Blank tapes are causing duplicates in the Media
Management database.
Defect Description:
PHSS_29152:
Id = HSLco38420
In case that Media Agent host uses the old NIO SCSI
bus, Data Protector is not able to get the capacity of
a mounted Magneto Optical (MO) medium.
Resolution:
Media Agent is improved to correctly get the
capacity of the MO medium.
Id = HSLco39404
In case that st_san_safe kernel parameter is enabled,
system does not work with rewind on close devices.
So devbra is returning devices which are not
usable for the customer.
Resolution:
devbra is chnaged in order to return non-rewind on
close devices.
Id = HSLco41118
Entry for T9840 and T9940 devices is missing from
device table.
Resolution:
Devices T9840 and T9940 are added to the device table.
Id = HSLco41800
Tape statistics logging is not implemented
in ACS and DAS Media Agents.
Resolution:
Functionality is implemented.
Id = HSLco41822
Data Protector is failing to access the robotics on
Linux. Ioctl function is unsuccessfully repeated 60
times and then it fails.
Resolution:
Device major number is checked with fstat, if it is
21 (sg device), SCSI command is passed with
SCTL_io_linux_SG_driver function. Sending SCSI command
with SCSI_IOCTL_SEND_COMMAND ioctl to sg is deprecated.
Id = JAGae28035
Automatic cleaning does not work if library does not
have barcode support.
Resolution:
New Data Protector environment variable OB2CLNSLOT is
added. Variable has to be set on Media Agent host in
the .omnirc file and has to contain the cleaning slot
number.
Resolution:
Logon information is passed to brbackup/brarchive.
PHSS_26881:
Id = HSLco30962
DDS4 automatically unloads the tape. OmniBack II tries
to unload but fails since the device already unloaded
tape.
Resolution:
New environment variable OB2NOEJECTCLEANINGTAPE which
has to be set to 1 in omnirc file, was implemented in
order to prevent OmniBack II to unload the cleaning
tape.
Id = HSLco33982
In case that STK 9940 drives are configured as T9840,
query does not work correctly because OB2 expects that
those drives are configured as type 3590.
Resolution:
Configuration for STK 9940 is changed in order to be
recognized as T9840 media type.
Id = HSLco34139
Header verification can not handle a dirty drive
situation.
Resolution:
If OmniBack II detects cleaning tape medium header is
not checked before unloading.
Part of SSPUX350_075.
Id = HSLco34266
If 'InitOnLoosePolicy' is set to 0 and foreign tape
is loaded OmniBack II aborts backup session instead
of issuing a mount request.
When loading a tape medium header check is run. If the
medium is foreign or blank OmniBack II aborts backup
session.
Resolution:
If loaded tape is foreign or blank OmniBack II does not
check medium header when closing device.
Id = HSLco35178
Sometimes it is possible that eject operation fails
after the medium header verification.
Resolution:
Additional medium rewind operation is added before the
offline operation.
Id = HSLco35670
Message is implying that medium verification has been
done although only the medium header sanity check has
been performed.
Resolution:
Message has been changed to:
"Medium header verification completed, 0 errors found."
PHSS_25960:
Id = HSLco30584
Medium header verification is not implemented.
Resolution:
Environment variable OB2DISABLEHEADERCHECK is
introduced.
Medium header is checked by default. Setting the
variable to 1 in /opt/omni/.omnirc file turns the
functionality off.
Part of SSPUX350_061 and SSPUX350_068.
Id = HSLco31293
Query operation hangs when performed on GRAU
libraries with more than 1000 tapes.
Resolution:
Query operation can handle more than 1000 tapes
within GRAU library.
Id = HSLco31403
