Well, there are a couple other rpms I added on the first system that
I did not add to the second. They were the results of my scrambling
for rpms when I was trying to install xemacs (Wnn and Canna libraries
and development packages). I do not believe they would have caused the
kernel source rpm to not install. But I will add them to the second
system to see if it makes any difference.

When I do rpm -i kernel... it sits there for a few seconds and then
comes back with no messages at all. I'll try again with verbose mode.

I'll try this as well. I can't get to the machine right now (locked
room, no network connections...)
