    Hi folks,

Virtually every security article I've read says if you're not using nfs
or smb, then turn portmap off.

The only exception I've seen is here:
    http://www.mandrakeuser.org/admin/adaemon2.html

    Where it states:
"Needed for Remote Procedure Calls. Leave it enabled if you use GNOME or
     need RPC otherwise. Usually enabled."

I don't run the gnome environment, but do use lots of gnome apps out of
Enlightenment. Do I really need portmap running? If so, can someone
    elaborate a bit?

    Thanks
    b5dave.
