I have two servers with software raid & immunix, works fine. Hardware raid
probably would have worked too if there was a driver. However if you read
more on the issue - promise ide raid controllers do not have linux driver,
not in redhat, not in immunix, not anywhere else. In fact there is only
one vendor for IDE RAID cards has produced linux drivers - 3WARE.

So in reality promise ide controller for linux would just be an additional
ide card with 2 or 4 additional ide channels and you can run linux software
raid on those devices (if you read the manual for some ide raid cards,
that is what they say you're supposed to do in fact) and I believe that
way you can in fact make 4x20 into one partition, at least I would expect
    it to work.
