Have you previously been able to update rpm packages via linuxconf?
I suspect, but can't definitively prove, that this is a linuxconf problem,
in that it's likely linuxconf is using an older api (3.x based, instead
of the current 4.0 version). I'm able to reproduce the problem on a
stock Immunix 7.0 machine; furthermore, if I tell linuxconf to ignore
the errors and continue installing, the installation fails with what
looks like a corrupted package name. However, upgrading the package
via the rpm command line utility works just fine.
Thus, my suggested workaround would be to use rpm directly ('rpm -Fvh
package.rpm' or 'rpm -Uvh package.rpm').
Sorry I can't give you a better answer than that.
