With the latest updates to RH7.2-Alpha sporting a time stamp from
23rd of May 2003 (thanks, George) it is a bit hard to claim with
a straight face that this particular distribution is so neglected.

Yes, one has to admit that there are elements of a "stealth
marketting" in all of that. :-)

p.s. It should be also mentioned that there is a substantial amount
of at least compiling, and fairly recent, binaries for Alpha in
"rawhide" from Red Hat. It should be a very good starting point
for those who crave for a cutting edge.
