There are a lot of purchasers and "IT professionals" who make ease of use, lack of complexity, and familiarity the primary priorities for purchases. I've seen several organizations make strategic decisions based on "professional" administrators not wanting to learn something new, not wanting to deal with non-GUI software, and in general not wanting to make decisions or understand complex issues. Many let marketing reps make their decisions for them without really understanding the internal workings of the products they're purchasing.

I understand end users not wanting to deal with computer internals. Having implementers and other "IT professionals" make such decisions is reprehensible. Its how we got to "plug-n-play firewalls, security policies, and enterprise servers.

I understand that there is a shortage of qualified technical workers, however, when the industry cuts corners in such critical areas as security to accomodate it, then we're all in trouble.
