    Hello !
Does anyone know a good page/resource for interpreting i.e. SPECf2000
    numbers ?

    Background:
We intend to add a few machines. Either one or two 600-800 Mhz Alphas
(we already have several alphas) or "high end" Xeon (2 GHz). Looking
at SPEC values they seem (much) faster. Since cost/performance is nice
but we need machine(s) which do a single run fast we would like to
compare this machines fairly. I know the best way to compare them is
to run a sample programm on both, unfortunately I don't know of an
option simmilar to Compaqs testdrive for Xeons. Having a lengthy
discussion on how the values on the Xeon were derived I thought I'd
    asked here for any pointers.

    Thanks for any help

                   Helge

P.S. Especially if the values are at least vaguly realistic when
obtained under Linux with proper job scheduling.