If append fails during positioning, the tape is not
marked poor.
Resolution:
Error handling is improved.
Part of SSPUX350_064.
Id = HSLco31696
LTO drives are not supported with Omniback ACS
integration.
Resolution:
Omniback ACS integration supports LTO drives.
Part of SSPUX350_067.
Id = JAGad97976
Compaq DLT library is not added to device list.
Resolution:
Compaq DLT device is added to device list.
Please see Special Installation Instructions.
Id = HSLco29436
Media import uses a lot of search operations in
order to achieve better performance. In case of
bad quality of drives or tapes, it sometimes fails
with an I/O error.
Resolution:
New OB2 environment variable is introduced:
OB2NOSEEKIMPORT.
If this variable is set to 1, Media Agent will read
through the complete tape and it will not use any
search operations.
This option reduces the chances of experiencing
I/O errors during media import, but its performance
is 3-4 times slower.
If OB2NOSEEKIMPORT is set and the tape contains
the "OB-crc" field, not only the tape is verified but
also the "OB-crc". Since a copied tape (omnimcopy)
will contain "OB-crc" field as well if the source tape
did contain "OB-crc" fields, importing such a tape
will also be "OB-crc" checked.
Part of SSPUX350_050.
Id = HSLco30326
OmniBackII A.03.50 does not support HP VS80 and
Benchmark VS640 libraries.
Resolution:
OmniBackII A.03.50 supports HP VS80 and Benchmark VS640
libraries on HP-UX, Linux and Sun Solairs systems.
Please see Special Installation Instructions.
PHSS_24427:
Id = HSLco27114, NSMex04434
Cleaning signal is incorrectly intercepted because of
two REQUEST SENSE.
Resolution:
REQUEST SENSE is reduced from two to one.
Id = NSMbb40166
If Media Agent is unable to unload the drive from a
STK library, Utility Media Agent (UMA) improperly
finishes and is restarted for 10 times.
Resolution:
UMA properly finishes its actions in case of problems
with STK Library.
Id = NSMbb40213
In OmniBack II - ACSLS environment it is possible
that a device is temporarily in use. Because of this
OmniBack II is not able to lock the drive and the
session is aborted.
Resolution:
OmniBack II environment variables OB2STKRETRY and
OB2STKSLEEP are used in order to retry the drive
lock operation. Default values for the variables
are 40 retries and 5 seconds.
Part of SSPUX350_034.
Id = NSMex03944
Media Agent runs into a loop and fills the debug.log
with error message if drive is bad.
Resolution:
Loop is removed and exchanged with five
re-tries.
Id = NSMex03967
Incorrect device name is used for barcode scan
operation if a library is connected to SAN.
Resolution:
Correct device name is used for barcode scanning.
Id = NSMex04021
OmniBack II does not check TapeAlert report
correctly, so it is not able to recognize that
drive needs cleaning.
Resolution:
Media Agent is changed in order to check TapeAlert
report correctly.
Id = NSMex04040
If "tape2" driver is used for tape control, "SIOC_IO"
fails with error "Invalid argument(22)".This is always
logged to debug.log file on Media Agent machine.
Resolution:
New OB2 variable is introduced: OB2DEBUGLOGENTRY.
If this variable is set to "0", errors will not be
logged into debug.log file.
Id = NSMex04115
Tape alert flag 32 for the picker is incorrectly
decoded.
Resolution:
New message is added to the message catalog.
Id = NSMex04252
If "-tty" option is used OB II is trying to close not
existing file descriptor.
Resolution:
UMA is improved in order to check if file descriptor is
valid before closing.
Part of SSPUX350_036.
Id = NSMex04390
TapeAnalyser does not work correctly with some new
device types.
Resolution:
TapeAnalyser is improved in order to work correctly
with new device types.

