In my experience the latest xine from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ still has an issue with esd sound. This patch is a workaround

I've good experience with xine (http://xine.sourceforge.net). Compiled
out of the box and works great.
But then this is a 21264 box, thus not the slowest one. :)
