Ohio University has retained the services of one of the world's top
computer-security firms to help it reorganize its information technology
services for better data security.
President Roderick McDavis reported at a regularly scheduled press
conference Wednesday that OU expects to pay in the neighborhood of
$170,000 to the Gartner Group of Stamford, Mass., for its services.
OU has announced that it will undertake a major restructuring in its IT
area, after a series of computer security breaches that exposed personal
information for thousands of students, alums, donors and subcontractors to
possible theft.
McDavis also reported that two top IT officials who were suspended on the
advice of a consultant who investigated the hacking incidents had a
hearing last week.
Communication Network Services Director Tom Reid and Unix Systems Manager
Todd Acheson are fighting efforts by OU to terminate them for their
alleged responsibility in allowing the security breaches to occur.
