You can configure auto-shrink in MSSQL 7.0. You can even set a schedule to
shrink your ISSED database.
To configure auto-shrink:
1) Right click on your issed database. Go to Properties
2) Go to the Option tab where you will see the auto-shrink check box.
3) Check the auto shrink box
To schedule a shrink process:
1) Right click on issed database.
2) Go to All Tasks
3) Select Shrink Database
4) You can set the database shrink schedule in the shrink database window.
Hope this helps.

Service
The database itself will not shrink once SQL has allocated the drive space
it will continue to use it. Now when you remove items SQL will then reuse
that space. This means if you have a 2gig database and remove 1gig of data
then the database will not grow again until you use that 1 gig. There are
tools within SQL to shrink the database but if you have the drive space I
don't recommend this as the database will just grow back up.

Hello all... Iīm running Database Maintenance Service to purge some records
and itīs spending a lot o time to do this. After it finished the job, i
looked for the space used by the database (SQL Server 7.0) and itīs didnīt
shrink.
What iīm doing wrong? This tool works fine? What i have to do to eliminate
old records?
Thanks,
Marcelo Martinho
