And just like the Pentium III chip, it can be modified through code. I
just got over an issue where I had five network devices on a Solaris
machine all with the same MAC address. The OS by default set all
addresses to the first devices address -- but it demonstrates that anyone
can write a program to change these MAC addresses as they see fit.

Not such a good form of identification if a person can just run a program
and change it on a whim.
