SINGAPORE - A 30-year-old Chinese national is believed to have hacked
into online accounts at Singapore's largest bank and transferred money
to his own account, Singapore's Sunday Times newspaper reported
Sunday.

Police are now investigating whether the unidentified man hacked into
the 21 accounts at the Development Bank of Singapore Ltd (DBS) from
here or abroad, according to the report.

It is believed that the Chinese national may have left Singapore by
now.

A police spokeswoman declined to confirm the nationality of the man
but said the police are now on the hunt for him.

The case came to light on June 19 when one of the bank's customers
reported to the police that S$5,000 (about $2,834) had been
transferred out of his bank accounts earlier that day.

Subsequent checks by DBS showed that another 18 similar transfers had
taken place from other accounts on the same day, the report said.

The hacker had fraudulently transferred amounts ranging from S$200 to
S$4,999 to his own account, the police said. (Kyodo News)
