Status: General Release

Critical: No

Category Tags:

Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_28824

Symptoms:
        PHSS_28824:
In any alarm group, if customer configures the alarms
module to have more alarms than default, then the alarms
no longer appear in the correct chronological order.

Defect Description:
        PHSS_28824:
Due to a thread synchronization problem, the portal
sometimes requests alarms from ovalarmsrv in pages of 0
size. When this occurs NNM sends back alarms in pages of
size 100 if it has more than 100 alarms for the category
requested. Due to the difference in the number of alarms
expected and the number of alarms received, the portal
logic mixes up the chronological order in which alarms are
        receeived.
        Resolution:
The thread synchronization problem has been fixed. Also
the logic for sorting the alarms has been changed to take
care of the case where more than the expected number of
        alarms are received.

Enhancement:
        No

Restore of a JFS 3.3 filesystem reports the error:

"Can not set ACL: ([22] Invalid argument)".

Defect Description:
        PHSS_28577:
        Id = HSLco30587 SR:H555006667
In case that JFS 3.3 filesystem contains Loopback FS
entries, Disk Agent is not able to get ACL's for such
files because they do not exist.

        Resolution:
Disk Agent ignores error in case of LOFS.

        Id = HSLco34580 SR:H555007992
Last message from Disk Agent is sometimes lost. This
causes Disk Agent's status reported as "Failed".

        Resolution:
            New OmniBack II environment variable:
              OB2VBDASLEEPBEFORECLOSE
            is introduced.
Its default value is 0. Setting it to a positive
            number, in /<OMNIBACK_HOME>/.omnirc file specifies
number of seconds to pass before Disk Agent completes
after sending the last block of data.
            Sleep time insignificantly influences backup
            performance.

        Id = HSLco38200 SR:H555009032
When option "omit deleted files" is enabled for restore
it ignores options "no overwrite" and "keep most
            recent" although it should not.

        Resolution:
"omit deleted files" option is properly interpreted
when used together with "no overwrite" and/or "keep
            most recent" options.

        Id = HSLco38494 SR:H555009141
In case that JFS 3.3 File System has a softlink which
points to different File System, read of ACL's can fail.

        Resolution:
Disk Agent ignores such error in case of softlinks.

        Id = HSLco39001 SR:H555009249
Raw disk restore does not work correctly on Tru 64
systems if disks are grouped into logical units.

        Resolution:
New OB2 environment variable OB2NODIOCWLABEL is
introduced. In case that this variable is set to "1",
OB2 does not perform disk related ioctl() commands.

NOTE: In case that OB2 variable is set, and restore is
started on the normal raw disk, restore reports that
disk is "Read-only file system" and aborts.

        Id = HSLco39524 SR:H555009425
In case that OB2ALIGN variable is set backup is
corrupt and restore is not possible.

        Resolution:
Backup disk agent is fixed in order to work correctly
            with OB2ALIGN option.

        Id = HSLco39544 SR:H555009435
If files are backed up on JFS filesystem and restored
to VXFS filesystem, minor error is reported for every
            file restored.

        Resolution:
Message "Destination file system does not support ACLs!"
is added and is reported only once, subsequent error
            messages are suppressed.

        PHSS_24979:
        Id = HSLco28006
Binaries for OmniStorage integration are named
            incorrectly.

        Resolution:
Binaries for OmniStorage integration are named
            correctly.

        Id = NSMex03397
When restoring files to nfs mount point on Sun Solaris
system, the files' time attributes are not restored.

        Resolution:
Restore Disk Agent restores file attributes as they
            were backed up.

        Id = NSMex04470, NSMex04563
OmniBack II reports an error message for each softlink
on JFS filesystem that points to a non-existing file.

        Resolution:
Error message for softlinks to non-existing files is
            ignored.

        Id = HSLco28412
Restore session on HP-UX 11.11 is filling debug.log
            with following message:

              "HpUxCreateObject: <filename> ioctl(VX_SETEXT)
               failed, errno 251".

        Resolution:
Disk Agent checking for the VXFS layout version is
            improved.

        Id = NSMex04502
Disk Agent is not able to get ACLs for a subdirectory
of JFS 3.3 filesystem being mountpoint for a HFS
            filesystem.

        Resolution:
Disk Agent ignores the error reported.

        Id = NSMex04545
Type casting on IRIX systems is 32-bit.

        Resolution:
Type casting on IRIX systems is changed to 64-bit.

            Part of SSPUX400_002.

        Id = NSMex04616
When "-overwrite" option is not used for restore,
Volume Restore Disk Agent tries to set ACLs to an
            existing directory and fails.

        Resolution:
Handling of JFS 3.3 objects is improved.

        Id = NSMex04644
Omniback reports an error if there are softlinks from
            JSF 3.3 to HFS filesystem.

        Resolution:
Disk Agent ignores error in case of softlinks.

        Id = NSMex04683
Omniback fails to restore files with maximum number
            (17) of ACLs.

        Resolution:
Backup Disk Agent is improved in order to correctly
backup files with maximum number of ACLs.

            Part of SSPUX400_007.

Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHSS_26675

Symptoms:
        PHSS_26675:

        1. In a trusted hpux system, Object Manager failed to
authenticate if the password was greater than
           eight characters in length.

        2. Admin functions executed through ServiceGuard
Manager are not logged in syslog on a cluster
           node where operation takes place.

        3. cmomd core dumps if a port scanning tool like
           nmap talks to it

        PHSS_24292:

        1. An API client connection can cause cmomd to abort
with a core dump if client issues a query string with
a where clause exactly in the multiples of 128 bytes
long. The core is located in /var/opt/cmom directory.

        PHSS_22175:

        1. Without this patch and ServiceGuard patch PHSS_24678,
"ServiceGuard Manager A.02.00" cannot perform cluster
administrative operations such as running and halting
nodes, packages or the cluster. Note that ServiceGuard
Manager releases before A.02.00 do not support cluster
           administrative operations.

Defect Description:
        PHSS_26675:

        1. As part of authentication logic, we used the crypt()
function, which can handle only eight characters.

           Resolution:
Used the bigcrypt() method if the system is in
           "trusted system" mode.

        2. This is an enhancement request. Remote admin requests
executed through Object Manager were not tracked
through syslog on a cluster node where operation
           takes place.

           Resolution:
Enhanced admin code paths in config library
and ServiceGuard daemons to log more information
about the user requesting the request: where the
request is being issued and how it is issued.
In order for this additional logging to be active,
ServiceGuard 11.13 Patch PHSS_27722 must also be
           installed.

        3. We prematurely deallocate a configuration object,
           that is needed later.

           Resolution:
Deallocate the configuration object only when it
           is no longer needed.

        PHSS_24292:

        1. The query engine does not allocate enough memory before
appending a termination character to an incoming string
while processing a where clause from the query string.
Under a heavy system load, when the Object Manager tries
to free up the reference to this memory location, it
           core dumps.

           Resolution:
Reallocate the query string memory required to
           accomodate the termination character.

        PHSS_22175:

        1. This feature was not supported in prior releases.

Resolution: This patch along with ServiceGuard patch
           PHSS_24678 enables cluster administrative operations.

Enhancement:
        Yes
        PHSS_26675:
This patch delivers new functionality for logging the
audit messages into the syslog.log for the admin
        operations.

        PHSS_22175:
With this patch and ServiceGuard patch PHSS_24678,
"ServiceGuard Manager A.02.00" can perform cluster
administrative operations such as running and halting
        nodes, packages or the cluster.

Symptoms:
        PHKL_28720:
        ( SR:8606274247 CR:JAGae38324 )
An MCA is a Machine Check Abort and indicates a serious
system error; MCAs on IPF systems are equivalent to HPMCs
on PA platforms. Note that this is an IPF only Patch.

For IPF platforms, there are a number of MCA related issues
in the 11.22 initial release of HP-UX. This patch
will supply support engineers with better memory crash
dumps for analysis in the case of an MCA. This helps them
better support customers who are experiencing difficulties
        with IPF platforms.

Some MCAs may cause the system to reboot with no indication
of what happened. No console output will be seen. No crash
dump will be taken for support engineers to analyze.

The "stack unwind problem" refers to the debugger's
inability to get a stack trace of the processor crash
events from a system memory crash dump after an MCA. After
the dump is written, and the system reboots, the expected
behavior for debuggers such as kwdb, or q4 is a display of
each processor's stack trace, using the "trace event X"
command. But instead the "trace event" command fails with
an assertion failure message or unwind internal library
        error.

        PHKL_28093:
        ( SR:8606276344 CR:JAGae40422 )
On the Intel OEM i870 platform only, HP-UX will fail to
initialize the 4 port Fast Ethernet card. This console
        message will print repeatedly:

btlan: Initializing 10/100BASE-TX card at 0/3/31/0/2/0/4/0.
btlan: Failed to link driver ISR.
        wsio_claim init failed isc=0xe00000010dff1400 name=btlan

        PHKL_28203:
        ( SR:8606276202 CR:JAGae40280 )
On IPF, the stack unwind problem after INIT refers to the
inability to get a stack trace of the processor crash events
from a system memory dump after an INIT. After the dump is
written, and the system reboots, the expected behavior for
debuggers such as kwdb, q4, or p4 is a display of each
processor's stack trace, using the "trace event X" command.
But instead the "trace event" command fails with an
assertion failure message or unwind internal library error.
This problem exists for IPF systems only.

Defect Description:
        PHKL_28720:
        ( SR:8606274247 CR:JAGae38324 )
Fatal MCAs are MCAs that will cause a PCI bus to be reset
thus leaving all the devices on that bus in a reset turn-on
state. When such an MCA occurs, the OS_MCA handler
cannot access any I/O devices resulting in no console
output and no crash dump taken.

The complete internal state of the system at the time
of an MCA is not being preserved by the kernel
in the crash event structures. Additionally, the
debuggers are using the incorrect unwind context
to unwind the stack after an MCA.

        Resolution:
On IPF platforms, the patch will allow the correct
information to be stored in a crash dump in the case of an
MCA. The kernel fixes in this patch include changes to save
all register information to be later used by the debuggers.
This will help support engineers in analyzing problems more
effectively when they have the correct stack trace and
        processor save state information.

