSS_27767
5a. For a standalone system, run swinstall to install the
patch:
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -x match_target=true \
-s /tmp/PHSS_27767.depot
By default swinstall will archive the original software in
/var/adm/sw/patch/PHSS_27767. If you do not wish to retain a
copy of the original software, you can create an empty file
named /var/adm/sw/patch/PATCH_NOSAVE.
WARNING: If this file exists when a patch is installed, the
patch cannot be deinstalled. Please be careful
when using this feature.
It is recommended that you move the PHSS_27767.text file to
/var/adm/sw/patch for future reference.
To put this patch on a magnetic tape and install from the
tape drive, use the command:
dd if=/tmp/PHSS_27767.depot of=/dev/rmt/0m bs=2k
Special Installation Instructions:
1) After installing this patch deploy actions, monitors,
commands with force update option on all managed nodes.
2) For ORACLE SPI users only:
Metrics 0016 and 0216 were rewrited to use low level table
in order to improve performance.
- If you use a Oracle user, which was created
by Application "Create Oracle User", then you should
recreate this user.
- If you use system user for DBSPI and your database
contains locally managed tablespaces then you should
do the following grant as the sys user:
"grant execute on sys.dbms_space_admin to system"
- You do not need to do it, if you use sys user
for DBSPI.
3) For users ORACLE SPI A.05.00.00 and earlier only:
DESCRIPTION:
With this patch, metric 216 has changed from a Maximum
metric to a Minimum metric. For this reason, if the
existing template is not modified, alarms will not occur
until the number of extents for the segment drops
to zero (0).
HOW TO FIX:
- The threshold type of the monitor DBSPI-0216 must be
changed from a "Maximum" to "Minimum".
- The condition "DBSPI-0216.1" for this monitor must be
changed as well:
Set Threshold to: 100
Modify Message Text to: "DBSPI-0216.1: Number of extents
(<$VALUE>) left for <$OPTION(segment_name)> too low
(\<=<$THRESHOLD> and \<=<$OPTION(cli_threshold)>) for
database <$OPTION(dbname)>."
The reason for the threshold of value 100 is that DB-SPI
will not send the value to VPO/OVO unless the command line
threshold has been exceeded. The default command line
threshold is one (1). For example, the following two
commands operate in the same manner:
dbspicao -m 216 -c DBSPI-1h
dbspicao -m 216:1 -c DBSPI-1h
In both of these cases, an alarm will occur when there is
only 1 extent left. To alarm when 3 or less extens are
left, then change the command line threshold:
dbspicao -m 216:3 -c DBSPI-1h

object in the object database. These three operations do
not happen as one single atomic operation. Invalid symbols
and submaps are left behind if ovw aborts after the
deletion of the map object and the object in the object
database, but before the removal of the symbol (or submap)
information.
Resolution:
The verbose option of ovw -mapcount is enhanced to do a
listing of invalid symbols and submaps. A new option '-c'
is provided with ovw -mapcount to clean such invalid
symbols and submaps.

The IDE driver buffers information. The buffer is not reset
when the drive is empty. With a CD in the drive, diskinfo
returns the correct capacity information. With no CD in the
drive, capacity information comes from the buffered data
(e.g. data from the last disk in the drive, if any).
Resolution:
When the IDE driver detects that there is no media in the
drive, the capacity information is set to zero.

Instead of silently ignoring the "log sense" request issued
by diagnostics, the IDE driver logged the messages noted.
In addition, under some conditions, it is necessary to
re-read the IDE registers. The existing driver code to
retry the reads was determined to be incomplete, causing the
other symptoms noted above.
Resolution:
The "NOT IMPLEMENTED" message triggered by the "log sense"
request from diagnostics will no longer be issued, the
existing code to retry register reads was improved to
include reading a non-IDE register during the reread loop,
and an additional register will now be reread when needed.
Note: only workstations with IDE drives need this patch.

Mitsumi drive breaks the IDE norm of setting the cylinder

data and cause an overflow. Added code to deal with this
oddity.
