===============================================================================
o Security Bulletin Digest Split
------------------------------
The security bulletins digest has been split into multiple digests
based on the operating system (HP-UX, MPE/iX, and HP Secure OS
Software for Linux). You will continue to receive all security
bulletin digests unless you choose to update your subscriptions.
To update your subscriptions, use your browser to access the
IT Resource Center on the World Wide Web at:
http://support.itrc.hp.com/
Under the Maintenance and Support Menu, click on the "more..." link.
Then use the 'login' link at the left side of the screen to login
using your IT Resource Center User ID and Password.
Under the notifications section (near the bottom of the page), select
Support Information Digests.
To subscribe or unsubscribe to a specific security bulletin digest,
select or unselect the checkbox beside it. Then click the
"Update Subscriptions" button at the bottom of the page.
o IT Resource Center World Wide Web Service
---------------------------------------------------
If you subscribed through the IT Resource Center and would
like to be REMOVED from this mailing list, access the
IT Resource Center on the World Wide Web at:
http://support.itrc.hp.com/
Login using your IT Resource Center User ID and Password.
Then select Support Information Digests (located under
Maintenance and Support). You may then unsubscribe from the
appropriate digest.

A. Background
Many system modules create insecure temporary files with a
name based on a process id, and write subsequent input
to that file. Improper error checking of various sytem
calls results in a vulnerability.

A. Background
The worm referred to as "Blaster" or "W32.Blaster.worm", may
impact hp OpenView products running on Microsoft Windows,
HP-UX, Solaris and Linux.
More information about the worm can be found at:
<http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp>
It is important that you follow the instructions from
Microsoft and apply appropriate patches to all servers
running Microsoft Windows.
As the worm attempts to find new systems to infect it can
cause DCE to fail. The HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux systems
running DCE are not infected by the worm. DCE is impacted as
as side effect of the network traffic generated by the worm.
The impact is that critical DCE daemons can abort. These
daemons and the OpenView software which depends on them
would need to be restarted manually.
This problem has been reported by CERT/cc:
<http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/377804>
CERT/cc reports that the vulnerability can be
triggered by attempts to exploit Microsoft RPC
vulnerabilities:
<http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/568148>
<http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/326746>
B. Recommended solution
For Solaris and Linux please contact your support HP
representative for information concerning a preliminary fix.
Customers without a support contact should write to
security-alert
hp.com for information.
For systems running Microsoft Windows please refer to:
<http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp>
For HP-UX systems please refer to HPSBUX0308-273.