This patch PHKL_28720 will allow PCI devices to function
enough to take a crash dump and print to the serial console
after a FATAL MCA occurs and causes PCI buses to be reset.

Restoration of the VGA console when using an ATI Radeon
based graphics card will not be supported at this time. If
a FATAL MCA occurs when using the VGA console (as in a
workstation setup) the system will perform a crash dump but
no output will be printed to the screen. Fire-GL Cards are
supported and will print to the screen. For this to work X
windows must be running and VGA the only console selected.

        All serial consoles are supported.

The following dump devices will be supported when this
patch is installed (without the need for other supporting
        patches):

        Workstations
        -----------------
        On board IDE on zx2000
        Add-in SCSI on zx2000 and zx6000 (A6829A, A6828A)
        Add-n Fiber Channel on zx2000 and zx6000 (A6795A)

        Servers
        ---------
        Add-in SCSI on rx2600 and rx5670 (A6829A,A6828A)
        Add-in Fiber Channel on rx2600 and rx5670 (A6795A)
        (A6795A)

The following dump devices will be supported when this
patch is installed with the following supporting patches
(as indicated) With out any the following patches the crash
dump will not occur on the specified devices:

        Workstations
        -----------------
On board SCSI on zx6000 (PHSS_27990)

        Servers
        ---------
On Board SCSI on rx2600 (PHSS_27990)
On Board SCSI on rx5670 (PHKL_28787) released 6/03

        Firmware Dependencies
        ---------------------
        For HP platforms (rx5670, rx2600, zx6000, and zx2000),
a firmware upgrade to the following version is needed
for a complete solution for the stack unwind problem.
With out this firmware update a correct stack trace may
        not be obtainable.:
        rx5670 - SFW 2.11 or better rx2600, zx6000,
        zx2000 - SFW 1.61 or better

        For HP platforms (rx5670, rx2600, and zx6000), a firmware
upgrade to the versions below are required so the systems
will not reboot before a crash dump is performed. These
firmware dependencies are only needed on systems with more
than one processor. Without upgrading to the firmware
revisions listed below the system may still suffer from
reset after an MCA, though less often if the patch were not
        installed at all:
rx5670 (SFW with Madison Support) or better, released 7/03
        rx2600, zx6000 - SFW 1.90 or better

        Other Dependencies
        ------------------
        Patch Dependency:
PHCO_28066 Patch adds support for Q4 and Kwdb.
These patches must be installed together.

        PHKL_28093:
        ( SR:8606276344 CR:JAGae40422 )
On the Intel OEM i870 platform, HP-UX does not properly
initialize PCI cards that contain a bus bridge, such as
the 4 port Fast Ethernet card. They will not be seen by
        HP-UX.

        Resolution:
The fix was made to support the following configuration:

        PCI Root Bridge
        |
        Built-in PCI-PCI Bridge
        |
        Add-on Generic PCI-PCI Bridge
        |
        I/O Controller

The root cause of this defect is that HP-UX assumes only
one level of PCI-to-PCI bus bridge. The 4 port Fast Ethernet
card has a PCI-to-PCI bus bridge on it, and so uncovered
two places in the HP-UX kernel that assumed one level of
        bridge.

        PHKL_28203:
        ( SR:8606276202 CR:JAGae40280 )
On IPF the complete internal state of the system at the time
of an INIT is not being preserved by the kernel in the crash
event structures. Additionally, the debuggers are using the
incorrect unwind context to unwind the stack after an INIT.

        Resolution:
The kernel fixes include changes to save all register
information to be later used by the debuggers.

revisions listed below the system may still suffer from
reset after an MCA, though less often if the patch were not
        installed at all:
rx5670 (SFW with Madison Support) or better, released 7/03
        rx2600, zx6000 - SFW 1.90 or better

        For HP platforms (rx5670, rx2600, zx6000, and zx2000),
a firmware upgrade to the following version is desirable
        for a complete solution:
           rx5670 - SFW 2.11 or better
           rx2600, zx6000, zx2000 - SFW 1.61 or better

Data integrity issues or High Priority Machine Check
(HPMC) are seen with Channel B of A5159A FWD SCSI HBA.

        ( SR:8606266447 CR:JAGae30695 )
Processes appear to have hung forever following an
abort request because of a bus hang condition.

Defect Description:
        PHKL_28566:
        ( SR:8606288219 CR:JAGae52150 )
The system panicked with a Data TLB fault, because it
was trying to dereference an invalid pointer.

        Resolution:
Checks have been made in the driver so that invalid
        pointers are not dereferenced.

        ( SR:8606265839 CR:JAGae30093 )
The ioscan process hung because of a missing SCSI
        interrupt.

The ioscan request and all subsequent I/O requests did
not get processed because the timer routine did not
clear a flag after it processed the previous interrupt.

        Resolution:
The fix is to clear the flag in the timer routine.

        ( SR:8606268016 CR:JAGae32255 )
On systems without I/O TLBs, if the allocation of SCSI
Control Block (SCB) fails during the first LUN open,
then the process would remain sleeping without being
woken up ever. This resulted in the process hanging
        forever.

