Its also as well to keep in mind that not everyone can use ssh. I have
seen companies that control telnet use through their firewall via
gateway, but refuse to let ssh through. Will not change due to
"policy". I also get to use a number of machines and not everone has
ssh installed, and it is not always practical to walk up to someones
machine and just install ssh!, particularly if its setup to not allow
install by user (windoze that was!) At least telnet seems to be
universal. I think that in many cases people get on the ssh wagon and
forget that there are still reasons to use telnet (or are forced to use)
and that whilst ssh is "big" in the techy area of linux and maybe unix
in general, elsewhere it is not.

i.e., of course advise someone that there are reasons to use ssh, but
dont be too pedantic about it - your preferences may not be everyone
elses, and thats what it comes down to. I have also never figured out
why all the evangelistic hooha over telnet when ftp and I think pop3 and
imap essentially do the same thing - though this is starting to change.

For those of you using pop3 or imap to collect your mail from a remote
server, fire up ethereal and have the delight of watching your password
go out in plain text every few minutes or so, as well as personal email
    coming back in plain ...

    How paranoid are you ...
