Immunix 7 came out somewhat after Red Hat 7.0, and thus did not share
some of its worst ".0" problems:

        * Immunix used glibc 2.2, rather than the pre-release 2.1.9-something
        * Immunix used gcc 2.92, rather than the pre-alpha quality gcc 2.95

We hope to come out with Immunix 7.2 some time in the spring. Emphasis
on "hope" ;-) In addition to updates, it will have some attractive new
Immunix features that are not presently available. Some of those
features are part of the delay.

StackGuard and FormatGuard are both fully GPL, and provided on the
    Immunix distro. Build and enjoy.

    No, there are problems:

        * It is not trivial to forward-port StackGuard to newer GCC's. We
are working on a robust forward port to GCC 3.0.* but it is not
          ready yet.
        * Newer glibc requires compilers newer than GCC 2.92, and thus
cannot be compiled with StackGuard. Until we have StackGuard 3.0,
we're backporting patches rather than ship a non-StackGuard glibc.

    >4) Why egcs ? Why not GCC in stable version 2.95.3 ?
    >
It's just a package name. What we ship is really gcc 2.29. Also, gcc
2.95.anything is not considered stable by the GCC developers; that is
Red Hat's idea. We are going to jump from gcc 2.92 to gcc 3.0.*.

    Thanks,
