There just something about hardening the os and writing the script yourself
that makes you feel like you know something about security even if you leave
holes a product like shorewall will cover. (You learn the hard way if you
dont do it right the first time trust me) Plus after you look at all the
scripts out there if you actually research what this and that is etc
etc....... etc etc (I know it a big undertaking, lots to learn) you might be
the next one to wright a shorewall type product or help develop a honeypot,
if we all stay dependant on the few when they die in Al Queda attacks well
all be screwed
Please note that I am not bashing shorewall at all, in fact I am going to
check it out myself and see what I can learn from it
