I am not sure what changed, and maybe this is accidental, but with
2.4.18-27.7.x on x86 and its counterpart on Alpha my Tulip cards started
to work with a 'tulip' driver as opposed to 'de4x5'. My "real DEC" NICs
could not pass a single packet using 'tulip' from very early in 2.4
series. Fortunately 'de4x5' was fine and really better than
its counterpart from 2.2 kernels.

Could you expand? Recently I have seen complaints from somebody
with NCR810a controller and 'sym53c8xx_2' driver but otherwise
this seems to have quite good record. I am using this driver myself
for a very long time.