PHSS_22373:
Id = JAGad15060
If any media management operation (scan or init, for
example) is started during a backup to STK Silo
Library, Media Management Agent fails and unlocks the
drive. When the backup is finished, Backup Media Agent
tries to unlock drive and fails as it is already
unlocked by Media Management Agent.
Resolution:
Media Management Agent does not unlock the drive that
it failed to lock.
Id = NSMbb36866
Incorrect conversion of object's backup type from
OmniBack II A.02.55 tape format causes GUI to display
senseless messages in "Backup type" field.
Resolution:

Id = NSMex03391
Backup to DLT8000 drives that are connected to HP-UX
systems class higher than L fails with an error:
"Can not open device, errno 6.".
Resolution:
The problem can be solved by specifying environment
variable OB2DEVSLEEP in /opt/omni/.omnirc file as
follows:
OB2DEVSLEEP=<number of seconds>
where <number of seconds> value is between 5 and 20.
Id = NSMex03613
OmniBack fails to calculate MO medium capacity for
MO devices connected to a HP-UX system with "HPPB" bus.
Resolution:
Capacity calculating improved.

Agent client the connection is flipped to asynchronous
mode which causes restore to hang.
Resolution:
Setting the environment variable OB2ASYNCHCLOSE to 1
assures connection hang not to happen.
Id = NSMex02763
SCSI Library can not unload DLT tape cartridge after
the tape rewind in case previous offline operation
failed.
Resolution:
Media Agent now checks the offline operation exit
status before unloading the medium.
Id = NSMex02816
If a rewind or offline operation fails after an I/O
error, the tape will get stuck in the drive.
Resolution:
With setting OB2REWINDRETRY and OB2REWINDSLEEP
variables in the .omnirc file on the Media Agent host,
the rewind/offline will retry if it fails.

with the -trapType option , under the Japanese locale.
Defect Description:
PHSS_29753:
8606311794: snmpCollect does not get the official
hostnames for collections configured through reporting.
This results in multiple collections on same node-instance
combination, if that node-instance combination is
configured through xnmcollect too.
Resolution:
8606311794: snmpCollect will get official host names for
explictly configured nodes under all circumstances.
8606312494: Failure to check for bad PDU allows bad PDU to
enter the BES under certain circumstances. When the BES is
read by ovdwevent, the bad PDU causes it to misbehave.
Resolution:
8606312494: Change has been made to drop this kind of
invalid PDU under all circumstances.
8606325768: Proper error checking not done.
Resolution:
8606325768: Suitable error checking has been done in
appropriate daemons.
8606325594: On Unix platforms 'ovwrs' has a dependency
on 'libntl', whenever this 'libntl' is not
available, 'ovwrs' does not start.
Resolution:
8606325594: The dependency of 'libntl' for 'ovwrs' has
been removed, which was not required.
8606322563: The Web Alarm Viewer displays a pop-up
message, whenever there is a change in trapd.conf
through 'xnmtrap' .This is the normal behavior.
Resolution:
8606322563: A new option, -i, has been introduced
for 'ovalarmsrv' to ignore any trapd.conf changes. If user
wants 'ovalarmsrv' to ignore the trapd.conf changes,
ovalarmsrv can be started with this -i option, which can
be configured in $OV_LRF/ovalarmsrv.lrf file.
8606312215: The binary search in the code has not
considered a corner case, which puts 'ovalarmsrv' into an
infinite loop.
Resolution:

8606327454: NNM does not recognise HP-UX Itanium systems.
Resolution:
8606327454: Modified NNM to recognise HP-UX Itanium
systems. This patch would not change the symbol for
already discovered Itanium machines, but would work for
any new Itanium Machine with HP-UX discovered. If user
wants to change the symbol of already discovered Itanium
machines, then user need to delete them from topology and
then re-discover them.
8606315319: Absence of the synchronization mechanism
between the xnmtrap and xnmevents processes causes the
problem.
Resolution:
8606315319: Code has been added for xnmtrap and other
processes writing to trapd.conf to wait for completion of
reading processes and then update them with correct
configuration after saving the file.

the ovapuse lock file not getting deleted.
Resolution:
8606311997: Code is modified to take care of this problem.
8606308049: If the CLASSPATH contains a JRE version which
is incompatible with the JRE verision shipped with NNM,
then ovrequestd fails to start.
Resolution:
8606308049: NNM applications classpath is formed by
prepending the JRE version shipped with the system
CLASSPATH during invocation, so that NNM applications use
the shipped JRE.