        Resolution:
The timer routine which gets called every 10 seconds is
modified to wake up any process waiting for memory.

        ( SR:8606266332 CR:JAGae30581 )
The system was going into an endless reboot sequence
because the initiator did not respond to the REQs sent
        by the target device.

        Resolution:
The driver has been modified so that the initiator
sends ACKs for the REQs received.

        ( SR:8606224108 CR:JAGad93204 )
When A6828A and A6829A SCSI Ultra160 cards are
connected in multi-initiator configuration, where more
than one initiator tries to arbitrate for the bus, the
card may go into hang state which can result in not
detecting the Dual Transition (DT) edge of the SCSI
clock. The card goes into hang state because the
device parameters were written into the card registers
before winning the arbitration. This results in the
SCSI Gross Error (SGE) and driver resets the SCSI bus.

        Resolution:
The driver has been modified to not write the device
parameters onto the card registers when the initiator
tries to arbitrate for the bus. Only the device ID is
written to the card registers to do the arbitration.
The other parameters are set after winning the
        arbitration.

        ( SR:8606265090 CR:JAGae29421 )
The SCSI workaround message must be printed only when
        the logging level is increased.

        Resolution:
The code has been modified to print the informative
message in the syslog when the logging level is
        increased.

        ( SR:8606262931 CR:JAGae27261 )
A local variable inside a function got corrupted which
caused the function to be executed in an infinite loop.
The spinlock was held while entering the function and
hence the system panicked with a spinlock deadlock
because the lock was never released.

        Resolution:
Code has been modified to prevent the variable from
        getting corrupted.

        ( SR:8606226043 CR:JAGad95114 )
In extremely rare conditions, single byte writes to
onboard memory (SCRIPT RAM) may not complete on Channel
B of A5159A FWD SCSI HBA. This may result in the
        following problems:

        a. Data integrity issues
        b. System crash due to HPMC.

        Resolution:
The driver has been changed to perform word writes
        instead of byte writes.

        ( SR:8606266447 CR:JAGae30695 )
When an abort request times out, currently, the driver
ignores the time-out. This could lead to process
timeouts and the process appears to have hung forever.

        Resolution:
The driver code has been changed to reset the SCSI bus
if an abort request times out, to prevent aborts
        happening again and again.

Enhancement:
        No

Symptoms:
        PHKL_28475:
        ( SR:8606278471 CR:JAGae42529 )
Programs using swapcontext() or setcontext() can fail in a
non-deterministic manner, due to incorrect values in
general registers gr3-gr18 (the "callee-save" registers),
if passing a context generated by a call to getcontext().

        PHKL_27172:
        ( SR:8606258396 CR:JAGae22696 )
Applications that use system calls that pass more than four
        (4) arguments which worked on an earlier release of HP-UX
may improperly return an EFAULT error. This only affects
32-bit applications running on 64-bit operating systems.

        ( SR:8606253687 CR:JAGae18035 )
The system can panic during boot when Virtual Partitions
(vPars) are enabled. Note that this panic does not occur if
the HP-UX Virtual Partitions product is not installed and in
        use.

The stack trace looks like the following:
        panic: Data page fault
        panic+0x6c
        report_trap_or_int_and_panic+0x94
        trap+0xedc
        nokgdb+0x8

Enhancement: This product update is a member of a set
needed to enable "Release mode" functionality for
        PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED mutexes.
The full list of product updates required for this feature
        are: PHKL_26467, PHKL_26468, PHKL_26469 and PHCO_26466.

If any member of this set of product updates is not
installed, this product update will have no impact on
        your system.

Obtaining complete filesystem mount information can be a
performance problem for some applications on systems having
        a large number of mounts.

        ( SR:8606232147 CR:JAGae01383 )
Enhancement: This product update is member of a set needed
to improve the performance of application using shared
mutexes. Performance of a PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED mutex
unlock operation is slower than that of a
PTHREAD_PROCESS_PRIVATE mutex, even in the non-contended
        (i.e., no waiters) case.
The full list of product updates required for this feature
        are: PHKL_26316, PHKL_26240, and PHCO_25751.
If any member of this set of product updates is not
installed, this product update will have no impact on your
        system.

        PHKL_26042:
        ( SR:8606230908 CR:JAGae00146 )
This change provides pre-enablement of the Direct Register
        Access feature.

This change will have no impact on your system until Direct
        Register Access is fully enabled.

Defect Description:
        PHKL_28475:
        ( SR:8606278471 CR:JAGae42529 )
According to the C runtime rules, the callee-save
registers will always have their original values upon
return from the kernel system call. However, these values
are not copied into the kernel where they can be provided
to getcontext(). Consequently, getcontext() cannot place
the correct values in the user ucontext structure, and
        setcontext()/swapcontext() cannot restore them. The
program proceeds with incorrect values and fails in a
        non-deterministic manner.

        Resolution:
The system call entry path now copies these register
values so that getcontext() can retrieve them. The system
call return path now reloads these registers for
setcontext() (or swapcontext()) calls. This ensures these
registers have the same value as at the time the
application called getcontext(), and resolves the
        failures.

