Real Simple:
Yahoo Mail.

If you are going to use a web-based free email service, choose one which is
NOT owned by Bill. They don't like to play nice with the other children.
Yahoo has SMTP and POP3 access as well as forwarding (not selective). I
use this and pull mail using fetchmail to the server. Then I use IMAP to

They (Hotmail) only offer fetching mails thru the web interface or with
Outlooks web mail retrieval stuff.

And you surely cannot "pop3 into sendmail" (whatever that means),
because sendmail is a SMTP server. Honestly: I don't understand the 2nd
sentence.
