Just as an FYI, I have had a few intermitant problems
with a couple systems, and the only thing I can track it
back to is this process (the kmod cron job). I have
disabled it on all of my systems, and they have run
without a problem ever since.
On two systems, it apparently did something to corrupt
the network card's module, although lsmod still showed it
as loaded. No traffic what-so-ever could pass through.
Being sort of an uptime guy (I really don't belive in
rebooting a Linux box, unless you're changing a kernel,
there's no need), I ended up taking the system down to
runlevel 1, downing the interface, removing the module,
modprobe'ing it back in, and then bringing the interface
back up. The only thing in the logs that happened at the
same moment I lost connectivity was that kmod cron job.
Like I said, this is something that has happened a couple
of times. I have 2 Mdk7.2 systems with > 100 days of
uptime and another that's rebooted somewhat frequently.
It's happened to at least two of them, but the instances
were few and far between, and since it's been disabled,
hasn't happened at all.