        PHKL_27172:
        ( SR:8606258396 CR:JAGae22696 )
When 32-bit applications invoke system calls having more
than four arguments on 64-bit kernels, these fifth, sixth,
etc., arguments are stored in the outgoing parameters area
of the caller's stack frame. There are situations where a
register used to calculate the pointer to the arguments
could have some residual left over bits in the high order
32-bits that will result in problems when attempting to
retrieve those arguments. These extraneous bits create an
address that is outside the range of the 32-bit address
        space causing the EFAULT.

        Resolution:
Mask off the upper 32-bits of the system call's argument(s)
        pointer.

        ( SR:8606253687 CR:JAGae18035 )
The system can panic upon invoking the first 32-bit system
call after the kernel is booted because the system call
initialization path attempts to reference the per-processor
data before the processor is set to wide mode.

        Resolution:
Enable the wide 64-bit address mode before any data
        reference is done.

        PHKL_26467:
        ( SR:8606231620 CR:JAGae00858 )
This product update contains minor enhancements
required to enable the "Release mode" functionality
        for PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED mutexes.

        Resolution:
This product update provides support for a new system
call interface, used internally by the POSIX
thread library to support release mode for
        PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED mutexes.

        PHKL_26240:
        ( SR:8606178913 CR:JAGad48138 )
The existing system call to obtain lists of filesystems
mounted returns information for one mount at a time. The
overhead in making this call, and obtaining kernel locks,
can be quite high, and contend with other system activity.

        Resolution:
Provide a new system call which returns information for
multiple mounts with each call (rather than one per call).
This patch provides the new system call hooks. (Patch
PHKL_26239, also required for this performance improvement,
provides the new system call content.)

        ( SR:8606232147 CR:JAGae01383 )
In the PTHREAD_PROCESS_SHARED mutex case, the unlock
operation always makes a system call to synchronize with
threads in other processes which may be waiting for the
mutex. This makes the code path significantly longer.

        Resolution:
To increase shared mutex performance in the non-contended
(i.e., no waiters) case, this change adds a new light weight
system call to be used in place of the regular system call
in the unlock operation. This is entirely transparent to
the applications. It greatly reduces the transition time
between kernel and user space. If waiters are detected,
the light weight call will transfer into the regular system
call path for proper handling. Thus, this performance
enhancement is effective only for shared mutexes which do
not experience heavy contention. (PHKL_26316, also
required for this enhancement, adapts the existing system
call which handles waiters of shared mutexes to coordinate
with the light weight call. PHCO_25751, also
required for this enhancement, adapts the libpthread
library to use the new light weight system call.)

        PHKL_26042:
        ( SR:8606230908 CR:JAGae00146 )
This change contains minor enhancements required to
pre-enable the Direct Register Access feature.

        Resolution:
Provide a new Light Weight System call providing Direct
        Register Access.

Enhancement:
        No (superseded patches contained enhancements)
        PHKL_28475:
Enhancements were delivered in a patch this one has
superseded. Please review the Defect Description

Symptoms:
        PHKL_28474:
        ( SR:8606278471 CR:JAGae42529 )
Programs using swapcontext() or setcontext() can fail in a
non-deterministic manner, due to incorrect values in
general registers gr3-gr18 (the "callee-save" registers),
if passing a context generated by a call to getcontext().

        PHKL_27283:
        ( SR:8606259602 CR:JAGae23920 )
Applications which are compiled for the 32-bit data model
and run on a 64-bit kernel can sometimes abort with the
messages: "Pid <nnn> killed due to trashed stack. Pid <nnn>
was killed due to failure in writing the signal context."

In most cases, the application was compiled with +O2
optimization or uses alloca(3C) with a computed size
        argument.

Defect Description:
        PHKL_28474:
        ( SR:8606278471 CR:JAGae42529 )
According to the C runtime rules, the callee-save
registers will always have their original values upon
return from the kernel system call. However, these values
are not copied into the kernel where they can be provided
to getcontext(). Consequently, getcontext() cannot place
the correct values in the user ucontext structure, and
        setcontext()/swapcontext() cannot restore them. The
program proceeds with incorrect values and fails in a
        non-deterministic manner.

        Resolution:
A new flag has been added to setcontext() to trigger the
system call return path to reload the "callee-save"
        registers.

        PHKL_27283:
        ( SR:8606259602 CR:JAGae23920 )
The problem is that the upper half of the 64-bit stack
pointer can sometimes contain non-zero data (e.g., due to
overflows in calculating the size argument for alloca(); or
due to optimizer use of the upper half of the register for
temporary storage). This causes the kernel to make invalid
references to the user stack, resulting in program aborts.

        Resolution:
For 32-bit programs, the kernel will now use only the lower
half of the stack pointer register, which is the correct and
        complete address.

Enhancement:
        No

OmniBack II user, with only "Start backup specification"
user right, is not able to change and save the
schedule-time specification of a backup datalist.

        Resolution:
New global variable "SaveScheduleAllowed" is added
and it works in combination with "Start backup
specification" user right. Default value is 0 and
it is usual interface behavior. If value is set to 1,
            "SaveScheduleAllowed=1", during saving datalist error
message is still displayed, but the schedule is saved.

