compile problems- related to stackguard?

I've gotten the following error when trying to compile two separate applications
and the message leaves me wondering if it is related to Stackguard or
Formatguard. Any thoughts? One of the packages I'm running into this
with is FFTW: www.fftw.org Fastest Fourier Transform in the West
Here is the error:
fftw-wisdom.c:116:1: directives may not be used inside a macro argument
fftw-wisdom.c:116:1: unterminated argument list invoking macro "fprintf"

The mention of macros and printf is part of what made me wonder.

thanks,
toby
