One more thing, I have a null modem cable, and a laptop with linux on
it, how do I connect through the serial port?

Do I need both the fwupdate.exe and the srm.rom file on the floppy for
the failsafe boot? Both won't fit on the disk.

I'm going to try and connect with a serial port, because from Michel's
post earlier, he said the screen won't be blue if the SRM is set to
ostype = nt. Now I just have to find a null modem cable. Finding one
will probably be harder than getting my alpha to work :)

if you're not getting a blue screen w/ a flashing cursor, then you need
to
follow the fail safe boot.
If it is blue, wait a while and hit CNTRL-Z a couple of times and / or
enter
that should wake the thing up to realize it's on a normal console
then at the '>>' prompt type 'set console graphics' and you shouldn't
have
a problem again.