        Id = HSLco37193
In split mirror environment with huge SAP databases
it can happen that the size of the message buffer
OmniBack II uses is too small to receive complete list
of SAP files to be backed up.

        Resolution:
Setting the OB2IPCBUFSIZE environment variable in the
/opt/omni/.omnirc file on Cell Server, R1 and R2 hosts,
specifying the desired amount of memory to be used for
the buffer solves the described problem.
Please read the following instructions and make sure
that the patches listed in "Other Dependencies" section
(see below) are installed and the environment
variable is set on Cell Server, R1 and R2 systems before
            running the backup!

How to determine the buffer size?
            ---------------------------------

            N_obj: number of objects (files)
            N_fs: number of file systems
            N_lvmvg: number of volume groups
            N_dg: number of disk groups
            N_rdsk: number of rawdisks
            Obj: Object Name
            ObjBack: Object Backup Name
MntPathLen: Path name on backup (R2) host
                         (example: /var/opt/omni/tmp/App_host)
            fsmnt: File System Mount Point
            fsdev: File System Device File
                         (example: /dev/dsk/[c0t1d1,lvol1])
            vg: Volume group
                         (ex: /dev/vg01)
dg: Disk group (VxVM) - dependence on mapfile
which is required for creating disk group
                         (example:/dev/vx/dsk/dg01)
            rdsk: Raw disk file name
                         (example: /dev/rdsk/c1t1d1)
            AvgLen_<xxx> average length of <xxx>

There are two different buffers used:

            1. BSM <-> R1
            2. R1 <-> R2

Calculating the BSM <-> R1 buffer size
            --------------------------------------
            MsgSize_BSM_R1 = N_obj * (AvgLen_Obj + 1 + MntPathLen)

            Calculating the R1 <-> R2 buffer size
            -------------------------------------
            MsgSize_R1_R2 =
              N_obj*(AvgLen_Obj+1+AvgLen_ObjBack) +
              N_fs*(AvgLen_fsmnt*2 + MntPathLen + AvgLen_fsdev*2)+
              N_lvmvg*(AvgLen_vg*2) + N_dg*(AvgLen_dg*2) +
              N_rdsk*(AvgLen_rdsk*2)

            Calculating the OB2IPCBUFSIZE value
            -----------------------------------
            OB2IPCBUFSIZE > max (MsgSize_BSM_R1, MsgSize_R1_R2)

            RESTORE NOTE:
            -------------
If restore is started using the sapbda utility,
the variable OB2IPCBUFSIZE must be exported to
            environment prior to starting sapbda.

            Known problems:
            ---------------
If the calculated variable OB2IPCBUFSIZE is correctly
set, but is still too small for the file list to fit
into the message buffer, the session will fail with
the following error seen in the report:

            BR295I Splitting mirror disks...
            BR280I Time stamp <time>
            BR279E Return code from '/opt/omni/lbin/ob2smbsplit
               /<sap_homedir_path>/.<filename>.lst': 2
BR299E Split/resynchronization of mirror disks failed

In this case the variable OB2IPCBUFSIZE must be
recalculated to appropriate value. See above how to
            determine it.

GUI is not able to handle nested mount points.
When GUI receives excluded directory from datalist
file it assumes that the part of the string between
first and second slash represents mount point.
Besides this, mount point is shown in GUI as a
            mountpoint and as directory.

At startup time all contexts/dlls are loaded.
On UX systems this needs ~2 seconds for each.
On top of that, ReadSubTree() is performed 3 times for
            each context.

        Resolution:
Usually administrator does not need all contexts from
the start. It is enough to first load database, monitor,
and backup. dlls for other contexts are only loaded when
the context is accessed during GUI session.

Status: General Release

Critical: No

Category Tags:
        defect_repair general_release

Path Name: /hp-ux_patches/s700_800/11.X/PHCO_28316

Symptoms:
        PHCO_28316:
        1. After the installation of the latest sh-posix
patch (PHCO_26789 or newer patch), rc scripts
on some systems show the following error message
         during bootup:
"/sbin/rc[41]: 079: The specified number is not
         valid for this command."

Defect Description:
        PHCO_28316:
        1. sh-posix now (PHCO_26789 or newer patch) adheres
to ISOC standards by recognizing the octal and
hexadecimal numbers (i.e., numbers starting with
0 should be recognized as octal and starting with
0x or 0X should be recognized as hexadecimal) in
         arithmetic expressions involving let, $((..))
         or ((..)).
This exposed a problem in rc.utils script containing
         the following lines:
           let ROWS="$rows"
           let COLS="$cols"
where "rows" and "cols" contain 3 digit decimal values
of number of rows and columns of the HP terminal device.
If the $rows or $cols starts with a leading zero,
sh-posix(1) recognizes these numbers as octal numbers
instead of recognizing them as decimal numbers.

For example, if the value of "rows" is set to "079",
then sh-posix(1) will recognize the value of "rows"
as octal number while processing the let statement
         "let ROWS="$rows"".Since "079" isn't a valid octal
number, the following error message is displayed during
         bootup:
"/sbin/rc[41]: 079: The specified number is not
         valid for this command."
        Resolution:
The fix is to change the lines:
           let ROWS="$rows"
           let COLS="$cols"
         to
           let ROWS="${rows##*(0)}"
           let COLS="${cols##*(0)}"
         which removes the leading zeroes.

