Going multibyte (there are several choices for encodings, some are even
ASCII based and backward compatible) is the only reasonable way of
supporting i18n for DNS. Charset tagging is just too messy.
There are some Internet Drafts tagged -idn- out there, the most
important one is the one where requirements are stated.
I'm sure comments of security people would be welcome on the IDN mailing
list, the process is still in a very early phase.
