That's why I usually compile from SRPMs, sometimes with an updated
source tarball. Usually, you only need minor editing of the specfile and
patches and you can get any option you want enabled etc. You also get
the advantages of a package system, i.e. easy maintenance and easy to
deploy on multiple system.