Resolution:
8606315294: IPMap code has been modified to set isRepeater
attribute properly depending on whether the object in
question is a Repeater or not.
8606300126: IPMap was performing some operations on L2
interfaces that were not necessary if the interfaces in
question were unused, thus adding to synchronization times.
Resolution:
8606300126: IPMap code has been modified to check for
unused interfaces and not perform the unnecessary
operations on them.

windows to be displayed, which is not a user friendly
behavior.
Resolution:
8606296932: When the Network Presenter loses connection
to ovw, it closes all of its open frames and displays a
single error message "Network Presenter lost connection to
OVW. Please restart the Network Presenter.".

there were objects in the database with that attribute
value but which were not present in the cache, ovwdb never
returned these objects to ovw.

ovw, xnmevents or any gui application needs locale
specific resource file to show correct fonts. For Chinese,
Korean or any Asian character display, these locale
specific resource files are missing.
Resolution:
Locale specific resource files have been provided in the
patch. These files will get installed into $OV_NEW_CONF
directory and then later they will be copied under
directory /usr/lib/X11/$LANG/app-defaults/, where the GUI
applications look for it. $LANG refers to locale name in
which GUI applications are running. This patch provides
the resource files for ko_KR.eucKR, zh_CN.hp15CN, and
zh_TW.big5 locales.

which further causes ovactiond to crash.
Resolution:
8606267983: Defective function was modified to return a
proper value for events belonging to IGNORE category.

end points of the connections are not preserved inside the
location container.
Resolution:
8606261353: ipmap's logic of handling deletion of objects
from a map was modified to preserve the connections inside
the location container.

of the community name is assumed to be less than 128 bytes.
Resolution:
8606269552: Encoding the length of the community name in the
SNMP packet header has been modified to accept upto 255
bytes.

which resulted in misleading error messages.
8606264777: The comparison routine was case sensitive.
Resolution:
8606264777: The comparison routine is modified to be case
insensitive.
8606270467: ovbackup.ovpl accepts a timeout value for
ovresume. This value is passed to all the scripts that
execute ovresume. There could be certain scripts nested in
the $OV_CONF/ovbackup directory that may fail to recognise
the timeout value passed as a parameter, leading to the
failure of that script.
Resolution:
8606270467: In the ovbackup.ovpl script, the script
nnm_checkpoint.ovpl has been isolated to receive the
ovresume timeout value, while the other scripts or binaries
placed in the subdirectories of $OV_CONF/ovbackup ( if any )
do not receive the value.
8606270556: Cannot find Release Notes or Manuals for non-C
and non-Japanese locales.
Resolution:
8606270556: Code has been modified to display the Release
Notes and Manuals in C locale on non-availability of the
requested locale.

8606271466: Product version information file has been
updated.
8606267361: The buffer used to copy the entries in the file
was hardcoded to hold upto 150 entries.
Resolution:
8606267361: Allocated the buffer to hold all the entries in
the file.
8606246340: Insufficient buffer allocation for holding the
error message caused netmon to dump core instead of printing
the error message.
Resolution:
8606246340: The buffer was allocated suitably for holding
the error message. Hence netmon would now print the error
message.
PHSS_27643:
Double quotes in the ifAlias value for interfaces were not
handled in the report generation code.
Resolution:
The code has been modified to handle double quotes in the
ifAlias value.
PHSS_27640:
The deletion of a symbol (or a submap) involves removing
the symbol (or submap) information, the map object and the
object in the object database. These three operations do
not happen as one single atomic operation. Invalid symbols
and submaps are left behind if ovw aborts after the
deletion of the map object and the object in the object
database, but before the removal of the symbol (or submap)
information.
Resolution:
The verbose option of ovw -mapcount is enhanced to do a
listing of invalid symbols and submaps. A new option '-c'
is provided with ovw -mapcount to clean such invalid
symbols and submaps.
PHSS_27638:

properly.
Resolution:
Code has been added for handling the bad requests properly.

special and non-printable characters.
2.Code is implemented for the server and the browser to
communicate with the UTF8 codeset.
PHSS_27623:
submap is not removed from the router symbol's submap
list. Selecting an event in xnmevents corresponding to the
same router causes NULL pointer access when previous
submap is dereferenced for the router symbol.
Resolution:
ovw is modified to check for NULL pointer dereferencing
before accessing any submap for the symbol's submap list.
PHSS_27616:
Memory allocated to a particular pointer was not freed
properly.
Resolution:
The allocated memory is now freed properly, at appropriate
position.
PHSS_27614:

