------------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM: Multiple vulnerabilities in fetchmail package
IMPACT: Potential to crash fetchmail or allow remote code execution
PLATFORM: Any system running HP Secure OS Software for Linux Release 1.0
SOLUTION: Apply the appropriate patch.
AVAILABILITY: The RPMs are available now.
------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Background
Fetchmail is a remote mail retrieval and forwarding utility intended
for use over on-demand TCP/IP links such as SLIP and PPP connections.
Fetchmail is not included in the default installation of HP Secure
OS Software for Linux.
Unpatched versions prior to 6.1.0 contain two security flaws. The
RPM packages mentioned below contain a backported fix.
B. Recommended solution
Hewlett-Packard Company recommends that customers who have installed
fetchmail download the RPMs listed in the following Red Hat
Security Advisory in the section labeled "Red Hat Linux 7.1".
2002-10-07 RHSA-2002:215 Updated fetchmail packages fix
vulnerabilities
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2002-215.html
To install the security advisory RPMs, use the following sequence
of commands:
1. If you use the tripwire product, we recommend that you run a
a consistency check and fix any violations before installing
the security advisory RPM.
tripwire --check --interactive
2. Install the advisory RPM from the root account.
rpm -F <advisory RPM name>
3. Update the tripwire database
tripwire --check --interactive
NOTE:
The rpm -q <package name> command can be used to determine if the
package is installed. Hewlett-Packard recommends applying the
security advisory fixes to installed packages only. The -F option
to the RPM installer will only apply the fix if the package is
currently installed on the system. Dependent RPMs can be found by
using the "Find Latest RPMs" search facility at
http://www.redhat.com/apps/download. To find the latest dependent
RPM enter the RPM's name in the "By Keyword" box.

IMPACT: Potential for denial of service
PLATFORM: Any system running HP Secure OS Software for Linux Release 1.0
SOLUTION: Apply the appropriate patch.

------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Background
nss_ldap is a set of C library extensions that allow X.500 and
LDAP directory servers to be used as a primary source of aliases,
ethers, groups, hosts, networks, protocols, users, RPCs, services,
and shadow passwords (instead of or in addition to using flat
files or NIS).
Updated nss_ldap packages are now available. These updates fix
a potential buffer overflow. The Common Vulnerabilities and
Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name

Title: Security vulnerability in gaim package
TEXT
---------------------------------------------------------------
HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY SECURITY ADVISORY: HPSBTL0209-067
Originally issued: 10 Sep 2002
---------------------------------------------------------------
The information in the following Security Advisory should be acted
upon as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will not be
liable for any consequences to any customer resulting from the
customer's failure to fully implement instructions in this Security
Advisory as soon as possible.
Because the vulnerability does not require a Hewlett-Packard Secure OS
1.0 patch or re-packaging of the RPM affected by the advisory, the
RPMs have not been produced or tested by Hewlett-Packard.
---------------------------------------------------------------
PROBLEM: Security vulnerability in gaim package
PLATFORM: Any system running HP Secure OS Software for Linux Release 1.0
DAMAGE: Potential remote command execution
SOLUTION: Apply the appropriate RPMs (see section B below)
AVAILABILITY: The RPMs are available now.
---------------------------------------------------------------
A. Background
Updated gaim packages are now available. Gaim is an instant
messaging client based on the published TOC protocol from AOL.
Versions of gaim prior to 0.59.1 contain a flaw that can
potentially allow remote execution of a shell script.
Users of gaim should update to the packages containing gaim
0.59.1 which is not vulnerable to this issue. Gaim is not
included in the default installation of HP Secure OS Software
for Linux Release 1.0.
B. Fixing the problem
Hewlett-Packard Company recommends that customers who have installed
gaim download the RPMs listed in the following Red Hat Security
Advisory in the section labeled "Red Hat Linux 7.1 i386".
2002-09-09 RHSA-2002:189 Updated gaim client fixes URL vulnerability
http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2002-189.html
To install the security advisory RPMs, use the following sequence
of commands:
1. If you use the tripwire product, we recommend that you run a
a consistency check and fix any violations before installing
the security advisory RPM.
tripwire --check --interactive
2. Install the advisory RPM from the root account.
rpm -F <advisory RPM name>
3. Update the tripwire database
tripwire --check --interactive
NOTE:
The rpm -q <package name> command can be used to determine if the
package is installed. Hewlett-Packard recommends applying the
security advisory fixes to installed packages only. The -F option
to the RPM installer will only apply the fix if the package is
currently installed on the system. Dependent RPMs can be found by
using the "Find Latest RPMs" search facility at