1.nodeView.ovpl is not displaying the created graphics if
an interface label has the special and/or non-printable
characters that must be escaped in XML. These characters
          include: & ' " < >. These special characters can come
from the interface alias, name or description.
2.On the content pane of 'View Scheduled Reports', there
is a table consisting of 'Report', 'Status',
and 'Schedule'. Contents of the table look good when the
window is opened. However, once the Reload,Stop or
Pause button is clicked, the contents of 'Schedule'
          column('daily' or 'month-to-date') is garbled.

        PHSS_27624:
A router is dragged and placed on a location symbol.
Selecting an event in xnmevents corresponding to the same
router leads to ovw core dump.

        PHSS_27617:
Memory leak in xnmevents when it runs with filterByMap and
        filterByMapManaged options.

        PHSS_27615:
        ovactiond man page not clear.

Incorrect behaviour of xnmloadmib when MIBs were loaded
with the -trapType option , under the Japanese locale.

Defect Description:
        PHSS_28705:
        8606293110: The time period specified
in "ScheduledMaintenance" circuit was not being handled
        correctly.
        Resolution:
        8606293110: "ScheduledMaintenance" circuit has been
modified to properly handle the range error.

8606293261: Microsoft JVM fails to handle EUCJIS encoding.
        Resolution:
8606293261: Code has been implemented to handle EUCJIS
        encoding.

8606245261: Map deletion by design was not meant to
restrain administrators from deleting maps that may be
open in read-only OVW sessions. This fact was not
mentioned in the OVW man page.
        Resolution:
8606245261: The OVW man page is changed to apprise users
that maps opened in Read-Only OVW session are deleted when
        ovw -deleteMap option is used.

8606278162: IPMap was applying filters for retrieving node
information from topology for nodes that were already
        represented in the map.
        Resolution:
8606278162: Code changes have been made to prevent the
application of filters while retrieving node information
        from topology.

8606265024: IPMap was not correctly handling symbols added
to Node Submap by other OVW applications.
        Resolution:
8606265024: IPMap has been modified to handle symbols
        added by other OVW applications.

8606282939: Apache_1.3.0 shipped with NNM did not handle
some of the web requests properly.
        Resolution:
8606282939: Apache-1.3.27 is now shipped with NNM to take
        care of the above problems.

        PHSS_28587:
8606284920: Reporting generated E-mail format did not
conform to the qmail format specifications.
        Resolution:
8606284920: E-mail format specifications for qmail have
been incorporated in the generated message content.

        PHSS_28565:
8606284812: A data buffer was not fully utilized. This
resulted in reading the same data.
8606207670: snmpCollect deleted all the existing
collections on receiving a configuration update.
        Resolution:
8606284812: The data buffer is now being fully utilized.
8606207670: Configuration update algorithm is modified not
to delete the existing collections if their attributes are
        not changed.

        PHSS_28546:
8606289437: ovw incorrectly unmanages the router if the
network it connects to is unmanaged and the network is
        contained inside a location symbol.

8606286694: Locale change is not taken care of in string
        operations in Alarm Browser.

8606289384: If Auto Layout is disabled for all submaps of
a Read-Write map and the submaps are never visited, the
(x,y) coordinates of the symbols in these submaps will be
set to (0,0). This leads to a symbol stacking problem in
the read only copy when a layout by symbol coordinates is
        attempted.

8606288376: An internal buffer overflow was resulting in a
corrupted pointer causing the core dump.

8606285768: ovw was dereferencing a NULL pointer.

8606288696: Webappmon uses a fixed 32KB buffer for
        incoming data from any application.

8606289286: Without system utilities path in the PATH
        environment variable, backup script fails.

8606287001: Network Presenter does not handle the case
        when ovw disconnects ungracefully.

8606284911: The number of rows to display for CRGen report
        was hardcoded to 10.

8606288055: The locking mechanisms used in UNIX and
Windows are not compatible with each other.

8606282709: Status update of Alarm Categories was not
handled properly on deletion of events from Web Alarm
        Browser.
        Resolution:
8606289437: ovw has been made aware of symbol and submap
hierarchy, so that it does not unmanage all child objects
as a result of unmanaging the parent object.

8606286694: Code has been changed to handle the locale
        changes.

8606289384: If the submaps in the Read-Write map are never
visited, an Auto Layout is now performed on the Read Only
        submaps, when they are opened.

8606288376: ovwdb has been modified to truncate the buffer
in line with the stated documentation.

8606285768: A null value check has been done for the
pointer that causes the core dump.

8606288696: Webappmon has been modified to allocate memory
for the data buffer dynamically when the data size exceeds
        32KB.

8606289286: System utilities path has been included in the
        PATH environment variable.

8606287001: Code has been added to display an error
message when any operation is performed in jovw after
        disconnection with ovw.

8606284911: Code has been modified to pick up the value,
for the number of rows to be displayed, from the
global.conf file while configuring a report.