========================================================
PHSS_29753:
1.As nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl are
customizable, the patch installation places the new files
into the sub-directories under $OV_NEW_CONF instead of
overwriting the original files in $OV_CONF
sub-directories. If any customizations have been made to
the existing nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl
files in $OV_CONF sub-directories, then the changes will
first need to be merged with new nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and
nnm_restore.ovpl files in appropriate $OV_NEW_CONF
sub-directories. Then replace the existing
nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files in
appropriate $OV_CONF sub-directories with the modified
nnm_checkpoint.ovpl and nnm_restore.ovpl files.
This patch installation places the following new files
in the indicated locations:
A.$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/analytical
/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl.
If a customization exists, merge $OV_CONF/ovbackup
/checkpoint/analytical/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl with this file.
B.$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational
/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl. If a customization exists, merge
$OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational
/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl with this file.
C.$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/restore/analytical
/nnm_restore.ovpl. If a customization exists, merge
$OV_CONF/ovbackup/restore/analytical/nnm_restore.ovpl
with this file.
D.$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/restore/operational
/nnm_restore.ovpl. If a customization exists, merge
$OV_CONF/ovbackup/restore/operational/nnm_restore.ovpl
with this file.
Finally, whether or not merges have been made, copy the
following files as indicated:
$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/analytical
/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl To $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint
/analytical
$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/checkpoint/operational
/nnm_checkpoint.ovpl To $OV_CONF/ovbackup/checkpoint
/operational
$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/restore/analytical
/nnm_restore.ovpl To $OV_CONF/ovbackup/restore
/analytical
$OV_NEW_CONF/OVMIN/conf/ovbackup/restore/operational
/nnm_restore.ovpl To $OV_CONF/ovbackup/restore
/operational
2.This patch deliver changes to the file $OV_CONF/
$LANG/trapd.conf.
As the $OV_CONF/$LANG/trapd.conf file may have been
customized, this patch installs the new copy of trapd.conf
under the $OV_NEW_CONF directory. This ensures that the
active copy of trapd.conf under $OV_CONF directory is not
overwritten.
If the $OV_CONF/$LANG/trapd.conf file was not customized,
the $OV_CONF/$LANG/trapd.conf file can be overwritten with
the trapd.conf file under the $OV_NEW_CONF/OVEVENT-
MIN/conf/$LANG directory.
However any customizations done to the $OV_CONF/
$LANG/trapd.conf file will need to be merged with the
trapd.conf file under the $OV_NEW_CONF/OVEVENT-MIN/conf/
$LANG directory before a new copy can be installed as
$OV_CONF/$LANG/trapd.conf.
3.This patch provides trapd.conf files for the following
locales: ko_KR.eucKR, zh_CN.hp15CN, and zh_TW.big5.
Since trapd.conf is a user modifiable configuration file,
the trapd.conf will not be copied to $OV_CONF/$LANG.
After the patch is installed you should create the
required $LANG directory in $OV_CONF and copy the
corresponding trapd.conf file from $OV_NEW_CONF
/OVEVENT-MIN/conf/$LANG to this newly created directory.
Furthermore, be aware that any customizations previously
made to the current trapd.conf file need to be merged
from the current trapd.conf file into the new
$OV_CONF/$LANG/trapd.conf file as else they will be lost.
4. 8606327454: This patch provides a new copy of
oid_to_sym file, which is user customizable file. Since
oid_to_sym is a user modifiable configuration file, the
oid_to_sym will not be copied to $OV_CONF. After the
patch is installed user should copy the oid_to_sym file
into $OV_CONF from $OV_NEW_CONF/OVNNM-RUN/conf
/oid_to_sym_reg/HPoid_to_sym
Furthermore, be aware that any customizations previously
made to the current oid_to_sym file need to be merged
from the current oid_to_sym file into the new
$OV_CONF/oid_to_sym file as else they will be lost.
