All kinds :> Any common distro that is out there expects it to be used in a
multi-user environment, and is usually geared towards more services, not less.
Also, they want to make the installation as easy as possible for ALL the
services, and sometimes enable things that you do not need by default.
Having said that, we use Salckware exclusively for our servers, as it is the
easiest to button up. We take app. 2 hours to tighten the box up after a
typical install, and we know what to look for. Other distros enable even
more services by default.
I suggest that if you only want to use it as a router tho, you consider one
of the firewall router OS's (Blatent Self Promotion->) Like our VPN Firewall
on a floppy, but there are other projects similar in scope like the LRP
(Linux Router Project) These by default are designed with security in mind.
In our case, there are NO multi-user processes running, as the only way to
make a box totally secure is to require physical access to the box.
