I can tell you :)
I run Houdini, Renderman, Rayz and others on AlphaLinux(about 20 boxes
now), and thanks to the hard work of many they even run as workstations
(some atleast). They will be retired to rendering during the year as none of
the software is updated.
Personaly I prefere em as workstations over Intels/AMDs as they are a lot
more responsive/stable under load(same was true on NT by the way).
About performance they are still competitive although the price benefit for
DCC has gone over to AMD(TCO that include Hardware and Software
on a single processor basis), but thats a moot point now that everyone has
abandoned the platform(Alpha that is).
In general I think Compaq managed to totaly alienate anyone but morons
that had any dealings with em over any period of time in that market
segment, just a shame that some realy good people had to take the hit for
the morons at the top.
