    Greetings all,

Although not all of the products mentioned below position themselves to
compete directly with Database Scanner, Axent ESM for Oracle and Pentasafe
(formerly Braintree) have been on the radar for a while. Database Scanner
consisently distinguishes itself from the competition with the only
database-specific penetration testing functionality on the market, coupled
with robust auditing and password strength testing and cracking, and
pre-defined and customizable security policies. On top of this, it's a snap
to use (something that cannot be said for other products) and incorporates a
wealth of database and security expertise so that the user doesn't have to
be a DBA or a security expert. In addition, integration with Internet
Scanner allows users to achieve an even higher degree of automation and ease
of use, as well as add further depth to their assessments.

Database Scanner is not just a VA tool that's had a couple of 'blank SA
password' checks added - DBS was built specifically for database
vulnerability assessment, and ISS works with the supported vendors
(Microsoft, Oracle, and Sybase) to ensure the highest degree of database
    integration and testing.

Since I'd prefer not to get flamed for appearing to use issforum to
criticize other products, email me directly if you'd like to discuss
comparisons of Database Scanner and the competition in greater detail.

    Regards,

    Patrick

    Mark

I have details on the following database scanners on my website, but sadly
    haven't done a proper comparison

    Braintree Database
    Cerberus' Internet Scanner
    Cyrano
    CyberCop Scanner
    ISS Database Scanner
    ESM for Oracle
    E-Trust Policy Compliance
    SQLdict

Their abilities and coverage vary considerably
