Hi Luke,
Hmmm. I begin to think that you are talking about an other 366 than I am...
For me the XL366 is just the same box with 366 MHz CPU. I say that because
there is NO AlphaBIOS 5.70 for my 266, AFAIK. ARC 4.59 is the last 'BIOS' I
ever found for it. Maybe you used the wrong MILO? Is your machine also know
as Avanti? Or is there an other pet name for yours?

PS We could go offline to compare the hardware a bit more.

Subject: RE: RH 7.1 on XL366 ?
Thanks Egbert - alas I'm a 366, not a 266 and it seems to matter!
I have an XL366 with AlphaBIOS 5.70
I had RH 6.2 (linload.exe and milo on a 10Mb C:) booting from the ARC
menu (dual with NT4)
This old milo shows
Built against Linux version 2.0.30 (jestabro
linux03.amt.tay1.dec.com)
(gcc version 2.7.2.1)
#1 Tue Nov 11 15:03:06 EST 1997
Now with 7.1, this old milo doesn't work.
I just tried the milo-xl 2.2.18 from ~stepan and that does NOT work.
Does anybody have an XL-366 working with RH7.1 and milo? Should I be
using something other than milo-xl ??
Luke

Hi Luke,
I have a XL266 with ARC 4.59. I got the binary from ~stefan and dumped
it on a dos formatted floppy together with linload.exe (from any
release). This boots fine into MILO. Then I use the 'boot' command but
without the '-t iso9660'. Later I copied milo to the fat partition on
one of my harddisks and now I boot from there. Much faster. I use the
OPTIONS string in ARC to give the boot string to MILO, so effectively I
have an autobooting system all the way into RH 7.1.
I do not have the MILO binary available here. I suggest that you
download it again yourself.
Good luck this time
Egbert Jan

You're using an XL366 no problem? Zip up your milo and send it to me? I
tried milo-xl from ~stepan and it hangs when switching palcode...

That was in this list some time ago:
...
I have tried the MILO binaries from www.suse.de/~stepan of 2.2.17.and
2.2.18 but both seem to hang when switching to PALCode. I haven't
managed to get MILO compiled. ... With this remark that they work fine
for me. I use the binary marked milo-xl but it identifies itsrelf as
Avanti. Seems no problem.

Could someone give me a pointer to a binary of MILO that will work for
RH7.1 on my XL366?
Otherwise I'm stuck on 6.2...
Luke.
