Kernel build problem 2.4.18?

To the list:

Jay Estabrook pointed me to the RH 7.2 srpm upgrades at the new (?) ftp site, so I decided to try them out.

For drill I did AbiWord, then took a shot at the 2.4.18 kernel.

The packages were in bzip format and i don't have that one so i used tar with the -j option. Seemed to work.

The readme that came with it, as well as the how-to in the 7.2 documentation, seem more tailored to x86 hardware than alpha. Anyway, i got
through the config and the make dep, make clean and make modules. However i can't make the kernel image. I get back a msg

"no rule for make bzimage"

I looked in the makefile for the old kernel and didn't find a rule for making this image either
but there the image is, in my /boot directory. I checked it and it seems to be a gz image, not a bz anyway. What am i missing?

Also, i found a reference to a -fast option with make that supposedly tunes code for speed. When I try it i get an error msg.

Well, any ideqas of what to do next?

thanks

jn

I couldn't afford a Maserati, so I got a DEC Alpha instead
