+ This may help, if the numbers are accurate. But I somehow doubt they
+ will. This will just show us how many people use a particular version
+ on the desktop or workstation... I don't think it will indicate how

Well, MandrakeOnline is basically the kind of "pay for the updates" type
of service, and I don't think it's nessesarly limited to
desktop/workstations. For all I care, we could simply ask the members of
MandrakeClub/MandrakeCorporate club to tell us which version of ML they
use - as long as they are our customers, they have a right to demand
    things.

Anyway, I don't see why our current customers would have to wait for
updates because someone wants to use an old distribution, so the
folks who want to have old distro supported will IMO eventually have to
pay for the support. The situation becomes even more interesting if one
considers that it's exactly the guys who have money (companies) that use
    old distros. ;-)

The fact that we have products which have a longer life cycle
(SNF, Corporate server)), and which are similar enough to make support of
some old versions a no-brainer is nice, but doesn't really change things
in a long term: SOMEONE has to pay for the support, and that someone
should IMO be "the folks who use old distro and thus need these updates".