8606288055: A common locking mechanism is provided to
        resolve the incompatibility.

8606282709: The code has been modified to appropriately
update status on Alarm Categories in the Web alarm browser.

        PHSS_28473:
8606228571: NNM is not designed to handle Sun Clusters.
8606288064: netmon does not handle invalid PDUs.
        Resolution:
8606228571: Changed NNM to understand the migratable IP
address reported by Sun Clusters. More details on the usage
can be found in the netmon.migratable man page.

8606288064: Changed netmon to handle the invalid PDU.

        PHSS_28400:
8606283616: The port number for the management server was
not being appended to the URL.

8606288037: The UNIX port number was hard-coded as 8880
        for UNIX management server.

8606280347: ovalarmsrv fails to handle the print request
        from Web Alarms Browser.

8606281958: Network Presenter fails to recognize Internet
Explorer when Sun Java plug-in is installed.

8606277321: IPMap does not limit the scope of the
recursive procedure used to handle addition of devices
        under Location symbols.

8606281716: IPMap does not limit the scope of the
recursive procedure used to handle the manage operation,
for devices with large number of interfaces and present
        under Location symbols.

8606287613: IPMap performs the cleanup operation, during
synchronization, even for unused interfaces, causing it to
loop for devices having a large number of
        unused/disconnected interfaces.

        8606277559: The time period specified
in ScheduledMaintenance circuit was not being handled
        correctly.

8606285281: ovtrapd is designed to listen for traps on the
snmp-trap/UDP port on all the configured LAN interfaces
for forwarding them to NNM Event Subsystem.

8606277815: Manual page was not updated after the defect
        fix for SR 8606168719.

8606281767: Netmon does not update the status of the
interfaces as reported by SNMP during discovery. Hence,
for an admin-down interface that does not respond to ping,
Netmon sets the status as critical.

8606283445: OVW invokes xnmappmon when nmdemandpoll is
executed. xnmappmon is not handling white spaces in the
        executable path correctly.

8606284298: JOVW invokes webappmon when nmdemandpoll is
executed. webappmon is not handling white spaces in the
        executable path correctly.
        Resolution:
8606283616: The port number used by the UNIX management
server is now retrieved and appended to the URL.

8606288037: The port number is now being read from
        $OV_CONF/ovweb.conf file.

8606280347: ovalarmsrv has been modified to handle the
        print request on Solaris.

8606281958: Code has been modified to recognize Internet
Explorer if Sun Java plug-in is installed.

8606277321: The scope of recursion has been limited in
        IPMap.

8606281716: The scope of recursion has been limited in
        IPMap.

8606287613: Now, IPMap performs the cleanup operation only
for interfaces that changed since the last time
        synchronization was performed. Unused/disconnected
        interfaces are ignored.

        8606277559: ScheduledMaintenance circuit has been
modified to handle the range error.

8606285281: A command line option, -I, is added to ovtrapd
to occupy the snmp-trap/UDP port on only ONE interface,
which is used by OpenView NNM daemons. For more
information refer to the ovtrapd manual page. This
enhancement does not apply to the Windows version of NNM.

8606277815: Modified the ovbackup.ovpl manual page to
        include the missing information.

8606280632: Trace message in the API OVwDbUnsetFieldValues
        () is incorrect.

8606278320: Event viewer error message does not provide
useful information and is very repetitive.

8606239849: The netmon manual page does not document
clearly the implications of the different values for the
        pickSnmpAddrPolls option.

8606280620: IPMap re-collapses serial networks after
properly un-collapsing serial networks that are unmanaged.

8606279382: The contents of the "title" field in
snmp_trend_dataset table has a size of 40 characters.
The "title" field is updated with a compound string formed
from the MIB expression and Collection Group Name. During
the export of trend data, this compound string is
truncated if it is longer than 40 characters. As a result,
the SELECT query for the scheduled report returns no
records and so the report is not generated.

8606279896: ovuispmd does not allow new ovw connections if
one or more ovw sessions hang.

8606282042: -pollXServer command line option of ovw was
not available in the OVw resource file.

time do not come properly in the pop-up window of
        Xnmevents.
        Resolution:
8606280632: The trace message has been corrected to
        display the right information.

8606278320: Useful information has been added and the
Event viewer message moved to trace, rather than log.

8606239849: netmon manual page has been modified to
        reflect the right explanation.

8606280620: IPMap has been modified to handle the case for
        unmanaged serial networks.

8606279382: The "NNM Analysis and Reporting" section

has been put in the resource file for Xnmevents.

        PHSS_28095:
8606259527: ovsessionmgr is not reusing the existing
Session-ID for multiple logins from a system with the same
user-id. This results in a new thread being created for
        each such login.
        Resolution:
8606259527: ovsessionmgr has been modified to reuse the
existing Session-ID if the session already exists for the
IP address and User-id pair. Otherwise a new session will
        be created.

8606276323: Tracing option has been added for ovtrapd to
log the HEX and ASCII packet dump in the
$OV_LOG/ovtrapd.log file. Refer the ovtrapd manual page
        for further details.

8606284782: memory not released after allocation.
        Resolution:
8606284782: ipmap was modified to release memory after
        allocation/use.
